The girl looking at me in the mirror was troubled. She was a warrior, not a fucking princess. They did not train her to sit behind a desk and plan parties, but her old fashion mate believed she needed to be. Piercy was technically 25 years old. Even though he looked closer to 30, his shaggy blonde hair and very square jaw stirred something on me I kept pushed down. Every day I dreamed of his tatted fingers entering my body. Catching that itch that I can’t do myself. I couldn’t give in. I couldn’t be the luna he wanted, and that destroyed me.
Still, I laid down my rules if he wanted me to follow him to his pack. First one, get Maddox and Cade to trust him. He wasn’t an Allie of either of them, so I was immediately skeptical. Second, he had to be okay with me fighting. Third, Tatum needed to approve. Piercy said he won’t let females fight. After everything we been through with Tatum, he still told me he didn’t know he could allow it.
Knock! Knock!
Fuck, if this was Piercy again, I was going to lose it. Ripping the door open, I was ready to let him have it.
“Cade?”
“Can we talk?” He raised an eyebrow at my attitude.
“I mean, you are the alpha.” I said as I stepped aside, it was fun watching his eyes roll as he walked in.
“Attitude, Brett.” He growled, but it never bothered me.
Shutting the door, Cade took a few steps towards my boxes before he hesitated. “What do you want?”
“Why are you so bitchy with me?” Cade turned to look at me. “I literally walked in here.”
“You never come see me. I’m not expecting good news.”
“You are leaving tomorrow. I assumed you wanted to switch packs.”
“Excited to get rid of me?” It stung more than I cared to admit.
Cade opened his mouth, but stopped himself. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Fucking hell.” Cade pushed his alpha aura on me, making me fall to the ground. It turned my neck at a painful angle. “Tell me the truth. What the fuck is wrong?”
“Everything! Fucking you. I’m so mad at you!”
“Me?” Cade pulled the aura back. My pride just took a fucking hit, and he wanted to offer me a hand?
Slapping it away, I jumped up. “What did I do to you?”
“What didn’t you do?” Now the doors were open, it all came out. “I had no one growing up but Tatum. My dad was Kyle’s beta. He might have died a year ago, but he wasn’t a dad. Tatum was there for me. I tried to be another sister to you. I tried to be your best warrior, so you finally accepted me. I saved Tatum as a child, and all I got was blamed. If Tatum did anything bad, it was my fault. I took it because of your dad, but I took it. I took it because she was my only true friend, and I had to. You never saw me, never accepted me, and never fought for me. You barely stood up to Piercy. You moved mountains for Tatum, but tossed me to him and said, figure it out. You don’t care how I feel about living with him. No, you came here to finally get rid of me. Even after I got Tatum out of that house, I’m still not good enough for you.” My rant ended, but Cade didn’t speak for a moment. “Can you please leave, Alpha? I’m tired and would like to go to bed.”
Taking a few steps to the door, it opened quicker than I expected. Piercy stood on the other side, partly falling in from the sudden movement. “Cade?” He looked at my face. “What’s going on?” “I came to ask
Brett about switching packs.” Cade stood up straight as he looked at Piercy.
“Ah, well…” Piercy sighed, “Maybe we can do that tomorrow? I would like to talk to Brett, please.”
“Sure.” Cade didn’t look at me as he walked out. Only put his hand on Piercy’s shoulder and closed the door behind him.
“Is that really what he wanted?” Piercy sighed and sat down.
“It is.” Pushing my feelings down, I just looked at this man. “We already talked, so what is it you want?”
“I decided I didn’t like how it ended.”
“Shocker.” Rolling my eyes, I just sat down across the room from him.
“I’m serious, Brett.”
“Piercy, we haven’t had a personal conversation in a month. The only thing we have discussed is protecting the twins, fighting about me fighting and what Maddox and Tate dealt with. The only time I have seen any form of emotion from you was after I got kidnapped. Otherwise, you barge into my room and demand I change my way.”
His jaw flexed as I fought him. Something that made my panties wet, but I learned how to hide it. “I did what you asked. I protected the twins and they are both my allies.”
“Do you even like them?”
Piercy snorted. “Like them? I’m not a girl, but yeah, they are cool from what I know of them.”
“Look, I’m meeting you halfway. I told you I would come to your pack if you did what I asked. You did, so I’m coming, but I’m not switching packs until I decide if I’m staying.”
This was the same argument we have had over and over. Putting my face in my hands, I just groaned in frustration. I wasn’t looking forward to leaving. Go to a pack where women need to be silent? Fuck that. Yet, here I am. Doing exactly that.
“Spend the night with me.” Piercy leaned forward. His elbows were on his knees. “Stay with me. We can watch a movie and eat popcorn. Just spend the rest of the evening together.” Looking up, his stupid face was giving me that half smile that made my knees shake. “Please?”
I remember the feel of his lips on mine and I wanted that. We haven’t went past that. Shit, I haven’t even spent a night in his bed. “We can start with a movie.”
“I might enjoy that book and given what you like, you might too.” I said, smirking at him. “Love the Unexpected?” I asked, looking at him. “It’s about two people that were dealt a bad hand, but learned to love each other despite all that was against them. You were right when you told me I wouldn’t have picked you if it wasn’t for the mate bond. You have a mouth on you and you are a fighter. The Moon Goddess knew what she was doing when she gave me you. You were everything I didn’t know I needed. You have made me a better man. I’m proud to stand beside you. I’m so lucky to have you.” I knew he wouldn’t have picked me, but I also knew he loved me. It was a weird complex feeling, but the sincerity in his voice told me he truly meant every word. His hands grabbed my face. Looking deep into my eyes, he kissed me softly for a few seconds before he pulled back. “Let’s check out and keep going.” “Okay.” Piercy grabbed our books and paid for them. Holding his arm, we walked out and kept g
“Oh?” I asked as I put the last of the cookie in my mouth. “Yes.” Piercy grabbed a door handle and opened it for me. By the time I paid attention to where I was, I forgot how to swallow. Piercy had to push me the rest of the way inside.“Wh-” Tears filled my eyes as I tried to swallow the cookie from how dry my mouth just got.“Good evening, Mr. Piercy.” A tiny man with the name tag, Manager, walked up to us. “You are right on time.” “Thank you for making the accommodations for me.” Piercy took my coffee and set it down on a small table at the front door. He put his down before he turned towards me. “Brett.” Piercy put his hand on my back and pushed me forward. This was a very high end jewelry store. The glass counter tops were lined with rings. Women were dressed in all black, standing in front of a dozen of rings. “I set this up and had the store shut down for you to look through it. All these are custom designs and one of a kind. Angel’s is known for their quality and hand made s
I didn’t mean for my voice to sound bitchy, but it did. “I mean, it’s obvious that you slept with Isaac. If he gets to come, why can’t I?” Isaac died laughing. “I never touched a fucking hair on her head. Fuck that. My balls would have been cut off. No. She is one of the guys… just fuck no.” “I think maybe it’s time you went to bed?” I said, looking at David. “I think you are right.” He nodded and pushed Erica towards the door. “Brett, why must you have drama?” Beau gave me a tired look.“Oh, fuck off.” Rolling my eyes, I finished my drink and set it down on the table. “It’s not my drama.” Looking at Isaac, I had to smile. “I never once thought of you in that way. Besides, you had a different girl on your arm each night.” “HEY!” Cassidy looked hurt.“I’m sorry, girl. I am generally a very nice person, but there are only so many times I can meet a new girl on his arm before I stop trying. Maybe if he keeps you around for more than a week.” Shrugging, Isaac tried to push me, but Pi
“I’m good. Kicked the habit.” I teased as Piercy waved one off.“Bullshit.” Isaac gave me a look. “The girl I knew wouldn’t turn one down.” “The girl you knew wasn’t a luna before.” I pushed back. I noticed Beau got up and walked back inside. “Piercy, are you keeping Brett from smoking?” Isaac laughed and took a deep puff.“Naw, man.” He laughed. “You can tell them if you want.” I said in the mind-link. “I-” Something nudged my arm. Beau was back with a drink for me. “Thank you.” “Seriously, Brett. Are you okay?” Isaac leaned forward. “You look like you lost weight.” Piercy let out a little growl at that. “I have. Have you heard of all the shit that Cade and Maddox had with Kyle?” “I did. That shit made headlines.” Isaac and Davin nodded. “Yeah, well. I was shot twice. Most recently, I was going for a helicopter ride and it crashed. A piece of metal went through my side and I lost a kidney to infection before I could get rescued. So, I have one kidney.” Isaac’s jaw dropped. “D
Damn. “Thank you.” Accepting it. I just twirled it in my hands.“If you excuse us, I need to make my rounds.” Peircy gave a pointed look at Gavin before pulling me away from them. As soon as we were out of eyesight, Piercy handed the wine to a server. “Need to make rounds, huh?” “It wasn’t a complete lie.” Piercy smiled at me, but pulled me to a group of men that I wasn’t wanting to socialize with. “Hey, Piercy.” Landon nodded at me. “Shit, if only Maddox and Cade were here, we could have the whole fucking meeting now.” Kevin grumbled. “They never come to these. Even their dads stayed home.” Jackson shrugged. “How have you guys been since everything?” “Oh, fine.” I shrugged. “Just building those muscles back up.” “That’s good. Are you enjoying a change of scenery?” Landon smiled at me. “I am. The mountains are beautiful. Unforgiving, but beautiful.” They all laughed at that. “Very true.” Kevin sighed. “Excuse me, I see my lady standing by herself.” Poor woman to be mated to
“I think it just pissed her off more than hurt her.” Piercy gave me a half smile. I just gave him a look. He wasn’t wrong. “It was you that almost died.” I tossed back in his face. Daring him to argue. David’s laugh kept us from answering as the doors opened. “Excuse my brother, he likes war stories.” Erica tried to drag him out, but he wasn’t having it. “Something we have in common.” I had to smirk. If I was going to be forced to break bread with her, I was going to put on a show. “Let’s find our seats.” Gavin pointed to the workers, trying to get our attention. Brittany got our cards and held them out to us. “Oh, look! Same table!” David showed us his card and Erica looked at her feet. Fucking, wonderful. Thankfully, Beau put Stacy next to me and then sat down. Gavin sat beside Piercy and Brittany was next to Erica. Finishing the circle, David and Simon. “I ordered a few bottles of red for us.” David looked at Piercy. “So, how are you, man?” Piercy put his hand on my thigh.
“Maddox. Just wanted to make sure he left on time to get us. I guess it was time to feed the twins.” “Poor guys. I hope the little ones are doing good.” “I think so.” Piercy started playing with my hair. “Did you sleep good?” “I did. Did you sleep? Neither one of us got any sleep last night.” I
“Why is this a big deal?” Piercy asked me.“I… normally… have a very bubbly personality. I love being in a social setting. I love talking to people and giving hugs. Touching is one of my love languages and you want me to keep my hands to myself. I’m a very touchy person, who has a mate that refuses
“Um, no, Luna. We just killed five guys. Maybe you were seeing double?” My wolf flashed in my eyes and my hands folding into balls. “Piercy, I’m fucking tell you. There was seven guys. One guy had a long grayish beard that went to his chest and ear length brown hair. Then the second guy had hair t
“Is that what you like?” “I’ve never been afraid of blood.” The words were barely out of my mouth when Piercy slammed his lips against mine. “Be a good girl and I might just grant you your wish.” Piercy pushed away from me, looking at what he accomplished. “Fucking asshole.” Rolling my eyes, I s
