The look on his face made my heart ache. He looked both tortured and pissed. His eyes were filled with so much pain, it made me feel sorrowful. I didn't know what he'd gone through. It was at this point that I realized that I had pushed too hard.

"I'm sorry" I said, lowering my gaze. I had to retreat before his anger flared up to the point where he would lose himself.

"Yes, I killed an innocent woman. I regret it every single day of my life. But, there's nothing I can do about it. I'm a monster, I know that. You don't have to make me feel even worse about myself" he said and I squeezed my eyes shut.

He sounded so broken, his voice reflecting raw emotions. It was the first time I was seeing him for who he was. The intensity of the amount of pain that radiated from him was overwhelming.
