Chapter 7: What Were You Two Doing?

Dimitri’s POV

Where the hell is my second hand? I asked him to come to the apartment, but as soon as I entered, I didn’t freaking see him!

“Sasha?! Where the hell are you?”

He immediately came out, but his face was… red.

“Why are you so flustered?”

“I’m not. So, do we need to leave?” He was changing the subject. “I thought you wanted to stay here tonight.”

I scoffed. “With that woman in this house? No, I want to fuck someone today. I’ve been out of action for too long.”

His fists clenched at his sides.

“Your wife is here.”

“And you know I don’t like her, but… you may have a point. She isn’t that bad to fuck,” His hands started to tremble. “Don’t tell me you have a soft spot for my wife.”

“I don’t.” Yeah, that wasn’t convincing.

“Very well, then it wouldn’t matter if I do this, right?” I had to see if my intuition was right, and it was almost always on point. “Lyrien!”

She emerged from the same room Sasha did a minute ago.

“What were you doing?” Her eyes widened at the question as she glanced at Sasha. “Were you with him?”

"N- n- no," she stuttered. "I was cleaning and cooking."

I narrowed my eyes. Her cheeks were flushed, and she refused to meet my gaze for more than a second.

I folded my arms. "So, what were you two doing when I came here?”

"I-I was in the kitchen."

"Alone?"

"...Yes."

I looked at Sasha. "And you?"

"I was reviewing tomorrow's schedule."

"In my apartment?"

"You told me to stay here." The bastard knew what to say. Still, something felt off, and I didn’t like it. Not because I actually cared what my so-called wife did, because I didn’t, but because someone was daring to put their hands on something that belonged to me.

"You two are terrible liars."

Lyrien sucked a breath, while Sasha only gave me a bored stare.

“Let’s go, and that includes you, Lyrien. The old man asked you to be there,” I was lying, but I had to see what she did next.

“Alpha, that’s not true,” Sasha said before Lyrien could even move a finger. “Your father is not available tonight either.”

“Is that so?” The breath of relief that Lyrien let out was evident. “So, you want to stay here?”

He shrugged. “I’m at your disposal.”

“So… if I told you to fuck my wife—”

“Enough, Alpha,” he cut me off. “That is rude to the woman who is our Luna.”

I laughed. "So now you're defending her."

"I'm defending common sense."

"Is that what we're calling it?"

He sighed through his nose. "I've known you for years."

"And?"

"You tend to jump to conclusions."

"I tend to be right." My intuition never failed me, and the only time I didn’t listen, I was in a coma.

"Not always."

I took a slow step toward him. “Tell me I’m wrong then. That you harbor no feelings for that woman. That if I asked you to dispose of her, you would do it.”

“I can’t.” Of course he can’t. He already feels something for that bitch. “Because she is a good person. Lyrien hasn’t done anything for you to hate her as you do.”

“Does being my father’s puppet not count?”

“No, it doesn’t,” he said sternly.

"You like her." The words slipped out before I could stop them.

The apartment fell completely silent. Lyrien's eyes became enormous. Sasha blinked once. Then twice. Finally, he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I cannot believe that's the conclusion you reached."

"So, it's true."

"It isn't." He was blushing, the freaking liar.

“Very well,” I said, before cutting the distance. I wrapped my hand around Lyrien’s neck and pushed her against the wall.

She immediately tried to claw my hand away, but all I did was increase the pressure. Sasha was about to move, but he stopped himself.

“So, since I’m not touching you, you’re already spreading your legs for someone else,” I growled against her ear.

“Dimitri, stop this,” Sasha had dropped my title.

I laughed hollowly. “See? You can’t even see her in pain. Is she that good in bed? Is that why you’re acting like this? Because she is a good fuck?”

“We’ve never done anything besides talking.”

I glanced at Lyrien; her face was already turning blue. “Then do it.”

I threw her in his arms. Sasha caught her before she fell to the ground, but instead of glaring at me, she lowered her head.

I couldn't understand it. I'd met plenty of women. Confident women. Ambitious women. Women who would've thrown a glass at my head after half the things I'd said.

Lyrien simply...

Accepted them. It was infuriating.

“Stop it!”

“NO!” I roared, already finding a chair for me to sit. “Kiss her. Let’s see what you two do. Oh, and if you don’t do it. I’m killing her. Tonight.”

Lyrien’s eyes widened like a deer. She was horrified, but not because of the reasons I wanted her to. I didn’t see disgust when she looked at Sasha.

Why?

"Well?" I drawled, leaning back in the chair. "I'm waiting."

The apartment was so quiet I could hear Lyrien struggling to catch her breath after I'd released her. Saha’s jaw was clenched so tightly I thought his teeth might crack.

"You've gone too far."

I laughed. "Have I?"

"You know I would never betray you."

"Then prove it."

His eyes narrowed. “This would prove nothing. What do you even want to see with this?”

I spread my arms. "Simple choice." I pointed lazily toward Lyrien. "Do what I said..." Then I pointed at the front door. "...or I'll drag her downstairs myself."

Lyrien finally found her voice. "P-Please..."

Both Sasha and I looked at her, but she wasn’t staring at me. Lyrien was looking at Sasha.

"Don't." Her voice shook.

"Don't argue with him. Sasha doesn’t have a fucking choice. I’m the one you should be begging for help. Not him.”

“Ple-please…”

“You don’t have to do that, Lyrien. He isn’t himself. I’ll talk to him; you should return to your room.”

I stood so abruptly the chair scraped violently across the floor. “DON’T YOU DARE MOVE A MUSCLE.”

She flinched. Why was she always like that with me? Why isn’t she smiling? Why doesn’t she tell me anything?

“Leave, Sasha,” I ordered.

He didn’t move a single muscle.

“LEAVE!” This time I used an Alpha command, making sure he couldn’t go against my word.

Of course, he wasn’t happy, but in the end, he had to oblige.

The moment the door closed, I cut the distance between Lyrien and me.

She stood frozen against the wall, her chest rising and falling too fast, those wide eyes locked on me like I was some kind of monster. Maybe I was. But right then, all I could think about was wiping that look off her face—the one that said she’d rather run to Sasha than deal with me. My hand shot out, fingers tangling in her hair as I yanked her forward.

“Enough games,” I growled, and crushed my mouth to hers.

The kiss wasn’t gentle. It was raw, demanding, like I needed to brand her as mine right there in the middle of the apartment. Her lips were soft, warmer than I expected, and for a split second she stiffened—then something in her gave.

A tiny, involuntary sound escaped her, and that was all it took.

My wolf surged forward, howling with pure, unfiltered joy. The bastard sounded delirious, like this was the best damn thing that had ever happened. I nearly pulled back in shock.

What the hell? This woman wasn’t even our mate. She was my father’s puppet. Most likely a spy to get me to do whatever the fuck he wanted, but right now…

I didn’t care. Her smooth skin, her curves, her lips, her scent… I lost myself in it.

My hands moved on their own, sliding down her sides, roaming over her waist, pulling her closer until there wasn’t an inch of space between us. She was soft, responsive in a way that made my head spin. One of my palms drifted lower, gripping her hip—

A soft moan slipped from her throat.

The sound hit me like a bucket of ice water.

What the fuck was I doing?

I shoved her away hard enough that she stumbled back against the wall, breathing ragged. My chest heaved, heart pounding as I’d just run a marathon.

“Get out,” I snarled, voice rough. “Go to your room. Now.”

Lyrien stared at me, lips swollen, cheeks flushed. She looked dazed, confused—maybe even hurt, but didn’t argue. She never did.

I watched her go, fists clenched at my sides. The apartment felt too damn silent once her door clicked shut.

I dragged a hand through my hair, cursing under my breath. Sasha. Lyrien. This whole fucked-up situation. I needed to get out of here. Find someone who didn’t make me lose control like that.

But even as I thought it, my eyes kept drifting toward her closed door.

"This young lady took care of you, Alpha, and thanks to her, you had a speedy recovery," The doctor said, packing away the last of his instruments with a satisfied nod. He glanced between us, oblivious to the storm brewing in the room. "The fever broke faster than I expected. Keep up the fluids, rest, and monitor that scar. If anything changes, please give me a call!I stood awkwardly near the window, arms wrapped around myself.Dimitri sat propped against the headboard now, looking less like death and more like the powerful alpha he was. Sweat had dried on his skin, his dark blond hair tousled and damp. The black t-shirt clung to his broad chest, the silver scar visible where the fabric rode up. His blue eyes flicked to me, unreadable at first, then narrowed with irritation."Speedy recovery?" he echoed, voice still hoarse but gaining strength. A bitter scoff escaped him. "Don't paint her as some saint, doc. The stray probably just wanted to make sure her meal ticket didn't die befor

I make sure not to get in his way anymore. But today, the house was too quiet for some reason.I quickly tiptoed my way to the kitchen and fixed myself a quick breakfast. I didn't want him to wake up and insult me again. But I'm not a plant; I can live without air, so I took this chance.Since it's Saturday, Sasha won't arrive until noon, and the nurse won't even come.Once I was done, I returned to my room, but then I noticed something...I couldn't hear anything from Dimitri's room, and although that should be a relief for me... it was worrisome. He was usually up by now.I first knocked on the door. Softly. Hesitantly. The sound barely echoed in the heavy silence of the apartment. No answer. My wolf stirred uneasily in the back of my mind, a low whine building in her throat. "Mate. Hurt?" I shoved the thought away, telling myself it was just paranoia.Dimitri was probably sleeping in, or ignoring me

I knew he wasn’t kidding about making my life miserable. My wolf whimpered and retreated to the back of my mind. That wasn’t how things were supposed to work between mates. But it was clear he didn’t see me as his.“She’s not a stray,” Alexi said flatly, stepping between us. “Lyrien might not be from a respectable family, but she is a hybrid. That will help produce a strong pup. Besides, the marriage already happened. You can’t do anything about it.”Dimitri stopped pacing. He ran a hand through his disheveled dark hair, then slowly turned to glare at me. “So that’s how it is. You allowed this gold digger into my house. You let an abomination become my wife… for a pup?!” His growl shook the entire room.I whimpered again. I had nothing to say.“I gave you enough time to have one, and you didn’t care about my warnings,” Alexi said, shrugging. “Now

I didn’t sleep at all. Every time I crept toward Dimitri’s door, my hand hovered over the handle before I chickened out and backed away. What if he remembered? What if Alexi found out? The thought made me sick. What I’d done last night was unforgivable, heat or not. I buried my face in my hands. Even my wolf had gone completely silent. The apartment stayed eerily quiet. No calls. No Alexi. No nurse or Sasha. By noon, the waiting was torture. I sat on my bed, hugging my knees.Just punish me already. Anything is better than this.A soft growl slipped from my throat. I hated feeling trapped. Hated feeling powerless. Then the front door opened. Footsteps. Not Alexi’s heavy ones. The nurse.I stayed hidden, listening. Her voice drifted down the hall—serious, on the phone.“…yes, Mr. Romanov… stable… no significant changes…”A loud crash made me jump.

I must have hallucinated the whole thing. Because when I slipped back into Dimitri’s room the next morning, he lay exactly as before—motionless, machines beeping steadily.“Did I imagine it?” I whispered. My wolf whimpered. "Mate."“No, absolutely not."I crossed my arms, staring at him suspiciously. Those icy blue eyes yesterday… the tiny twitch of his eyebrow. It had felt so real. But now? Nothing.“That’s it. Isolation has finally broken me,” I muttered. “I’ve officially gone crazy.”The apartment door opened. Familiar footsteps. The nurse entered with her supplies, her face souring the second she saw me.“Move.”No greeting. No manners. I rolled my eyes but stood aside.I watched her work for a moment before curiosity won. “Can I ask you something?”“Depends.”“Is it possible for someone in his condition to just… open their eyes?”She froze, then slowly turned. “What did you say?”“I asked if he could open his eyes.”“No.” She replied flatly.“But—”“Mr. Romanov has been in a coma
