Nathaniel's POV

The whip cracked against my back, and I clenched my teeth to keep from making a sound. My father, Alpha of one of the strongest packs in the region, stood before me, fury radiating from him. This wasn’t the first time I’d been on the receiving end of his anger, but it didn’t make it any easier.

“How dare you make such a decision without consulting me?” he barked, his voice echoing in his study. I didn't speak until he was done venting his anger

When the punishment was done, he tossed the whip aside and crossed his arms.

“Stand up and explain yourself.”

I pushed myself to my feet, my back throbbing with each movement. My father’s eyes bored into mine, demanding an answer.

“I did it because it was the best decision for the pack,” I began, keeping my voice steady. “Father, you’ve been planning to take control of other packs gradually. But with every new territory we gain, management becomes harder. There have already been signs that our resources are stretched too thin. We might not be able to manage a pack too large for long.”

My father frowned but didn’t interrupt.

“You’ve made it clear that expansion isn’t a priority right now,” I continued. “The reason you wanted me to mate the Moonfury pack Alpha’s daughter was to unite both packs and be able to defend against any attack from Duncan’s pack,.”

My father’s expression darkened, but I pressed on.

“The Moonfury pack is small, sandwiched between our pack and Duncan’s. If they were attacked, it would almost certainly come from Duncan. And when that happened, we’d have no choice but to help them, marriage alliance or not. That’s why I proposed the mutual help contract. It’s a formal agreement that binds both packs to aid each other in times of war.”

I paused, letting my words sink in. My father’s jaw tightened, but he still didn’t speak.

“As for announcing Phoebe Peterson as my mate,” I said carefully, “that decision was about more than just her. At first, I planned to reject her. But then I realized we could use her to unite the pack. Many of our members joined after surviving pack wars. They’ve always felt like outsiders, treated unfairly by those who’ve been here longer. By accepting Phoebe as my mate, I showed them that we value everyone—no matter their background.”

I tried to make my father think Phoebe was just a pawn being used.

I glanced at my father, waiting to see his reaction. He was unreadable.

“This was the right move for the pack,” I said firmly.

“Even if it means sacrificing my own happiness, I’m willing to do it.”

For a long moment, my father just stared at me. The silence was heavy, and I felt the weight of his judgment pressing down on me. Finally, he stood and walked toward me.

“I’ve always known you were my most capable son,” he said. His voice was quieter now, almost thoughtful. “That was a good decision.”

He placed a hand on my shoulder, a rare gesture of approval. “If you ever meet a she-wolf you truly love, let me know. I’ll handle it. Peterson's daughter won’t dare object. But you made this choice without telling me first, and for that, you deserved the whip. Now, go.”

I nodded, and left the study.

Outside, one of my men was waiting for me. “How did it go?” he asked

“I’m fine,” I said. The pain in my back was sharp, but the injuries will heal soon.

He hesitated, then asked, “What about Phoebe? Do we need to increase security around her?”

I thought for a moment before answering. “Yes. With everything that’s happened, someone might try to target her. Just make sure she is safe, send men to go and see to her safety.”

Nathaniel's POVI walked into the pack house, Phoebe was sitting on the couch, staring out the window. Her hair caught the light, and she looked peaceful. I hadn’t expected her to be here or to have her wait here for me, but seeing her there made me stop for a moment."Phoebe... how're you doing?” I asked, stepping closer. "Looks like I’m okay,” she said with a shrug. Before I could respond, she cut me off, her words sharp and to the point. “What is this all about, Nathaniel?” Her tone wasn’t just questioning—it was desperate, demanding.I stopped in my tracks, raising one eyebrow in question and she rolled her eyes. I knew she meant the mating ceremony. I didn’t want to talk about it. Admitting I had planned to mate with someone else would only make things worse. So I kept my face calm and walked closer to her. “What do you mean?” I asked, She scoffed, “Don’t play dumb. The mating ceremony. You didn’t plan this, did you? Or were you just waiting for the perfect moment to humilia

Phoebe's POVI woke up feeling like my head was spinning. For a few seconds, I didn’t know where I was. The ceiling above me was unfamiliar, and the bed felt different. Panic crept in as I tried to sit up, but my body felt heavy. Where was I?I closed my eyes and tried to think. Slowly, pieces of the previous day came back to me. Nathaniel. His face. His lips on mine. His arms held me as he guided me… somewhere. Before I could figure it out, there was a knock on the door. I froze, unsure of what to say. A moment later, a maid stepped in, carrying a tray.“Good morning, Miss Phoebe,” she said politely, placing the tray on a small table beside the bed.I rubbed my eyes and pushed myself up. “Why am I here?” I asked, my voice cracking. The maid hesitated, her hands fiddling with the edge of her apron. “You were at the dinner table with the alpha's family last night, Miss,” she said carefully. “Lord Nathaniel brought you here so you could rest.”“You were….um, you had a little too much

Phoebe's POVNathaniel left with his father and two brothers early in the morning. I had watched him mount his horse, his face set in a serious expression. The treaty with the Moonfury pack was important, and the Alpha wanted all his sons to be involved in the negotiations.Nathaniel was leaving me with people who didn't even like me. I took a deep breath.“I’ll be back by evening,” Nathaniel had whispered as he came to stand next to me. .I nodded. “Good luck. I hope the peace treaty lasts.”Before he could leave, Elizabeth stepped forward, arms crossed. “What about our training today in the fields, Nathaniel? You promised to help me today.” He sighed. “Elizabeth, I’ll help you tomorrow. Today is important. We have to leave with father in a matter of minutes.”“You always say that,” she snapped. “But you never follow through. Fine, let Phoebe help me instead.”Nathaniel’s brows furrowed. “No, I—”“It’s settled,” the Alpha interrupted, his deep voice cutting through the conversatio

Nathaniel's POVI returned to the pack house after the meeting at Moonfury pack, and I hoped Elizabeth hadn't given Phoebe a hard time. The warriors guarding the house were tense, whispering among themselves. One of them approached me, his expression grim.“Nathaniel,” he said, his voice low, “there was an attack.”My heart sank. “What happened?”“Rogues,” he said. “They ambushed the group at the training grounds. Elizabeth and Phoebe are missing. The others with them seemed to have escaped together and got back here.”I didn’t wait to hear more. How could the ones I'd left to take care of Phoebe and Elizabeth come back unhurt when the people I'd charged them to protect were missing. Without a word, I shifted into my wolf form and raced toward the training grounds. My brother followed, and soon, other warriors joined us. We raced for the training grounds and for the first time, I caught myself wondering how in the world the training grounds happened to be so far away from the royal

Phoebe's POV I woke up in an unfamiliar bed. The blankets were heavy, wrapping me in warmth, but the scent around me was unmistakable—Nathaniel.Blinking, I sat up slowly. My body ached, and my head felt heavy. Why was I here? The last thing I remembered was the river, the cold water pulling me down, and Nathaniel’s arms around me.The door opened, and he walked in. His shirt was slightly wrinkled, his hair a bit messy, as if he hadn’t slept much.“You’re awake,” he said, stepping closer.I frowned. “Why am I in your room?”“You passed out,” he answered. “I brought you here.”I pushed the blanket off and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My head throbbed badly and I wanted to get back into the warm bed and sleep some more, but I heard myself saying, “I’m fine now. I should go.”His hand was on my shoulder before I could stand. “You’re not going anywhere.”I looked up at him. His expression was unreadable, but there was no mistaking the firmness in his voice.“Nathaniel, I—”“N

Phoebe's POVThe next day, breakfast was quieter than usual. The tension in the dining hall was thick, pressing against me from every side. I sat beside Nathaniel, my back straight, forcing myself to ignore the way Elizabeth’s sharp gaze lingered on me. Across from us, Alexander toyed with the silverware, his expression unreadable. The clinking of plates and soft murmurs of conversation filled the space, but I knew something was coming. It always did with them.Elizabeth, dressed in an elegant dark-blue dress, picked up her teacup and took a slow sip. “It must be quite the adjustment for you, Phoebe,” she mused, setting the cup down with a delicate clink. “Going from… wherever you came from to sitting here among us.”I didn’t reply.Alexander smirked. “It makes you wonder what kind of life she led before this,” he added. “There’s no record of her, is there?”Elizabeth sighed, shaking her head. “Probably spent her days learning how to serve instead of how to lead.” Her lips curled into

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 11

Nathaniel's POV My father’s voice left no room for argument. "The mating ceremony must happen soon."This was the kind of Alpha I had always known my father to be. He always had the final say on every issue that was vital to our lives and the development of the pack. He didn't give room for questions. It was on very few occasions that he gave me a chance to tell him what I felt of a particular issue and give my take on it. Most of the time, it turned out that I had a smart idea. But this time, he wasn't about to let me give him one of those smart opinions which will alter his own decision.I sat across from him in his office, my arms resting on the chair’s armrests. He spoke with the authority he had over us. He gave no room for questions. Phoebe stood beside me, silent but tense. I could feel the frustration radiating from her, though she kept her face carefully blank. Once again, I knew the responsibility to speak for both of us was resting solely on my shoulders and that meant I

Nathaniel's POVThe training grounds were packed with wolves from every corner of the pack. The elders stood in a semi-circle, their faces unreadable as they waited for Phoebe to step forward. The air was thick with anticipation, whispers moving through the crowd like a wave.Phoebe stood tall, her expression calm. If she was nervous, she didn’t show it.I crossed my arms, standing beside my father as the first elder spoke.“We will test Phoebe’s strength, intelligence, and leadership,” Elder Marcus announced. His sharp gaze swept over her. “The Luna must be more than just a title. She must be worthy.”Elizabeth, standing with a group of warriors, smirked. “If she even lasts the first test.”I clenched my jaw but said nothing. I wanted to see how Phoebe would handle this. I knew she was strong and I had confidence in her. The first challenge was combat. Phoebe stepped into the sparring ring, facing off against an experienced warrior named Luke. He was skilled but not the best—this wa

Duncan's POVThe light filtering through the curtains barely reached my bed, and the faint, cold touch of morning was already creeping across my skin. My head felt like it was being crushed between two stone walls, the weight of the previous night pressing on me. I groaned, feeling the ache in my skull, the headache so sharp I could barely open my eyes. Slowly, I dragged myself into a sitting position, trying to fight the dizziness that swept over me.The events of last night were still a blur, a combination of frustration, too much alcohol, and anger that I couldn’t seem to shake. Antonio and Stephanie were still nowhere to be found, and the pressure of not knowing where they were or what they were doing felt like a constant weight in my chest.A soft sound caught my attention. I glanced to the side, my eyes finally opening to see the servant girl standing by the door, a tray in her hands. She didn’t say anything, just silently approached me, setting the tray down on the small table

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 123

Duncan's POVThe day had stretched long, and the news that came from my warriors only made the time feel heavier. No sign of Antonio. No word of Stephanie. I had expected a different report, maybe even a break in the hunt, but what I got was frustration. Over and over, I heard the same thing: “Nothing yet, Alpha.” It was enough to make my blood boil, but I couldn’t show it. Not yet. I had to keep my calm, had to pretend that it was all still under control.I paced the length of my chambers, my mind working through each possibility, each route they could have taken. Had they gone east? South? Were they hiding under my nose? Nothing made sense, and with every moment that passed, the anger inside me grew. One of my warriors dared to speak up. His voice had a tremor in it, like he knew he was treading on dangerous ground. “Alpha,” he began cautiously. “Perhaps we need better informants. Someone who knows Antonio's habits, his movements. Someone who might know where he’s hiding.”I didn’t

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 122

Nathaniel’s POVThe wheels of our vehicles crunched against the uneven ground as we pushed deeper into the neutral territories. The air felt heavier with each passing mile, thick with tension. I had hoped we’d be able to find Alexander by now, but the farther we traveled, the more uncertain the trail became. Every stop we made, we questioned locals and travelers, but the answers we got were always mixed, sometimes contradictory.“Did you see anyone who fits this description?” I asked a man who was sitting near the side of the road, sharpening a blade. He glanced at the sketch in my hand and shook his head. “Can’t say I’ve seen anyone like that. But there’s a lot of strangers passing through these parts.”I thanked him and turned to the others. “Let’s keep moving. We’re not getting any closer here.”We continued on, the air growing drier and the landscape more barren as we ventured into the heart of these lawless lands. I could feel the weight of the mission pressing on me. This wasn’t

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 121

Nathaniel’s POVThe night was quiet, but I was not resting. I sat near the fire, watching the flames move. They made soft popping sounds as the wood burned. My men were nearby. Some were sitting like me, others were checking supplies. No one was speaking much. We were waiting. Then I heard footsteps. One of my scouts walked toward me. He looked serious, not rushed, but I could tell he had something important to say. He stopped a few steps away from me and gave a small nod.“We got something,” he said. His voice was low. He looked around once before speaking again. “It’s from our contact. The one in the west neutral zone.”I stood up slowly. “What did they say?”He pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me. I took it and opened it with both hands. The words were written in short lines. I read each one carefully, not skipping anything.“Alexander was seen. Not far from the southern ridge. Traveling through the neutral zone. He has a woman and a man with him.”I

Phoebe’s POVWhen I got back to my room, the door creaked a little as I pushed it open. I stepped inside and closed it behind me, turning the lock without thinking. The room was quiet. I could hear a soft hum coming from outside, maybe the wind or some insects still moving around.I stood still for a few seconds, looking around. Everything was just the way I had left it—my bed neatly made, the blankets smooth, the pillow resting where it always did. My boots were near the wall. A glass of water sat untouched on the table beside the bed.I walked over to the bed and sat down slowly. My hands rested on my knees. I looked down at the floor, at the way the wood had little lines and marks from years of use. I had been hoping to rest, maybe even sleep for a bit, but my body didn’t feel tired. My eyes were open wide, and my mind wouldn’t stop moving. The words Kara had said kept playing in my head like they were on a loop. Duncan wasn’t the same. He was getting worse. People were afraid of h

Phoebe’s POVKara and I had another walk when she talked and I listened. As I followed, Kara glanced back at me, then looked forward again. She didn’t smile or frown. Her face was still. We moved toward the trees at the edge of the camp. A few steps more, and we were out of sight from everyone. No guards, no other pack members. Just us.“Is this far enough?” she asked, stopping near a small patch of grass. A few flat stones were nearby.I looked around, then gave a short nod. “Yeah. This is fine.”She sat down first, brushing leaves away from the rock before resting on it. I stayed standing for a moment longer, unsure. I didn’t feel that tightness in my chest like I usually did when she was near. My hands weren’t curled into fists. My thoughts weren’t racing. I slowly sat down on a rock across from her. It was cool and smooth under me.“I didn’t think you’d agree to this,” she said after a long pause. Her voice was low and even.“I almost didn’t,” I replied. “But I guess I’m tired of

Phoebe's POV I stood outside Alpha Darius’s office, my hands by my sides. The hallway was quiet, but my thoughts were not. Someone had come to find me a few minutes earlier, saying the old Alpha wanted to see me. No explanation, no message, just a request to come now. After everything that happened during the attack, I wasn’t sure what this meeting would be about.I knocked once, firm and clear.“Come in,” came his voice from inside, steady as always.I pushed the door open and stepped in.Alpha Darius was standing behind his desk. His face, strong with age but still sharp, looked directly at me. His hair had more grey in it than before, but nothing about him had softened. He didn’t sit down. He stood tall, his arms resting on the desk, like he had been waiting.“Phoebe,” he said, his tone calm.I gave a short nod. “Alpha Darius.”He gestured for me to come closer. “You did well.”I blinked. “Sir?”“During the attack,” he said, folding his arms, “you kept things steady. Duncan's POV I couldn’t sit still. I had to move, had to find the answers. The weight of everything pressing down on me was unbearable. Antonio, Stephanie, the sorceress—everything felt like a lie. I needed to confront the source of it all, and for that, I had to find the sorceress. She had been the one who planted the seed in my mind. She had been the one to tell me about Phoebe’s importance. And now, after everything I overheard, I couldn’t let it go. I had to know the truth.I stormed out of my office and made my way through the pack house with hurried steps. The hallway stretched ahead, but nothing felt as familiar anymore. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how little I actually knew. How easily I had been manipulated.I reached the stables quickly, where my horse was kept. I didn’t need anyone’s help; I didn’t care for the usual formalities. I grabbed the reins and mounted with swift movements, the saddle creaking under me. My heart burned with frustration and ang

  • Mated To The Enemy Alpha   Chapter 116

Duncan's POV The hallways of my estate were quiet as I walked through them, the silence pressing in around me. I had not slept much since the confrontation with Antonio. Too many thoughts ran through my mind.I paced slowly, my mind still locked on Phoebe. The anger, the determination, they felt as sharp as ever. But there was also something else creeping into my mind now: doubt. What if Antonio was right? What if I was letting my emotions cloud my judgment? The thought was maddening. The whole reason I kept pushing forward was for Phoebe. She was my focus, my everything. Without her, nothing mattered.I reached the end of the hall and paused, hearing a low murmur coming from a nearby room. It was coming from Antonio’s office.Curious, I stepped closer, listening carefully. It wasn’t long before I realized the voices were of Antonio and Stephanie. They were speaking in hushed tones, too low for me to understand fully.I paused, just out of sight, and pressed myself against the stone
