Nathaniel's POV
The whip cracked against my back, and I clenched my teeth to keep from making a sound. My father, Alpha of one of the strongest packs in the region, stood before me, fury radiating from him. This wasn’t the first time I’d been on the receiving end of his anger, but it didn’t make it any easier.
“How dare you make such a decision without consulting me?” he barked, his voice echoing in his study. I didn't speak until he was done venting his anger
When the punishment was done, he tossed the whip aside and crossed his arms.
“Stand up and explain yourself.”
I pushed myself to my feet, my back throbbing with each movement. My father’s eyes bored into mine, demanding an answer.
“I did it because it was the best decision for the pack,” I began, keeping my voice steady. “Father, you’ve been planning to take control of other packs gradually. But with every new territory we gain, management becomes harder. There have already been signs that our resources are stretched too thin. We might not be able to manage a pack too large for long.”
My father frowned but didn’t interrupt.
“You’ve made it clear that expansion isn’t a priority right now,” I continued. “The reason you wanted me to mate the Moonfury pack Alpha’s daughter was to unite both packs and be able to defend against any attack from Duncan’s pack,.”
My father’s expression darkened, but I pressed on.
“The Moonfury pack is small, sandwiched between our pack and Duncan’s. If they were attacked, it would almost certainly come from Duncan. And when that happened, we’d have no choice but to help them, marriage alliance or not. That’s why I proposed the mutual help contract. It’s a formal agreement that binds both packs to aid each other in times of war.”
I paused, letting my words sink in. My father’s jaw tightened, but he still didn’t speak.
“As for announcing Phoebe Peterson as my mate,” I said carefully, “that decision was about more than just her. At first, I planned to reject her. But then I realized we could use her to unite the pack. Many of our members joined after surviving pack wars. They’ve always felt like outsiders, treated unfairly by those who’ve been here longer. By accepting Phoebe as my mate, I showed them that we value everyone—no matter their background.”
I tried to make my father think Phoebe was just a pawn being used.
I glanced at my father, waiting to see his reaction. He was unreadable.
“This was the right move for the pack,” I said firmly.
“Even if it means sacrificing my own happiness, I’m willing to do it.”
For a long moment, my father just stared at me. The silence was heavy, and I felt the weight of his judgment pressing down on me. Finally, he stood and walked toward me.
“I’ve always known you were my most capable son,” he said. His voice was quieter now, almost thoughtful. “That was a good decision.”
He placed a hand on my shoulder, a rare gesture of approval. “If you ever meet a she-wolf you truly love, let me know. I’ll handle it. Peterson's daughter won’t dare object. But you made this choice without telling me first, and for that, you deserved the whip. Now, go.”
I nodded, and left the study.
Outside, one of my men was waiting for me. “How did it go?” he asked
“I’m fine,” I said. The pain in my back was sharp, but the injuries will heal soon.
He hesitated, then asked, “What about Phoebe? Do we need to increase security around her?”
I thought for a moment before answering. “Yes. With everything that’s happened, someone might try to target her. Just make sure she is safe, send men to go and see to her safety.”
Nathaniel's POV Alexander and I decided to find Elizabeth. It's been three days since he arrived back and I haven't been more than excited about his presence. At least, I have someone who I could still call a brother. I felt pity for him and Aliya, the woman he met in the woods. He encountered a terrible life in the woods but I was glad he made it out alive.According to him, it was the moon goddess who was punishing him for all the things he did to me in the past and now, he has realized his mistakes. Given a second chance, he would make up for the times he had hurt me. I told him to forget about the past and later apologize for the way I had treated him in the past suddenly after I was announced the Alpha of our pack. What matters now is how to find Elizabeth. No one seems to have seen her anywhere around.Katarina, who was alleged to have been seen with Elizabeth, has not been found either. Ned and his men searched everywhere for her and even went to her maternal home too.“A
Nathaniel's POV After Duncan was laid to rest that day, we had to spend a little time with the cabinets before retiring to our pack. It was just a memorable day and I wished Duncan's soul would continue to rest in peace. Phoebe sat by my side all throughout the burial. I know it wasn't easy for her and needed to stay by her side although she didn't grieve much like the last time. Some rituals were made on Duncan's grave in front of the large compound where they had buried him. “Rest well, great warrior” I muttered and sighed. Hours later after the burial was concluded and all rituals done, I had to inform Beta Francisco that we have an urgent issue to attend to In my pack. He was worried and asked if it was an emergency and further asked if i needed this help.“ Oh, thanks for your help. But it's nothing to worry about” I replied to him. He tapped my shoulders and then said, “ Remember the peace feast in the next new moon. We need to work effectively towards it” He said and I
Nathaniel's POV The day dawned with the feeling of peace In our minds.By now, our pack would have been in a serious battle with Duncan’s pack. It would have been more chaotic than the other times we had witnessed war in the last full moon.I saw how prepared and equipped Duncan's pack members were. They were all ready to destroy us.Different dangerous weapons were purchased by them from other foreign packs to aid their mission. Our pack would have been wiped out in a single night. Phoebe. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have fixed our mating ceremony, where she should be crowned as the Luna of my pack. We just had to postpone every activity till Duncan was laid to rest completely. This was just to honor him. After his burial which Is today, a feast of peace shall be held in my pack. We shall host Duncan's pack and ensure that everyone is in harmony with each other. To make this more remarkable, the peace ceremony has been fixed in the next coming month at
Alexander's POV Screaming out in pain, I bent down, searching for Aliya in the place the tree had fallen. This was the worst nightmare that has befallen me. There were no traces of Aliya anywhere. I tried calling her name and running around the tree ,groping it around but couldn't find Aliya. Thunder lights flickered again and suddenly, the whole place brightened for a few seconds. Briskly and before the lights quenched, I was able to sight Aliya's legs. Before the lights went off, I had already located the spot where Aliya lay. I quickly held her legs and pulled her from the branches which covered her entire body.“ Dear goddess. Why?” I cried as I figured that the tree had fallen directly on Aliya's head. With tears in my eyes as I continued dragging Aliya's legs, I suddenly heard some screams from nowhere. I was not sure if she was the one who screamed. She was buried by the tree. I was finding it hard to drag her out. How could she suddenly scream? Thanks to the thunder
Alexander’s POV Dark clouds settled, casting a shadow on everything in the woods. Aliya and I had gone in search of what to eat and water to drink but found none. I have been pretty thirsty since we left the previous woods where we had settled. “ Here, I found something for you” Aliya handed me some wild berries with a smile on her face but I rejected them. “ You need them more than I do” I walked past her, looking gloomy. “ Alex. C’mon” She ran towards and suddenly blocked me from moving further. I exhaled. “ It's not time to talk, Aliya. We should just find somewhere to pass the night and continue wandering tomorrow” My frustration grew inside me. Aliya has been used to roaming around and never understood how frustrated I was.“I understand how you feel. We're two different people from different world” She answered with a sorry face.” I don't care who you are. You are leaving with me once I find the way out” I said with a heavy breath and continued walking away. Aliya walk
Alexander’s POV Rustling sounds of lizards on the dried leaves and the chirping sounds of birds caused me to open my eyes that morning. Today marks the ninth day I have been living and wandering in a lost world with Aliya, the woman who stood by my side to ensure I didn't die when I was terribly pierced from the last battle I had engaged in.It was another day, and I wasn't expecting anything better except for the fact that I would have to stare at Aliya’s beautiful eyes when she woke up, then go in search of fruit and water to refresh ourselves. An annoying insect crept to my back and bit my back slightly. I jerked at once, searched for the insect and flung it off my body while nursing the pain. Aliya was still fast asleep. She rested her head on me and I had covered her with my shirt to protect her from the ravishing cold. It was extremely cold in the place we were. Every day, after spending a little time together, we would begin walking in no direction just to find our way
