INGRID'S P.O.V.
I let out a heavy breath as I tried to contain myself. If that wasn't the first and best I've ever had, then I don't know what is. I watched Aegon roll himself out of the bed to pick his shirt from the floor, but I was still curious as to why he didn't do it.
“Why didn't you mark me?” I asked as I started to feel a sense of anger within me.
“Because I didn't want to.”
“What? Aegon we are mates, you are meant to mark me when we mate to complete…"
“I know what the mating process is all about.” His voice sounded rough and irritated as he continued to wear his clothes, but the entire conversation was causing me a near heart attack.
“Aegon, make me understand what the hell is going on?” He let out a sigh and turned around to look at me.
“I knew we were mates right before this moment.” I furrowed my eyebrows confused.
“Why didn't you say anything? We could have…"
“We wouldn't have done anything. You are an Omega, and I'm an Alpha. There's a huge difference in where we stand in this pack, we could never be together, understand that!” He snapped as he got up from the bed.
“So you're going to take my dignity away and just leave? Have you lost your mind, Aegon? Power? Is that what this is truly about?”
“You are nothing but an omega, and you are absolutely no match for…" I slapped him across the face as I felt a mix of emotions within me.
“Omega or not, I am not a weak person. Aegon we have longed to be mates since forever even your parents wanted that.”
“I never wanted to be your mate. The only reason we are still friends is because of my parents, I would have been done with you a long time. Listen to me, no one must hear that we were mates ever, or I will make sure you are dead.” I swallowed hard as I felt my heart being broken into pieces.
“Aegon, think…"
“There's nothing to think about.”
“You just took my dignity away, my pride and…"
“I don't care about that. Honestly, you are the best person I've slept with so far and that's what I wanted to figure out, how it truly feels to sleep with your mate and now that I've gotten it, I have nothing to do with you.”
“How dare you?” My vision became blurry as I tried not to cry in front of him.
This bastard!
“I will be mated to Dagna soon and you…" I huffed as I let out a laugh.
“Of course! What was I thinking? She's the one behind this, but you're forgetting that this is a mate bond we can't break it because we are destined, has Dagna really gotten to your head this much?”
“This has nothing to do with Dagna. I will reject you and you will accept it.”
“You can't be serious about that.” I looked at him in disbelief
“I, Aegon Reynolds, Alpha of Ironwood Pack, reject you, Ingrid Maverick as my mate and Luna.” Tears filled my eyes as pain pierced through my heart.
“I, Ingrid Maverick, accept your rejection.” I turned around in the bed and covered myself with the duvet as I shut my eyes.
I heard him moving around in the room then I felt a part of the bed go down as he put his hands over my back like he had always done ever since we were little, but this time it felt empty and lost.
“Do you need something?” I pulled the duvet away from my face to look at him and I could see the confusion in his eyes.
He wanted to break, but there was no way I was going to do that.
“No, I don't. Remember, no one must know. I'll send myself out.” He stood up and left the room.
I heard the main entrance close and felt his absence. Tears rolled down my eyes as I wanted to scream and howl, but I couldn't. The pain in my heart was unbearable:
It's been seventeen years since my parents died in the fire after they had saved Aegon and his mother. If they hadn't been saved, then they would still be alive, and I would be happy, but this pack will be without an heir, a Luna, and an Alpha with his sanity intact.
They had sacrificed their lives for Aegon and his mother, that's why they took me in. I was just three, but I could remember everything that happened. Alpha Kane and Luna Vimon loved me as though I were their daughter and that's how I became friends with Aegon.
Imagining my life without him was a terror. Was I the devil to wish my parents didn't make that sacrifice they did?
There was no doubt that I missed them and I wished I knew them better. I had no memories of them except the memory of them dying in that fire, nothing else. I had convinced Alpha Kane to let me stay among the pack members as I would rather not stay in the Alpha's chambers anymore, and he gave me this place.
They are nice people but Aegon got lost before I even got the chance to find him. Ever since Dagna came into his life, it's been a living hell with him.
A knock at the door caught my attention and I cleaned up before heading towards the door and I realized it was the Alpha's guard.
“Theo.”
“Hi, Ingrid. The Alpha wants you in the house. It's almost dinner time.”
“Tell him I don't have an appetite. I ate a lot at noon, but I'll come for breakfast tomorrow.” He smiled before leaving.
I shut the door as I felt my heart being heavy. I couldn't bring myself to sit at that table. The entire family will be there, including Dagna; it will cause nothing but pain knowing that the mate bond was broken.
#It isn't broken, you never rejected him# I heard my wolf whisper.
AEGON'S P.O.V.“Ingrid!” I yelled for the third time but no one answered, “... Come on, Ingrid, can you quit being so childish! Father had been looking for you!” But I got nothing in response. This girl has completely lost her mind. It's been four days, and she has been missing every meal we have eaten in four days. Father allowed her to stay out of the Alpha's chambers, but mother insisted on her having every meal with us. I used my legs to break the door down, but I was greeted with silence and dust. Ingrid hasn't been seen by anyone in the pack, the only place you could find her is in the house, but she wasn't there. “Ingrid!” I yelled as I barged into the room to see everywhere empty, her belongings and everything was gone. She couldn't have… I noticed a paper in the bed and picked it up. I'm sorry, but I can't stay here anymore. This girl was dumb! I hit the bed out of anger and walked out to see the guards having worried expressions all over their faces. My parents were go
INGRID'S P.O.V.“Are you alright?” A woman held on to my hand as I almost fell off the stairs, but I held on to the stair handle as though my life depended on it, well, technically it did.“Yes I am, thank you.”“You need to be careful, and it's not a good idea to walk around when you are this heavy.”“Well my baby enjoys the weather. I greatly appreciate your help ma'am.” She walked away with a smile and I let out a sigh.I walked down the street and the moment I got to my apartment I crashed on the couch feeling completely exhausted. It's been three months since I left and it has been a living hell. The moment I found out I was pregnant with Aegon's child, I knew I needed to leave, I had no choice. Aegon was going to make me abort this child and I couldn't let that happen. I hated my life, there was no doubt about that, but for the sake of my baby I needed to live, I had to fight and keep going. Aegon had destroyed me completely, I mean if we weren't mates it would have been better
AEGON'S P.O.V.“For the last time Dagna stay out of this problem!” I yelled at her and she folded her arms with a frown on her face.“I'm trying so hard not to intervene, but look at it from my perspective. Your parents hate me, your father precisely can't even stand my presence and ever since she went missing you don't even spare me a glance!”“I'm trying my best to get her back, so we can live a happy life.”“You don't seem to want me anymore, you are irritated by everything I do every day, I can barely touch your hand without you being angry.” I let out a sigh knowing that she was telling the truth, but honestly, everyone irritates me these days.“I'm sorry about that, I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.”“That's what you said the last time.” She stood up from the balcony's chair and covered herself with a duvet on the bed.I knew she wanted to be alone, and I left the room entirely for her. Dagna has been nothing but a pain in the ass ever since Ingrid went missing and my fath
INGRID'S P.O.V.“I… Argh!?” I screamed as I felt a piercing plane in my abdomen and my dress felt wet. "… My… My water just broke.” His eyes widened as I tried to reach for his hand. “Aegon please.” Tears rolled down my eyes as the pain increased. “It's not your water, it's blood” He mumbled, and my eyes widened “... Theo!!” He yelled and the door immediately flew open. “I…" I trailed off as I felt another wave of pain and the blood oozed from my inside, causing me to scream. “Hold on.” They carried me to a car and as Theo took the wheels, Aegon held my hand while trying his best to subside the pain I felt, but it was of no use.“Quit rub… Rubbing my belle, it hurts!” I cried out and he immediately pulled his hand away.My body felt drained and weak, looking towards Aegon I realized he was biting his nails like he does when he was worried, and I reached for his hand.“I'll be fine.” My head felt light as his mouth moved, but I couldn't air a word that he was saying and the last thi
DAGNA'S P.O.V.I looked at the chaos happening in the room and I slowly left and pain pierced my heart. All my hard work for the past few months was gone in just a blink of an eye."Dagna." His voice made me freeze.“Don't you dare, call my name.”“Dagna, please listen to me, I can fix this.”“Fix this? You cheated on me with her, hell. You even have a child with her, and you dare to speak of fixing, I do not want anything from you Aegon. We are done.”“Dagna please.” I turned around and left the hospital and immediately headed towards the woods as I ran as fast as I could in tears. I sat beside the lake as I quietly cried, and my body went cold as I heard a branch crack behind me. I turned around and came face to face with the man who had caused the fire that killed Ingrid's parents years ago and wanted to kill Aegon's parents, which made me sigh in relief.“Oh, it's just you, Dad.”“What are you doing here? You're meant to be with Argon and his family.”“I broke up with him. He has
What do you want now? You've finally gotten what you wished for, Dagna is out of this house!” “Watch your tone, Aegon!” Dad growled at me, and I fought the urge to roll my eyes as I looked at him. “Watch my tone? You both have always wanted me to be mated to Ingrid, well you got your wish, but I didn't get mine, let's face it, the pack is never going to accept that their Luna is a weak Omega…"“Cut it out, son!”“Oh now it hurts? You finally feel how I feel? Dagna is gone because of you, both, and now I'm stuck to a woman I do not love. I made a mistake, I know it, but we both don't even want to be together. What's the big deal if we separate?”“The big deal is that baby."“We aren't even sure that the baby is mine! She could literally be lying right now…"“Only an Alpha's baby can be carried for three months, you idiot! Listen to me Aegon I have had enough of your stupidity. You will be a good father and mate to both of them, just as your father said earlier, do not let myself or y
DAGNA'S P.O.V.My heart heavier with each breath I took as I thought about the first time I met him. Though I had the plan of getting his attention and deriving the answers I needed but for some dumb reason I could never bring myself to do it.Dad had sent me on an errand that would have made me a Luna by now, but I messed up and fell in love, hell! I even tried to get pregnant for this man, but he cheated on me with his mate.My heart burns for Aegon. I have no doubt about that, but what he had done had not only left me heartbroken, it had also made me get Dad angrier than he has ever been. I knew he was still angry that his mate abandoned him for another man, yet I reminded him of her. It was bad enough that I was the spitting image of her, perhaps that was the reason he never showed he loved me. He saw her in me every time he looked at me. “Young lady, you aren't allowed to go there.” I stopped in my tracks as I heard a man's voice and I turned to look on at a warrior walking tow
INGRID'S P.O.V.Placing Theo gently in his crib, I walked towards the balcony to get a rest. It was eight in the morning and I felt so exhausted, Theo kept me up all night while Aegon was nowhere to be found, yet they expect us to live like this forever. It was almost time for breakfast, but, like always, I'll have it upstairs. I didn't enjoy sitting at the table or talking to anyone anymore. I heard the door open, but I didn't bother to turn, knowing it was the maid who usually bought my food for me.“Ingrid.” I froze in my spot as I heard Vimon's voice. I turned around to look at her still standing by the door, and she walked inside before closing the door and I knew damn well that I wasn't going to hear the end of this.“Theo is asleep.”“I'm not here for Theo, come and have breakfast with us.”“Look, I appreciate your concern about me, but honestly, I just want to be here all alone.”“It's not a request Ingrid, get dressed and come downstairs to join us.”“I'm not…"“What Aegon
VIMON’S POVThe scent of blood clung to the walls like a second skin.Even after the chaos had quieted, and Wally had been dragged away in chains, Vimon’s heart refused to calm. Something still buzzed in the air something ancient, angry, and unfinished. She stood silently just outside the Alpha’s chambers, her eyes scanning the shattered marble floor, the blood-streaked tapestry, the remnants of violence that no cleansing spell could erase. Aegon sat hunched near the hearth, his arm bandaged, his face grim. Ingrid was beside him, shaken but strong, the bat still clutched in her fingers as though she didn’t trust anyone else to finish the job if Wally rose again.Kane had taken the guards aside for debriefing. But Vimon? She was still listening to the shadows. And the shadows were whispering back. Her wolf stirred beneath her skin, unsettled. Not by fear but by recognition. That weapon Wally wielded… it wasn’t just powered by the sacred jewel. It called to something older than their ki
Break her before......WALLY’S POVThe Night Before the Full MoonThe wind howled through the crumbling ruins of the old stone temple like a cry from the dead. It was fitting, really. The place had once been sacred, blessed by the ancient wolves who had forged peace between the supernatural and the mortal. But now, under my hands, it was nothing more than a decaying monument, a sanctuary turned slaughterhouse.I stood beneath the broken arch of the moon altar, clutching the Jewel of Light in my gloved palm. Even through the fabric, I could feel the pulse of power vibrating through it. It sang to me, soft at first, but growing louder with each day. It was restless… eager. Like me.The ritual couldn’t be completed until tomorrow night. The full moon would rise high over Hoia Baciu Forest, and when it did, the final weapon would be born. With the Jewel fused into the relic I had crafted, and Ingrid’s life extinguished through the broken mate bond, there would be no stopping me.I gritted
I will do itIngrid’s POVI could still feel the Jewel humming beneath my skin.It wasn’t just a stone anymore, it had become a part of me. A second heartbeat. A curse. A promise. I pressed my palm lightly to where it rested beneath the covers, warm like blood, like flame. The energy coiled within it was calmer now, dormant. But I knew that was a lie. A storm was only quiet before it tore the sky open.I stared at the ceiling for what felt like hours after Vimon left.Everything she said made sense. And yet… nothing felt real.Aegon.His name used to feel like home. Now it felt like a blade pressed to my throat.I had loved him through every rejection, every cruel word, every silence that screamed louder than thunder. I’d believed in the boy who once held my hand when I cried, the one who whispered secrets into my hair and promised to never let me go.But that boy was gone. What remained was a man too easily seduced, too easily lost to the shadows of his own guilt. And yet…He was sti
Don't trust him anymore Aegon's POV We got her back to the manor before the first rays of dawn touched the mountains. Vimon and Kane were already waiting, both shaken to the core. Vimon rushed to her side the moment she saw her, hands glowing with a gentle blue light as she began her healing.Kane pulled me aside, his face grim. “I felt the surge. The Jewel woke.”I nodded. “And nearly killed her in the process.”He glanced toward Ingrid, lying pale on the bed, Nico hovering beside her like a hawk. “But she survived. That says something.”“It says she’s stronger than all of us,” I said bitterly. “And I didn’t deserve her.”He didn’t argue.I didn’t expect him to.Later that night, I sat by her bedside alone. The room was dim, moonlight slanting through the curtains like quiet ghosts. She hadn’t woken. But her chest rose and fell steadily now. That was something.I reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face.“You once told me that love wasn’t about protection,” I whispered.
Turning the jewei against himNico’s POV (continued)Aegon’s eyes locked on mine, gold flaring with both fury and fear. I could feel the shift in him no longer just a wolf, or even a mate. He was becoming something else under the pressure of it all. But there was no time to analyze the change. Not now.“She’s in danger, Aegon,” I said, voice low. “And not just from Wally or Dagna. The Jewel, the mate bond, the timing its all connected.”He narrowed his eyes. “Speak clearly, Nico.”I nodded once, then pulled out the brittle scroll I’d found. “This ancient text it talks about the Jewel of Light needing a ‘marked sacrifice’ to awaken fully. Someone bound by pain, by love. Wally wants to kill Ingrid, yes but not just physically. He’s using your bond. Every time you give in to Dagna, Ingrid suffers. If you do it a third time… it might end her.”His fists clenched, jaw tight. “You’re saying......"“Yes,” I cut in. “That was never a coincidence. Dagna seduced you because Wally planned it. An
Ingrid's POV Protector of the jeweiThe texts spoke of an ancient guardian tied to the Jewel of Light. A protector no, a curse bearer. One who fell from grace when the first pact between humans and wolves was broken centuries ago.And I, somehow, had triggered that story’s next chapter. But why? What made me different? Why had the jewel called to me?The door creaked open behind me.I turned instantly, muscles tense, wolf alert. But it wasn’t an intruder. It was Vimon. She didn’t speak right away. Just stepped inside and shut the door behind her with a soft thud.“I know you’re not okay,” she said quietly.I bit my lip, fighting the urge to cry again. I was so tired of crying.“I don’t want to talk about him.”“I wasn’t going to bring him up,” she said, walking closer. “I came because I found something.”She reached into the folds of her cloak and pulled out a small, jagged shard blue, glowing faintly. My breath caught.“That’s from the jewel,” I whispered.Vimon nodded. “And it reek
Aegon’s POVThe scent of blood still lingered in the air.Not fresh… but recent enough to haunt me.I stood at the edge of the hallway where Ingrid had stumbled into the house just hours ago, shaken, pale, her eyes glazed with a kind of fear I hadn’t seen in her since the war with the rogue packs. And she hadn’t said much not really. Just parts and Pieces. The library.A man.A shadow.A voice she recognized but couldn’t name. She had trembled in my arms, and for once… she hadn’t pulled away. But now, as the full moon drew closer, so did the weight of my failures. The cracks I had put in her. The pain I had inflicted, knowingly and not. It was in the way she winced when she moved. The way her voice wavered when she said she didn’t see his face. And gods help me, it was in the way she didn’t look at me when she passed by.“Alpha.” Nico’s voice snapped me out of the trance. He stood at the end of the hallway, brows furrowed, jaw clenched tight. “We need to talk.”I gave a curt nod and f
The Shattering ThreadAegon’s POVThe moon had begun its silent climb, inching over the horizon with a dreadful glow, tainting the clouds with shades of blood and silver. Even before I saw it, I felt it. The pull. The pressure in my chest that intensified with every breath. The pack was restless wolves pacing, growling lowly under their breath, instincts sharpening.I stood at the balcony, the stone cold beneath my palms, eyes fixed on the treetops beyond the palace walls. Hoia Baciu was cloaked in fog and shadow, as though it too braced itself for what was coming. The air was thick, electric. And I knew we were out of time.A low knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts. I didn’t have to turn around to know it was Nico.“She’s not getting any better,” he said, his voice quiet but heavy with urgency. “And if tonight really is what we think it is... we might lose her.”My fingers clenched against the stone.“I won’t let that happen,” I said, but even to my own ears, the promise fel
The Calm Before the StormAegon POV The air had changed. It carried a strange pressure, thick like fog yet dry like ash. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, unsettled. I stood by the window, watching the moon slowly climb, not yet full but dangerously close.I could feel it tonight would be different.Theo lay asleep in the other room. For his sake, I hoped nothing happened. But deep down, I knew hope was a luxury none of us could afford anymore. There was something coming. Something ancient and Something dark.IngridI felt the pulse before I saw the moon.It throbbed in my chest like a second heartbeat, louder than blood, louder than breath. I gripped the windowsill, the cold biting into my palms. Something was wrong.I wasn’t just afraid, I was being warned.Whispers curled through the corners of my mind. Not words, not exactly just echoes of pleas Screams. The Jewel of Light hummed from wherever it was hidden, responding to the rise of the full moon. I didn’t know what it meant but
