Chapter 16

Rylee's POV.

I am not ready to be a mother, but if only I knew who the man was. I tried not to think about the possibility of getting pregnant.

"I was safe," I told myself and watched Elizabeth bring me a plate of hot rice.

"Thank you," I smiled at her as she sat next to me on my bed.

"So what do you plan to do next, Rylee? Contact Bella's mother and ask her for money, or let it go? How about the 10 million given to you?" Elizabeth asked, and I sighed.

"I will check it out on Monday. Don't tell anyone about my predicament, not even your mother," I told Elizabeth as I looked at her face sternly, knowing that her family would want to know what took her to the pack house.

"Fine. I won't tell them about you mating with an unknown man. Besides, you are an adult. So why would anyone bash you?" Elizabeth laughed, and that made me relieved.

"Right. I won't get bashed, but many would want to know who if I suddenly get pregnant. I would be reported to the Alpha's family, and I cannot think of the consequences right now," I rubbed my aching head, and Elizabeth assured me.

"Relax, Rylee. The pills will flush out any remains of that person's sperm. Next time, you remind your escort to use a condom," Elizabeth lectured me, but I wasn't in my right frame of mind at that moment.

I blame it on my broken state. If only I had a wolf like others have.

After I lost my parents in the last rogue attack, I became traumatized and scared of wolves. I think that's why I wasn't able to shift. I didn't want to have a wolf, as I was scared of the attack.

But I knew that if I had a wolf, she would have helped me to detect the man's scent and let me know who the man was.

I was saddened by the trauma that I had no wolf or mate, despite being twenty years old.

"It's okay, Rylee. Everything will be fine," Elizabeth assured me, and I sighed heavily as I ate my food.

"I hope so," I said, finishing the hot rice that Elizabeth helped me prepare.

"Care to join me?" I asked Elizabeth, once I finished my food.

"No need. You need it more than I do. I will eat once I get upstairs," Elizabeth said, and I knew the leftover wasn't much.

"It's fine. But what do you think about Beta Fabian? I suspect that he might be the one who mated with me last night. Why would he bring us back? I recalled that I saw him last night at the pack's hotel. He chased me away from the clubroom when I was admiring Alpha Malakai. I remember that I wanted to go and meet Alpha Malakai, after admiring him. Something in me snapped and made me feel like Alpha Malakai was my... No way. It cannot be him," I shook my head as I drank my bottle of water.

"Want?" Elizabeth's eyes widened in shock, and she said, "Alpha Malakai? Do you have a death wish, Rylee? You know it's forbidden for an alpha to have a mate as an omega, let alone mate with a weak link in this pack."

"I know," I sighed at what Elizabeth said.

"Then why did Alpha Malakai protect me from Mr. Nathan this morning, when Mr. Nathan was bullying me and held me by my neck?" I asked Elizabeth, as I looked at her face.

I told Elizabeth what happened before she arrived with Nash this morning.

"Rylee, there is no way that Alpha Malakai could be your mate. Though he has no mate, he can't mate with you. Maybe he was just passing by and saw Mr. Nathan bullying you. And he saved you. I don't think he is the one. And you shouldn't say it to anyone else to avoid the Alpha's wrath, not even Nash Cameron can save you. It will put you in danger if the pack members get to find out that you are interested in Alpha Malakai," Elizabeth advised me, and I understood the gravity of her words.

"I am not interested in Alpha Malakai. I am only trying to remember who the man was," I said at last, and my friend sighed.

"It's okay, Rylee. You will be fine, or the man will reach out to you," Elizabeth assured me, and I looked at her face and nodded.

"Thank you for being my best friend and helping me out," I said, and stood up from the bed as I hugged her.

"You're welcome, Rylee. You should get enough rest since you are not going to work today, until on Monday. Try not to think of the man that you mated with, and let's hope that he doesn't come after you again, or maybe, you don't carry his child," Elizabeth said.

"Alright," I agreed and escorted Elizabeth out of my room as she left.

I locked the door and went to keep my used plate in the kitchen and wash it out. As I have a personal kitchen in this two-bedroom apartment that I shared with my younger brother.

As I exited the kitchen, I went to my room and dropped on the bed.

Then I laid back on my bed and tried to sleep.

I recalled that after the last rogue attack, Alpha Oliver Preston came to see all the affected families, and he ordered for this peaceful estate to be built.

He built a towering wall to protect our entire pack, and also, after the estate was completed, it was put up for rentals.

Alpha Oliver Preston sealed off the old houses area and started the renovation.

We were forbidden to return to those sites to avoid bringing back painful memories, but the memory lives with us.

Especially those who lost someone.

The traumatic past of 15 years ago. And it was best we didn't visit those sites.

Sighing, as I knew that my brother was in boarding school, and he will soon graduate.

I hoped the 10 million check was real so I don't have to worry myself about Nash and Bella's family.

I shut my eyes and succumbed to sleep.
