Chapter twenty-three

Skylar

I woke, cuddled with Kennedy in half leopard form. She was still asleep and I saw it was well past dinner time. I nuzzle my cheek against her shoulder, purring and she looks back at me with sleepy eyes. I feel Samantha's pull gets stronger as she quietly opens the door.

She sees we're awake and smiles lightly. "The kitchen is empty if you wish to eat. I asked that you both be left alone to rest," she says in a soothing tone and turns to leave the room.

"Samantha," Kennedy says quietly, switching back to her human form and Samantha turns back to look at her. "Thank you."

Samantha bows her head and leaves the room. I help her out of bed and we head down to the kitchen. There was food already waiting for us and I could feel how relieved Kennedy felt. I kissed her temple and made her a plate as she sat in the corner of the dining room. She won't sit with her back exposed and needs to see who approaches her
