Mira’s povI got up from bed and felt a sharp wince in my side as I shook my head. I was still healing. With a stretch, I looked at the darkening window and shrugged. My life would never go back to the way it used to be. But I would distract myself from this moment I was living in.I was just about to give up and roll away from my bed when my phone made a loud buzzing noise on my nightstand. The sound caused me to jump, my heart skipping in the process and taking a deep breath I tried to steady myself before going over to pick it up and saw that it was a message. I furrowed a brow as I swiped across the screen. The number wasn’t one that I had saved and it had ‘Unknown number’ written down. My heart sped even more as quickly as my eyes took in what had been sent to me while feeling all of the blood within me growing icier than ice itself. It read: “I know what you did with your step brother, you dirty slut!”My breath caught in my throat. I read the words again, my eyes growing wider
Kayden’s povI shook my head, stopping myself not to look at him as I pretended I didn’t hear him. I ignored him this first time. “ I wasn’t thinking about anyone,” I said trying to sound casual but Sam was not convinced.“Gods, you’re such a bad liar,” he said laughing and he bumped into me with his shoulder as if trying to provoke me. “I bet you were thinking of her. You know… your beautiful step-sister, Mira...” He drawed her name all slow and soft making his voice sound all dreamy as if he was part of some lovie-dovie play.I stopped walking and turned to him, narrowing my eyes. “Cut it out, Sam.” I told him.He just laughed and put his arms behind his head. “Seriously, though, man,” he said, not taking me seriously in the least. “How do you handle it? Mira’s smoking hot. I’m surprised you haven’t tried to tap that yet.”My fists clenched at my side. “I said cut it out,” I repeated, my voice lowered this time, and heat rose to my face, and it wasn’t from the training. He could see
Kayden’s povHe shrugged again, still grinning. “You’re too slow,” he answered simply. “You swing with all your strength, but no speed. It’s easy to dodge.”“That’s a lie. I’m fast enough.”“One more?” he said, eyebrows raised. “You sure you can handle that?”I squinted and held my hands out in front of me, waggled them back and forth. “Okay,” I declared aloud, giving my neck a twist for good measure as I stood up and readied myself. “Maybe two.” He laughed.I smirked, stepping back in position. “Oh, I can handle it.” I said firmly. He grinned and nodded. “Alright then. Let’s see it.”This time, I moved slower, more controlled. I watched his feet, watched the way his body shifted. I swung, lighter this time, before getting faster. He stepped back, his eyes bright with surprise but he was still too quick. He ducked under my arm, his hands moving fast and before I knew it, I was back on the floor.I groaned loudly this time and my hands flew to cover my face. “This is ridiculous,” I sa
Kayden’s povI took the steps two at a time, my boots crashing on the cold stone stairs as I ran back down. The palace was quiet, sunlight slanting in through narrow windows and striping the hallway before me, but I hardly saw any of it. Mira—or, rather, what she’d said—filled my head. Her eyes on mine as she murmured her words—and more questions had bubbled up in me. I clapped a hand to my forehead and forced them back.Well... there was one place where my mind always made tracks away from questions.I threw open the thick doors and stepped inside. The room was large and stocked with weapons—a practice haven along every wall—combat dummies stood with doll arms ready for practice nearby.Quiet meant empty. Good. I would stay in this empty training hall and train till my arms fell off.I grabbed one of the practice staff from the weapons rack and crossed to stand in front of one of the dummies. Its smooth, wooden surface was sickeningly clean beneath my palms, marred only by the thousa
Mira’s povKayden looked at the door with wide eyes as his body went stiff. His eyes turned to me as he nodded and got away from me.“She is here. Sit up and act like nothing happened.”I frowned, the confusion causing my brows to narrow. “Sure I guess?” Kayden looked at me, his eyes sharp. “We need to be cool,” he told me, fast. “No questions, no weird looks. Just…be cool.” I nodded quickly. My heart rate quickened when in the next second I tried to stand up straighter and brush my hands down over my clothes. Then the door opened sharply without another knock. My mom barreled into the room right after that entry—her heels clicking against the floor—and then her gaze was centered on us both in this strange moment of shared confusion for what might be going on.It landed on Kayden first before it moved onto me.Her brow raised with some surprise thinly veiled within it thinly. “What is happening?” she asked us both demurely enough even if there was an air beneath her voice as though s
Mira’s povKayden didn’t listen to me as he carried me in his arms with a strong hold. I struggled in his arms as my fists slammed against his bare chest.“Put me down, Kayden! Let me go!” I yelled in frustration but he merely glanced at me as we moved away from the room at an even pace.“No,” he simply answered, his voice steady and unyielding even as I continued to hit him. His chest was bare against my palms and warm—his heart beating strongly beneath the flesh there. My wolf purred with approval at our contact and the warmth that seeped into our bones but I growled at her mentally to back off in retaliation.“Kayden, I said put me down!” I shouted again, but he only tightened his grip, moving swiftly down the hall. It was embarrassing to see the maids looking at us with a loving look as they only saw us as two siblings playing with each other. If only they knew the whole story. He didn’t break in his stride as he got to my room and stepped in.“Okay… what the hell are you doing?”
Mira's POV I got discharged later than evening but instead of going home with Zane as I wanted to do before, I opted for going home instead. The weird dynamic between Zane and Cameron was something I knew I wouldn't be able to handle. They weren't ready to talk about whatever it was that was between them and me being me, I would want to know and legit force it out of them. Instead of doing that, I chose to face my mother's constant worry instead. It was better than dealing with them and walking on eggshells while avoiding the elephant in the room. “Come on Mira you know you can stay if you want.” Zane begged as I got into the cab. “I want you to stay,” she whispered, her eyes begging me not to leave her. I frowned. It was at the top of my tongue to ask her what was wrong but I didn't want to push. Instead, I offered. “You can come with me if you want.” Her glazed over with excitement but as soon as she took a step, her favourite fell. “I can't, Cameron and I need to talk.” R
Mira's POV “That's one nasty bruise. You must have slipped in the bathroom or something,” the doctor at the clinic said as she attended to me. After Zane threatened to involve my mother, I finally gave in and allowed her to bring me to the hospital. Of course I knew exactly what happened to my hip but I was willing to share the details for two reasons. One, I was trying so hard not to remember how much pain Kayden had caused me both physically and emotionally. Two, it wasn't important to dwell on the past since I was going to accept him rejection anyway. Oh yes there was a third reason. I didn't want to worry Zane. She knew me so well and if I started talking I was afraid I'd reveal much more than I should. Zane would probably not understand why I wasn't keen on rejecting Kayden even if our relationship was illegal and disgusting. She wouldn't understand that him being my mate made the situation 100% harder to deal with than most situations. If Kayden had bee
Mira's POV I shoved my phone under my pillow and jumped out of bed to close the windows as if that would somehow keep whoever knew my dirty secret away. No one could find out about this and yet someone knew. Hadn't we been careful enough? I leaned against the window practising simple breathing exercises as my mind raced with different scenarios all of which ended in my mother being disappointed with me. Tears welled up in my eyes and I suddenly burst out laughing, the ridiculousness of the situation hilarious. “What kind of sick game are you playing with me, moon goddess?” I wshoepred too scared to scream for fear someone outside might hear. I had just done a very disgusting thing and even if my mum found out, she'd never forgive me. This was the first man she finally found happiness with after my shitty ass father almost ruined our lives. Granted Alpha Remy wasn't her mate either but at least he cared enough about her to stay. Jumping onto my bed, I grabbed
