I slammed the door shut behind us, it was hard.

I stood still, as I breathed fast and my chest went up and down like I ran a race and my hands were shaking. My head also felt like it was running a race.

What just happened?

Why did I kiss him?

Kai leaned against the wall across the room and his arms were crossed over his chest.

He looked too calm. It was like nothing strange just happened. Like kissing me was normal for him.

But it was not normal for me. Not at all.

“Why did you kiss me?” I asked, I was still breathing fast.

Kai raised his head a little and his voice was calm, like he was not surprised. “You kissed me first.”

“I didn’t mean to,” I said as I ran a hand through my hair and my heart raced fast.

Kai raised one eyebrow. “You wanted to.”

“No,” I said quickly, too quickly.

But my body told a different story.

My hands itched to touch him again and my chest felt tight. My wolf was awake, it was pushing, pacing, growling inside me.

Mine. Mine. Mine.

I took one step back.

But Kai moved forward.

One step and then another and he stopped just in front of me.

His eyes were calm, but his voice was soft. “Your eyes turned gold,” he said.

I looked away. “That doesn’t mean anything.”

“It means everything,” he whispered.

I took another step back, but there was a wall behind me now. I couldn’t go any farther.

Kai stood very close, too close enough that I felt his warmth.

“You felt it, didn’t you?” he asked, his voice like a soft breeze.

I shook my head. “No. I can’t feel anything for a man.”

He leaned even closer. “Then why are you still in this room?”

I couldn’t answer, because I didn’t know.

My mouth didn’t speak, but my hands did.

I grabbed him, again.

And this time, I kissed him even harder.

He gasped into my mouth and I felt his fingers grippee my shirt. We stumbled and my back hit the wall again. A painting crashed to the floor and neither of us cared.

I pushed him back toward the sofa, a velvet one and he fell onto it, and pulled me with him.

His jacket was gone and my shirt buttons popped open, one by one. Our clothes fell to the floor, slowly, like they didn’t matter anymore.

The room was hot now and our skin touched and it burnt.

I kissed his chest and I felt his hands in my hair. He pulled softly, then harder.

He moaned my name. “Lucian…”

My teeth ached and my wolf wanted to come out.

I fought it and I tried, but I couldn’t stop.

And then I bit him.

Right on his shoulder, it was not deep, but deep enough to taste his blood.

Kai gasped again, but he didn’t push me away.

He held me tighter.

I sat up fast.

My chest rose and also fell continuously. I couldn't stop sweating and my head was full of heat and noise.

Kai sat on the arm of the sofa, he was quiet and he put his pants on slowly.

I saw the red mark on his shoulder.

The bite. My bite.

“What… what did I do?” I whispered.

Kai looked over at me and his voice was soft. “Ask your wolf.”

“I’m not like this,” I said. “This isn’t me.”

He didn’t blink. “Then who are you?”

I stood up quickly. “This was a mistake.”

He shrugged, like it was no big deal. “Maybe.”

“I said get out,” I growled.

He looked at me for a second and then he stood and he walked to the door.

He didn’t yell and he didn’t slam the door.

He didn’t even turn back, he just left.

Click, the door closed.

I slided down to the floor, back against the wall and I felt cold now.

Cold and empty.

What have I done?

I threw on a new shirt. I was fast and I washed my face at the sink. I splashed cold water on my neck, but it didn’t help.

His scent was still there and his touch was still on my skin.

I could still feel the bite, I could still hear the sounds we made.

I could still taste him.

Knock.

Before I could answer, the door opened.

Selene walked in.

She was holding two glasses of wine and her dress was still perfect, her face was still cold.

Her eyes narrowed when she saw me.

“There you are,” she said “You weren’t answering your phone.”

“I needed air,” I said. “I was tired.”

She frowned. “In a guest room?”

I didn’t say anything.

She stepped closer and he sniffed the air…like she was searching for something.

“You smell… strange,” she said.

“It’s the wine,” I lied.“I spilled some.”

She looked at me closely.

One brow rose. “Right.”

She walked over and set the wine glasses down on the table.

“Your father wants a photo of us. Smile. Pretend you are happy.”

I nodded. Tightly.

She looked at my face again. “Your hair is messy,” she said.

I stayed quiet.

She then left without saying goodbye.

I let out a slow breath.

One that I didn’t know I was holding.

It was late now and the party was over. The lights were off and the house was quiet again.

I walked into the bathroom and closed the door. The mirror stared back at me and I turned on the tap.

Splash cold water on my face and I breathed. Then I looked up and I froze.

My eyes…They were glowing.

Gold. Not human. Wolf.

“No,” I whispered.

But my wolf was fully awake now.

He was not hiding.

And I heard his voice deep inside me:

“You bit your true mate.”

I gripped the edge of the sink and my fingers dug nto the cold marble.

My breath shook.

I wanted to deny it and I wanted to forget.

But I couldn't

Kai’s scent was still on me.

The taste of his blood was still in my mouth.

The mark was still burning.

I knew the truth now and it scared me.

It changed everything.
