Chapter 4: The Dream

“You saw me in your dream?”

Zion didn’t say a thing when I asked. He kept silent and didn’t even bother to look at me. If he saw me in my dream, is that a reason for him to follow me? Or to avoid me?

“There you are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you—Oh, you’re with someone. Hi,” Lizzy greeted Zion who was still quiet.

“Hey,” he greeted her too with a serious face. “Excuse me,” he said before walking away. We watched him as he walked and I saw the smirk on Lizzy’s face.

“I didn’t know you know the word ‘flirting’,” she said to me.

“I don’t. I was asking him something and he just ignored me.” I sighed heavily and crossed my arms on my chest.

“He’s hot, though,” she said, teasing me. I just rolled my eyes when she said that. “Who is he, anyway?” Lizzy asked me.

“His name is Zion. He’s Jace’s uncle,” I answered.

“Oh. It’s not surprising. They have good genes.” Lizzy chuckled.

I was still at school, walking downstairs when I saw someone on the balcony. I know it was Zion because our eyes met but he suddenly walked away. He still hasn’t answered my question so I walked to where I saw him but he was gone.

“I know you’re in here, Zion. Just come out. You owe me an answer.” I made sure that my voice wasn’t that loud. A few seconds passed but I didn’t see Zion. He must’ve gone somewhere already. I turned around and my heart skipped a beat when I saw him standing right in front of me. How the hell did he get here without me hearing any footsteps? I took a deep breath and looked at him. “Will you stop doing that?”

“Doing what?” he asked me in his cold voice.

“Showing up anywhere you want. You could make someone have a heart attack,” I told him.

“It’s not like I do this to anyone else,” he answered. At first, I was confused by what he said but I didn’t bother to understand it anymore. I just wanted to know what did he dream of me because I can’t get it out of my mind.

“Okay so, will you now talk to me?” I immediately asked him.

“I already am,” he answered.

“What is that dream all about?” I asked immediately. “Why does it look like it was very horrible to the point that you can’t even tell me?”

“Yeah, it was horrible.” He leaned his back on the railing of the balcony. “Very horrible,” he added.

“Why? Why is it horrible?” I asked.

He didn’t answer immediately, hesitating whether he should tell me about it or not. “I saw you die. And I was… crying.”

“Why were you crying?” I asked him.

“I don’t know,” he answered, not looking at me. “It was like we had this connection. I don’t know what it is,” he said. I got curious and all with what he just told me. Growing up, my mind thinks that you’ll dream of someone if you think about them often. “That’s all I can provide if I made you curious. Neither do I remember every detail,” he told me.

“I’m not asking for more details. And I guess it happens to everyone, to have weird and unexpected dreams sometimes,” I said to him to assure him that it means nothing.

“Yeah,” he shortly replied before facing me. He was looking at me straight in the eyes, making me feel tense.

“So, uhm. Are you heading home now?” I asked to change the topic and also to break the silence. He didn’t answer so I looked at him and his eyes were traveling down to my shoulder. I saw him swallow like he was a bit nervous. I looked down to see if there was something on my neck but I saw nothing. When I looked back at him, I had a mini heart attack at what I saw. “Your eyes!” I exclaimed.

“What?” he asked before blinking.

“I’m sure that it turned red,” I said, panting. “I saw it, Zion. Are you wearing contact lenses?”

“No, I’m not,” he answered with a serious face.

“Then, what was it? I know what I saw. Your eyes turned red, Zion,” I told him and it doesn’t look like he believes me.

“You’re being delusional, Ivy,” he said to me.

“I’m not—”

I didn’t even have the chance to continue speaking because he walked away. My eyebrows were furrowed until I got home. I went straight to my room and put my bag on the couch. I sat on my bed and leaned on the headboard before taking a deep breath.

I wasn’t being delusional. I saw it, I saw that his eyes turned red for a second.

I just shook my head and tried to get it out of my head. I got the book that I borrowed from the library. I remembered that this book was from Zion, the one he said I’ll like. The main character was a female vampire who had just gotten off of her transition. I’ve read some pages and I stopped when I realized something. Some of the information was familiar to me. I went back to the other pages to read it again.

Speed, strength, strong senses like hearing and smell, and eyes turning red when angry or… hungry for human blood.

It can’t be.

If only she knew how much I wanted to be with and how much I want us to be together. But I can't. With me around her won't guarantee her safety. She was just a normal girl who came in town to start a fresh life in college and here I am, being like a barrier to her path. I want what's best for her and if that's being away, so be it.I was in my room, sitting on my old-fashioned couch with my feet on the coffee table while reading a novel on my hand when Jace came in. He didn't even bother to knock."Hey, uncle. Aren't you going to answer that?" He asked, pertaining to Ivy's phone call while walking towards my shelf which made me a bit confused. Jace doesn't read books."It's none of your business," I sarcastically said while my eyes were still on the book."Woah, rude." He laughed. "Can I borrow this?" He was holding a book tha

I went upstairs and did what Zion told me. I always get nervous with these kinds of situations but I trust Zion. I know that everything he says will always be for the both of us but I can't keep myself from worrying. He didn't look so good earlier. I got my phone and dialed Lizzy. "Hello? Lizzy, thank god you picked up. Can you come over?" I asked her. "What? Why? Are you going to complain again about Zion ghosting you?" "It's much more serious than that," I said. "Okay, chill. You sound different, is everything okay?" She worriedly asked. "I'll explain everything later," I told her. "Okay. Give me five minutes," she said before ending the call. I stood up and checked the windows if someone was there. I assumed Zion told me to lock everything because someone might come after me again, probably James whom I'v
