Pop's secret

Iv been staying with pops for 3 days now and to be quiet honest its been relaxing, pops is easy to live with, he lives alone in a small two-bedroom house overlooking the sea with deep forests behind the house, its peaceful here nobody to disturb you and pops is happy to just go about his day and leave me in peace.

Pops was waiting for me when I turned up, mom had phoned him to let him know i was on my way but he didn't push me to talk see that's the great thing about pops he never pushed, he just let you deal with things in your own way and when you were ready to talk he was there as solid and dependable as ever.

"So baby girl, you ready to talk to me yet?" Pops asks coming to sit beside me on the rock on the beach that I had made my thinking place,

I look at him and smile then take a deep breath and tell him everything about my confused feelings about Luke and the pull I feel towards him, once I finish pops looks at me with a raised eyebrow and says "now come on Darlin what aint you tellin this old man?"

So I tell him about how im confused and about Lukes eyes watching me and how it seemed as though Luke was sniffing me from across the room until eventually, I finish with "see I must be going crazy there's no way he could smell me from across a room, right pops?"

Pops is quiet then he looks me dead in the eyes and says "well princess, some people can if they weren't completely human, "

I scoff "what? Ok pops maybe you're the one going crazy "

"Beth" pop says seriously "there are some things you don't know, þhat you were never told",

Frowning I say "like what?"

"Well werewolves exist and if im honest this Luke boy sounds like he could be a wolf",

"Haha Haha haha haha pops you are so funny" I splutter at him

"Beth" he raises his voice which is unusual for him "now you listen to me and you listen good, if this Luke is showing as much  interest in you as you say he is and he is a wolf then there's a good chance you are his mate and believe me if he touches you, just  one finger on your skin then you will know because you will both feel the mate call but until then you will both fill a strong pull towards each other "

"But pops, wolfs don't exist,"

"Tonight Darlin, we are going to see my friend Jerry".

After dinner pops bundled me into his truck and drove me through the forest to his friend Jerry,i remember Jerry growing up, he was an easy guy who laughed easy and took everything in his stride so I was happy to be wrapped into a big warm hug from him "Beth sweetheart, how are ya?" He bellowed at me

"Hey Jerry "

"Come in come in"

"Hey man" pops said to Jerry 

"Sorry to drop in on you like this I just didn't know how else to get her to believe me ",

I guess pops and Jerry had been having secret conversations about me while I was in the shower earlier, 

"Ok so Beth, you don't think wolves are real?"

I laugh at him "and you do I suppose "

"Well young lady, yes I do and your pops here wants me to show you proof ",

I look at pops then back to Jerry and smirk  "ok the floor is all yours go right ahead " i say sarcastically to Jerry whilst adding a little bow,

Jerry looks at pops who nods then he slowly lifts himself from the chair he was sitting in and goes into the bathroom, I raise my eyes at pops and say "was it something I said?" 

He just raises his hand to me and says "wait"

So  silently we wait then both turn our heads as the bathroom door clicks open and there stands Jerry in a dressing gown, 

"Errr"

"Hush Beth" pops says before I can even consider what my next words will be, 

Jerry looks directly at me and walks towards me then he touches my hair and says "don't be scared Beth honey" before he goes into the middle of the room and stands there quietly, 

Just as I am about to ask what is going on I hear a snapping sound, then Jerry bends over and i hear more snapping and cracking, im too shocked to say anything and im too mesmerized to do anything, I know I should help him but I can't move from my spot on the couch, pops is beside me, watching me, watching my reaction as if he's seen this a thousand times, 

Just the snapping stops and with wide eyes and a face as white as a sheet I see a huge wolf stand and look at me "bu b bu but but"

"It's ok Beth love" pops says,

Just then the wolf walks up to me and presses his nose into my hand, with trembling fingers I lift my hand and run it over the wolf's glossy fur on his head, the wolf raises his head and looks down at me from his full height then he brings his face close to mine and that's when everything goes black.
