But it was also terrifying, knowing that the entire pack’s eyes would be on me.Madeline’s voice brought me back to the present. “You’ll need to get ready. It’s going to be a grand event. Everyone will be there.”

I nodded feeling a mix of anxiety and joy. Maybe life as the alpha's mate wasn't really going to be that hard. It was pleasure filled, unlike life as the alpha's hidden daughter. Back then, I had to keep up with Natasha and her friend's constant bullying.

To bury the shame I felt whenever my father acknowledge Natasha, my stepsister as his biological daughter and showers her with all the fatherly love that was due to me.

"But that was then Emma, we have our mate now and he is here to protect us," Madeline stated, her words casting a warm hue over my emotions.

I smiled at the realization, a small, private victory in my mind. Alpha Kai, with his cold demeanor and unyielding nature, seemed utterly incapable of love, especially for someone like me. He was a force of nature, a man who commanded respect and fear with a single glance.

I had heard the stories, of course. The tales of his exploits, his iron-fisted rule, and his disdain for weakness. To him, emotions were a liability, something to be suppressed and controlled. He had never shown even a hint of affection or tenderness, not to anyone. It was said that his heart was as cold as the winter nights, and his soul as impenetrable as the fortress walls of our pack.

Yet, despite knowing all this, a part of me couldn't help but wonder. What if, against all odds, there was a flicker of warmth buried deep within him? What if, hidden beneath the layers of his icy exterior, there was a spark of humanity waiting to be ignited? The very thought was absurd, almost laughable. But who does it kill if I wished?
