Mira's POV

I shoved my phone under my pillow and jumped out of bed to close the windows as if that would somehow keep whoever knew my dirty secret away.

No one could find out about this and yet someone knew. Hadn't we been careful enough?

I leaned against the window practising simple breathing exercises as my mind raced with different scenarios all of which ended in my mother being disappointed with me.

Tears welled up in my eyes and I suddenly burst out laughing, the ridiculousness of the situation hilarious.

“What kind of sick game are you playing with me, moon goddess?” I wshoepred too scared to scream for fear someone outside might hear.

I had just done a very disgusting thing and even if my mum found out, she'd never forgive me.

This was the first man she finally found happiness with after my shitty ass father almost ruined our lives.

Granted Alpha Remy wasn't her mate either but at least he cared enough about her to stay.

Jumping onto my bed, I grabbed my pillow and screamed into it in frustration.

What was I going to do? If there was someone that knew about us then I had to reject Kayden and debunk the story fast so that when the person eventually came out to tell the tale, they'd look like the idiot.

Even if the person had clips from when he kissed me at the wedding, we could deny everything and say that was before I knew who he was.

We could blame it on the mate bond and point out that we'd rejected each other afterwards because we placed our parents' happiness over ours.

Their happily ever after mattered more than anything we could wish for.

“Yes that's what has to happen,” I whispered to myself as tears began rolling down my cheeks.

Kayden and I had a whole unique situation that had to be dealt with with maximum cautiousness.

We were still very young and would have no problem meeting other people in our lifetime and finding love.

My mum and Alpha Remy on the other hand were at a critical point in their lives where they couldn't just find someone else well my mum more than him because she was an older woman and men never really went for women with kids.

Alpha Remy had probably only been attracted to her because she had kids just like him so they found a common ground on which their love grew.

And it wasn't a lie, Kayden had rejected me but our wolves were fighting against it hence the intensity of our attraction everytime we were two feets apart.

But we couldn't let our wolves, the animalistic sides of us dictate what happened in our lives.

We had to be the rational ones and make up our minds to do the right thing by our parents.

Our parents have made several sacrifices for us up until this moment so if this was the one thing we could do to pay them back then surely it wasn't so difficult?

Sobs wracked my body and I gave him crying my eyes out.

I don't know how long I was in my room for and I must have fallen asleep because the next time I opened my eyes, someone was banging on my room door loudly.

“Mira! Wake up sleepyhead,”

Groggily, I made my way to the door my mind foggy and unclear.

Openings it, I found myself staring at Zane. Immediately the haze passed and I frowned.

“Finally,” she rolled her eyes, sarcasm dripping from her tone. “How could you sleep so deeply?”

“Zane? What are you doing here?”

She shrugged as if her standing outside my room was the most natural thing. “Am I not welcome here? Is that it?”

I rolled my eyes and stepped aside for her to walk in. “What are you doing here Zane?”

“No reason bestie, I just missed you so much,” she hugged me and I narrowed my eyes.

Something was definitely wrong.

“Zane honey,” I starred as I pulled away from the hug and looked at her. She was a few inches shorter than me which gave me an advantage. “What's wrong? Did you and Cameron have a fight?”

“Of course,” she replied too quickly and shook her head, confirming my suspicions.

My protective instincts kicked in and I quickly led her to the bed so we could talk about whatever it was. “Come here babe,”

She didn't resist and together we sat on the bed. I winced as a sharp pain in my hip prevented me from sitting properly.

“What's wrong?” She asked, jumping to her feet. Quickly she scanned my body with her eyes while her hands double-checked.

When her fingers grazed my hip once more, I hissed in pain and she gasped.

“Oh my God you have an injury,” she touched it again and this time I let out a piercing scream. “Oh dear, what happened?”

I cast my mind back to the events of the day and what could have caused this.

Images from when I fell in my mother's bathroom after Kayden proudly announced how he has rejected me flashed in my mind and I shook my head, feigning ignorance.

“I have no idea.” I lied through my teeth and she sighed. “But it's fine. I'm sure it'll disappear in a couple of days.”

She narrowed her eyes at me. “Young lady, that isn't fine. You're in pain. Wait, why are you naked?”

I flushed and looked down at my body and sure enough, I hadn't put clothes after everything that happened earlier.

My mind began racing as I remembered the anonymous text but I schooled my expression not wanting to give anything away.

“Alright get up, we're going to on an adventure but in this case to the pack clinic.”

Immediately I declined. “It's not that serious Zane, I think you're overreacting.”

She scoffed and got up from my bed. Without saying another word, she walked to my closet and began pursuing through it, trying to find me an outfit.

“Seriously Zane there's no need for…”

She held up her hand as she turned to face me, one of my sundresses in her hand. “Shush. You're not getting out of this one so easily. Now stop being stubborn and put this on. Or would you prefer I call your mother?”

That got me jumping off my bed instantly. I didn't want to worry my mother with something so tribal.

“I hate you,” I whispered as I slipped into the dress.

“I love you bitch,” she chuckled and helped me get dressed.

Kayden’s povI got out of my room and walked through the hallways as the morning sun slanted through the hallways windows.Just when I got to the dinner table, I saw Jamie sitting at the table by herself. She was eating there with her two friends as they seemed to be playing with their foods.“Hey,” I said to her.She glanced up, milk spilling out the side of her mouth. “Morning.” Her voice was garbled. She reached for her sleeve and wiped.I leaned against the chair. “Where’s Mira?”“Uh… no idea. Haven’t seen her since yesterday.”"Not at all?""Nope." She popped the 'p' and glanced at her friends who just kept staring into their bowls. Something in her voice bugged me. Mira wasn’t one to disappear without a word, even if it was just a door slam or some pissy muttering on her way out. This silence was not normal.I wanted to ask for more details when I heard someone behind me.“Kayden!”I turned to see one of the warriors from alpha freya’s pack coming close to me.He was a big man,

Mira’s povHe smirked. “Not my kind of scene.” His eyes flicked back to me. “Be safe.”There was a pause… just a second too long and then I nodded without saying anything.“We will. Let’s go before the driver leaves without us.”As we went to the door, Kim giggled about how cute Kayden was but I ignored that.We made for the door, the horn sounding again. As we stepped outside, I couldn’t get the feeling out of my mind that Kayden was watching us from the window in the hallway.I refused to look back as we got into the car and the driver drove us to where we needed to go.In the car only Kim and Zane talked while also singing to the songs on the radio. They tried to coerce me into joining them but my mind was filled with the pain of what I was going through. Yeah, I couldn’t think of anything but where I was going to get out a hundred thousand dollars to pay the strange person.Soon we got to the venue and we got out.Zane came to stand before Kim and I as she looked at our dressing.

Mira’s povMy mouth went dry. I threw the phone on my mattress and walked in a tight, dizzy little circle, trying to breathe. The window was open just a bit and the freezing air came over me but it wasn’t enough air.I had to keep telling myself, it’s nothing. It’s nothing. That if I ignore it, it would go away. But who was I kidding. For months now I had been blackmailed and now it was just too apparent that this person would not stop until they destroyed me.At that moment, my phone rang.I literally jumped. My heart almost punched through my ribs. The same unknown number.I didn’t want to pick up. I really, really didn’t. But my thumb moved before I could stop it.I picked up the phone. “Hello?”Nothing at first, just a low static buzz, like at the end of a record. Then I heard a voice—or something like one.It wasn’t male. It wasn’t female. It was… wrong. Flat. Robotic.Like one of those creepy voice changers you see in movies.“Till sunrise,” it said. “Just pay the money… or you

Mira’s povThe next day felt… heavy. Almost like I had a lot of weight pressing me down.Hadn’t even slept well after all those messages. The text was still sitting there on my phone, glowing in my mind even when the screen was black.I was in Zane’s room, sitting cross-legged on her worn-out gray couch, pretending to listen while she and Kim complained about how they’d gotten chewed out by their parents for coming home late.“I swear, my mom nearly ripped the door off when I got home,” Zane said, falling back against the cushions like the memory alone was exhausting her. “She had that look—you know the one—like she was gonna give me the whole ‘I’m not mad, just disappointed’ speech, but nope. Straight to yelling.”I smirked weakly even when my mind wasn’t even there.“Oh and my dad,” she continued. “My dad wasn’t even happy. He just yelled as well. So yeah. Double yelling. Ten out of ten would not recommend it.”Kim laughed, but there was no real joy in it. She was sitting on the fl

Mira’s povI could feel his hand around my wrist before I’d even fully stepped past the dining table.“Let go of me,” I said, not wanting to bring attention to us.But Kayden being Kayden refused to do that.He looked around and saw no one was looking as he got even closer to me. “They’re not here.” He finally spoke again when he must have realized I wasn’t going to make a dash for it despite having had plenty of time already.I looked at him. “I don’t care. I don’t have to be here with you.”“I need to know now,” he said, voice high and panicked. “Where were you tonight?”I almost laughed, if only there were anything remotely amusing about his expression. “I went to a party.”“You were too seductive for that.”I scoffed, pulling my arm free. “Too seductive? Seriously? What are you, the fashion police of bad excuses? And it’s none of your business.”“What do you mean it’s none of my business. You’re my…”“I’m nothing to you,” I growled at him. I then turned and started walking away

Mira’s pov“Good evening,” was all I could say as I walked towards them.My stepfather looked up from the head of the table—Alpha posture, shoulders straight, jaw set. “Mira,” he said, as if my name were a greeting and an order to get in my seat already. My mother flashed me a smile.“I…” I waved vaguely toward the hallways. They knew where I’d been. they didn’t want me late anyway. I slipped into the chair beside Kayden directly across from Jamie and wished instantly that I’d chosen someplace elseKayden was chewing slowly, eyes flicking at me like I’d interrupted his peaceful dinner. Jamie smirked, not that I could tell who she meant it for – me or just her face. Either way, I didn’t look at her and concentrated on dishing soup into my own bowl.“So,” my mother began cutting through the quiet clinking of silver on porcelain. “How are things with your new friend?”I looked up, halfway through the act of bringing a spoonful of cereal to my mouth. “Kim? Oh, um. She’s,” I shrugged best
