Chapter 5
I lived quietly with Shena while we attempted to work at the dump site. Despite the fact that our financial situation is not luxurious, we are content with what we have. When our income is low, we often look for alternative sources of income, such as helping Mrs. Vikki plant her land.
Mrs. Vikki is so generous because, in addition to allowing us to work on her property, she frequently feeds us at her home. Perhaps because she has no other family. She is a widow, and her children have their own families, so she has no other worries in life.
"You have a large estate, Mrs. Vikki! Didn't you think about just selling it to help you more?" I inquired as we ate happily in Mrs. Vikki's large dining area.
"Amara, you're still young; you won't understand what adults think!" Shena cut me off. I laughed at her.
"You're only two years older than me; how can you claim to understand adult minds?" I snorted. We came to a halt when we heard Mrs. Vikki laugh. Mrs. Vikki is a beautiful fat woman, and I admire her kindness. I believe I have discovered a mother's personality in her.
"This land... is the only memory my husband left me," Mrs. Vikki said as she finished laughing. Shena and I were both taken aback. We looked at Mrs. Vikki, who had a sad look in her eyes. I feel a little guilty because I considered asking that question.
"I loved him so much that selling it breaks me," she added. I bit my lower lip and looked out at the vast expanse of land in front of us. Mrs. Vikki was deeply attached to this land because of her beloved husband. It is true, as I read in the trashed books, that the love of wolves like us is eternal and endless.
Our mate bond is not the same as human love. If humans can love again after their first, wolves like us can't take it anymore. Even after death, our connection, bond, and love will remain strong.
That's why I couldn't get it out of my head on the way home with Shena.
"Shena," I said to my friend. She turned to face me right away. The moon can now be seen in its half-light. That is why, even without two torches, we can see the path clearly.
"You're seventeen now, which means you'll know who your mate is when you're eighteen. Are you excited?" I asked. When she came to a halt, I came to a halt as well. She raised her eyes to the half-moon in the night sky.
"The truth is... I'm concerned, Amara," she said. I fixed my gaze on her. Is she concerned? Female wolves, like us, usually wait until they reach the age of eighteen because this is when they can easily find a mate. So I'm not sure why Shena is concerned about this.
"Why are you concerned?" I inquired. She lowered her gaze to mine.
"I'm worried about you; you'll be alone when I find my mate, and I don't want you to be alone, Amara," she admitted sadly. As she spoke, I remained silent. I felt a pain in my chest because I had only recently realized the implications of her finding her mate. She is correct. I can't believe I'm still following her even though she's married. I'm not as young as I once was. I'm not the crying, hopeless 10-year-old girl.
"Are you crazy? You don't have to worry about me! I'm no longer a child; I can handle myself, Shena," I assured her. Even though I knew she was still sad, she smiled at me.
"You're not just a best friend to me, Amara; I treated you like my real younger sister, so no matter what happens, we'll always see each other, okay?" She looked me in the eyes. I nodded in agreement because I couldn't stand being apart from her for long.
"How about you? Do you still think the prince will be your mate?" she joked. I averted my gaze and laughed at what she said. I've always liked the prince since I saw him when I was twelve years old. That's why Shena knows how much I like the prince, despite the fact that we're all aware of the negative rumors about him.
"But it's an impossible dream," I said, dismissively. She ruined my hair.
"Good thing you know, because the Moon Goddess has very high expectations for the royals, and pairing them with a nobody like us would be a disgrace to them," Shena explained. Shena's words stayed with me.
I don't even blame the Moon Goddess for my current situation, but I also know that matching me with Prince Greyson is not in her plans. That's why I could only admire him from afar.
The way he steered his horse, the way his ponytailed hair danced while he walked, the way his ocean-blue eyes stared coldly at his surroundings, and the way his mischievous lips parted while he spoke
But everything went wrong in an instant because of me.
While I was waiting for Shena outside, I noticed Prince Greyson and his butler Miguel walking through the market. I forced myself to focus even one eye on the prince because I was so eager to see him. But desperation turned into tragedy.
I ran into an elderly gentleman who appeared to be wealthy. I can see how his gaze was drawn to me. I wanted to fly out of fear, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"Wait," the elderly man said. I tried to break free from his grip, but he was too strong.
"Didn't you steal something from me?" he asked, smiling. Because I knew this, my nervousness agitated my chest even more. This is what happened to a friend of mine who also works at the dump. She didn't steal anything, but an old man accused her, and she became the old man's slave as a result. And I know they aren't simply slaves. Women are being turned into sex slaves!
"I didn't steal anything!" " I ask. His grin was terrifying.
"No... you stole something from me; capture her!" he orders his men. I'm very concerned about what's going on. My tears streamed down my cheeks. I took a deep breath and was about to defend myself when I became silent about who had arrived. It was Shena. I avoided looking at her.
"What's going on here, sir?" Shena inquired politely.
"She stole something from me, and I know you can't pay for it," the old man explained. The way he looks at me makes me sick. That perspective is not new to me. Shena used to compliment my looks. I don't believe her because I, too, am a poor person. Shena suggested that because of my eyes, I might have a rare gene. It was a bright green color. She stated that the Green Eyes clan is uncommon and new to the North Snow kingdom.
"Do you have proof that she actually stole it from you, sir?" Shena inquired boldly. I shook my head and parted my lips. Shena understands that there is nothing we can do about what is going on. This man appears to be powerful. We're not going to stand a chance. My eyes welled up with tears.
"You little son of a bitch! Are you telling me I'm lying?" the old man snarled angrily. I shook my head and looked at Shena. I just wanted Shena to stop this time. If this is my fate, I will not complain. It's entirely my fault. Everything could get worse if Shena got involved.
"No, I'm telling you to provide evidence for us to believe she stole something from you." Shena ignored me and continued.
Please, Shena, just leave.
"You're trying my patience, aren't you? No matter what you say, she'll be my slave unless... you're willing to sacrifice yourself for her," the old man said, grinning even more. No! Perhaps the old man liked Shena even more because of her bravery!
"No! Please...just take me!" I cried, shaking my head at Shena, but she was cold. I can't understand her. I can only see her expressionless face.
"Then take me and let go of her," Shena declared confidently. My eyes widened as my chest hurt. I shook my head quickly, but it was too late. The old man's men apprehended Shena and set me free.
"No! No! Shena! Please! Just take me! Please, Shena! Don't do this!" I can't stop crying because of what's happening, and many people are laughing at us.
"Just be thankful she saves your life, kid; I'm choosing her now because you're just a kid," the man said evilly. As I watched Shena being pulled away from me by the old man, my heart felt like it was breaking. Shena gave me a look. I couldn't see a single tear in her eyes. Her eyes were filled with bravery and comforting whispers. She seemed to be telling me that everything would be fine from now on.
"Shena!" I screamed helplessly until my vision of her vanished. That's the day I resolve to find her no matter what. I'm willing to enter the palace as a housekeeper just to find Shena.
Chapter 6 I nearly went to my knees begging Mrs. Vikki, "Mrs. Vikki, is there no other way for me to enter the palace?” But no matter how much Mrs. Vikki wanted to follow my requests, the timing was simply too harsh because it was not the perfect time for that.I clenched my eyes tight as tears streamed down my face. "I'm sorry, Amara. You know that the palace is in chaos right now, so even the housekeeper is not accepting people. The war between North Snow and Rema was too bloody," said Mrs. Vikki. In that case, it will be difficult for me to save Shena from the hands of that old man.I shook my head. No. I won't let Shena stay in that old man's hands for too long. "I know this is hard for you, Amara, but Shena is strong. I know she can do this. She won't confront this situation if she can't do it." Mrs. Vikki held me tightly.I broke down sobbing, "It's my fault, Mrs. Vikki.” If only I hadn't been crammed to see the prince, all of this wouldn't have happened. If only I hadn't insis
Chapter 7 As I stood there watching the palace's high gate, I took a deep breath. I haven't been to the front of the palace in a long time, but it never ceases to amaze me. If I ever get a job here as a housekeeper, I'll be able to find Shena faster and, well, see Alpha Greyson more often. It's only been a few months since Alpha Greyson took over as Alpha king of the North Snow kingdom after his parents were killed in the war between Rema and North Snow. Despite the extent of the war's devastation, Alpha Greyson quickly devised a plan to rebuild the kingdom. Many people are impressed by his leadership abilities and intelligence."Excuse me?" the five guards stationed at the gate turned to me. I was worried because the two giant wolves with them were also staring at me. Even if I transformed into a wolf, I'm sure I couldn't match the size of these two wolves."Identify yourself," one of them said. I nodded and quickly took out the paper on which I would introduce myself and the invita
Chapter 8Gina escorted me to the room. The three of us will share the same bedroom, and Gina happened to be one of us. The housekeepers' room is in the palace's farthest wing, close to the palace kitchen. Despite the fact that there are three of us in the same room, we have separate beds. I never imagined that my life would change so drastically in such a short period of time. It seems like a long time ago that I was inside a small house with Shena, happily discussing the events of our day.I looked around the room and noticed another of our companions conversing with Gina. She appears to be nice and sweet. Like Gina, she is probably about my age."Hi! My name is Yna. I've also been one of the housekeepers for almost two years now! How about you? What's your name? " She asked cheerfully, and I smiled and accepted her handshake."My name is Amara... Amara Brooks, the new housekeeper," I introduced myself. She nodded and looked at me for a long time. I was a little perplexed. "I'm sorr
Chapter 9I stayed up a little longer because of what happened the night before, but I still insisted on getting up early as Mrs. Clea said. I wore my housekeeping uniform because it was my first day and I didn't want to make a bad impression on anyone, especially Mrs. Clea.I wore my housekeeping uniform. It fits perfectly for me."Why do I have the feeling that whatever you wear suits you?" Gina asked as I scanned myself in the mirror. I smiled and shook my head. "I may believe you, Gina," I joked. "And you'll believe the truth," Yna added. I just shook my head and chuckled. We left the room together just in time to meet Joy and her group. Whenever I'm with Gina and Yna, they always notice everything about me, so I'm getting used to what they say even though most of me doesn’t believe it.I was surprised when Joy looked at me and purposefully rolled her eyes, "Did you see that?" Yna noticed it too! "She rolled her eyes at us!" Gina exclaimed. "It appears that I was the one she rolle
Chapter 10 What I heard and saw astounded me. I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened earlier even while Gina and I were cleaning a room in the palace. I was aware of the rumors about Alpha Greyson being cruel, but I also understand that it is a leader's responsibility to be cruel and strong in the eyes of his subordinates so that no one despises him. However, seeing the truth with my own eyes shocked me. I've long admired the Alpha King for his elegance and intelligence in all aspects of life, but I can't accept that he would sacrifice an innocent life to achieve his goal.I had no idea that knowing the truth could be so painful. But it's funny how, even knowing the truth, I can't stop my heart from loving him. "I noticed you’re quiet the whole time?" Gina inquired."Because I can't get what happened earlier out of my mind," I admitted as I mapped the floor of the room, we were cleaning."Perhaps you're shocked because this is your first step here in the palace, but such a
Chapter 10.1"Fuck!" yelled Alpha Greyson angrily. We all took a look at their sides, and it was amazing how quickly Alpha Greyson removed his vest and clothes! When I saw his masculine and very manly upper extremities, my jaw dropped. He has an extremely detailed body that any woman would kill to touch! Damn it! I shouldn’t be thinking about this! When I saw how the guards held Joan while she cried for forgiveness, I stopped staring at Alpha Greyson's body."Please forgive me, Your Majesty! It will not happen again! Please spare my life and forgive me!" Joan begged as the palace guards held her tightly. I was startled by the coldness seen in Alpha Greyson's eyes.I feel that he is very far away from me. Only now did I truly realize how different he was from the person I thought he was. I just realized that I knew him wrong. Alpha Greyson stepped towards Joan and gripped her jaw tightly. Joan winced and cried."Amara... Bow your head! You shouldn't be seeing this! " Yna said by my sid
Chapter 11 Mrs. Clea quickly snatched me up, went to my room, and shut the door. Yna and Gina were left outside while Mrs. Clea was tense inside our room. "Don't you know how dangerous what you did was, Amara?" Mrs. Clea’s voice was angry. I bit my bottom lip because I knew Mrs. Clea was right. I consider myself fortunate to be alive. Because it's wrong no matter which way you look at it."I'm sorry," I admitted regretfully. I overheard her sighing incongruously. "The last thing Vikki wants you to do, Amara, is get involved with the Alpha King because you know how dangerous he is!" Mrs. Clea said as I bit my lower lip. Is the Alpha King's attitude truly so bad that she fears for my life?"Is he really that cruel, Mrs. Clea?" I asked, looking her in the eyes. I've seen everything earlier, so why don't I believe it now? Is it true that I am so blind to the truth that I refuse to accept everything?Mrs. Clea came up to me. "You are very beautiful, Amara, and this must be one of the reas
Chapter 12 I was trembling as Gina and I walked toward the dining area. I'm not sure what I'm feeling. As I walk behind Gina, my hands are cold and my face is turning pale."Gina..." I called out to my friend. She looked at me. "Why?" she asked, concerned. "Are you nervous? " She obviously asked, and I quickly nodded. She sighed and grabbed both of my shoulders, looking into my eyes."Don't worry, just obey everything the Alpha King wants, and you'll be saved," she preached to me. I'd like to make a complaint. So, what if I want to fight? Even if I'm just a housekeeper, I don't want my personality to be trampled on.The Alpha King should treat his subjects as a treasure, not as slaves! Eventually, I just nodded to Gina. I can't do anything because he's still an Alpha king no matter what. I had no choice but to follow. When we arrived at the dining area, I immediately formed a line with the other housekeepers who were present. I noticed the Alpha King sitting at the head of the long t
