MISTAKING YOU FOR DESTINY

Chapter 5

Ethan walked out of company and released a breath he didn’t realize he has been holding. He looked around, having accomplished his goal he can now look around and admire the environment. He stared for some minutes before heading to the roadside to board a cab.

As the cab rode, he sighted an ice cream spot by roadside, he stopped the cab man, paid him and alighted. He crossed to the other side of the road where the ice cream spot was. He paid for a chocolate cone as his face brightened, in his past life he had stopped taking chocolate ice cream because Lucien didn’t like it, he had called it childish. After finishing the ice cream, he stayed for a while to enjoy the soft breeze, how much he had missed this.

The cab pulled up in front of Lucien’s apartment, Ethan got down, paid the driver and walked in, he checked his time, it was already 7:00pm. He sighed, he didn’t even realize he took that long at Carlos office. He walked into his room and took off his clothes then scoffed,

“So after helping him instead of a thank you, the first thing he could think of was me calling him an idiot?”

“I didn’t even realize when that left my mouth.” He laughed at himself before heading into the bathroom. After a few minutes he walked out, towel wrapped around his waist and one in his hand which he was using to dry his hair. He got into his pajamas then headed to the kitchen to make something for himself.

After eating, he went back into his room, he grabbed his phone to watch N*****x, he clicked on a random movie and started watching. After an hour he paused it to get popcorn. He littered the room and eventually fell asleep by 11:00pm.

Tires screeched at the driveway, not up to minute after, the door flung open, Lucien walked in, his suit in hand, shirt and hair messy like he just ran a marathon. He stepped into the sitting room expecting to see Ethan, but the sitting room was empty. He walked further into the house and headed upstairs to Ethan’s room to find him peaceful curl on the bed, popcorn littered everywhere and movie still playing on his phone.

“Is he pretending to be asleep or something?” Lucien hissed and slammed the door, and walked to his own room.

—CK EMPIRE, JEWELRY COMPANY—

Carlos was still at the office and this wasn’t his first time, he’s never in a hurry to get home, not like he had someone or something waiting for him at home. He wasn’t working, just sitting on his seat, tapping his fingers on the desk, his brows furrowed, only one thought on his mind, someone called him an idiot, not just anyone but a fragile looking guy, in front of his staffs, in his office. What an audacity.

He let out a dark laugh, he picked up his phone and called his PA, “Be at my office in a minute,” he ordered and without waiting for the response from the other side, he hung up. It wasn’t up to a minute when the door pushed open, his PA walked in and bowed.

“You called for me boss.”

“That crazy guy that was here earlier, look into him for me.” Carlos said without sparing his PA a glance.

“Huh?” His eyes widened.

“Do you need hearing aid?” Carlos voice came out cold.

“No..no sir, I’ll look into him.” His PA said, he waited for a while waiting for Carlos to say something.

“That will be that for now.” Carlos finally said. His PA bowed and walked out, closing the door gently.

Carlos stayed in that position for another thirty minutes, before finally standing up, he picked up his suit from the stand beside him and grabbed his keys to go home, but at the last minute, he changed his mind, he’d just sleep in the office. He walked to the door and placed his palm on the wall, a palm biometric appeared and the wall slid open, revealing a well furnished apartment, a cozy sitting room, Tv, couch and others. He stepped in and the wall closed up, covering every trace of an entrance.

Carlos headed up the stairs and pushed open the door to one of the two room, he threw his suit on the couch in the room, undressed and headed into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, his thoughts went back to Ethan but not him calling him an idiot but how he had actually saved him, tho the fake jewelry would affect him that much but he would be from one conference to another to clear up everything and Ethan actually saved him of that without asking anything in return. And in that moment, he realized he didn’t even tell Ethan a proper thank you.

—THE NEXT DAY, LUCIEN’s APARTMENT—

The sun ray entered the room through the slightly opened curtains and was on Ethan’s face on the bed. He opened his eyes, inhaled and smiled, stretching himself. He got up to the mess he made. He walked into the bathroom to the to do his morning business. In a few minutes he was out, fresh scent on. He threw on a casual top and short, and headed out, straight to the kitchen, he was so hungry.

He got into the kitchen, threw on an apron and whistled happily through out his cooking session, he made bread and eggs with tea. His smile was still on as he rounded up, having a second chance relive his life and now doing what he liked and wanted was a valid reason to be all smiles.

As he finished, he left the food in the kitchen and headed to the room to clean up the popcorn mess he made. After five minutes he was done, he skipped his way down the stairs and headed back to the kitchen. He carried his meal to the dinning area and settled down and started eating. Lucien walked down the stairs, already dressed for work, he paused when he saw the dining table had no extra food on it.

“Where’s my food?” He asked.

“The kitchen is for making food and its that way.” Ethan pointed towards the kitchen without looking up from his food.

—THE NEXT DAY, AFTERNOON—Carlos arrived at Ethan's art studio in the late afternoon, his hands tucked into his pockets as he pushed the door open. He had been thinking about Ethan since their last conversation, and although he had plenty of things occupying his mind, he had decided to check on him.The moment he stepped inside, he noticed that Ethan seemed unusually cheerful. The young artist stood beside his worktable, examining a document with a smile that grew wider each time he read a particular section.Carlos closed the door behind him. "What's that smile for? Did someone finally offer to pay you the amount your talent deserves?"Ethan looked up, and his face brightened when he saw him. "Carlos! You're here.""I can see that. Unless you've started seeing things."Ethan laughed, placing the document on the table. "I have good news."Carlos raised an eyebrow and walked closer. "I'm listening.""I got a major deal." Ethan could barely contain his excitement. "A big company

Two days after Ethan had finally opened up to Carlos about his past, Carlos received an unexpected invitation from Derick Vale. The meeting was scheduled for a private restaurant, a place reserved for wealthy individuals who valued their privacy. There were no reporters waiting outside, no cameras pointed at the entrance, and no media personnel wandering around hoping to catch a glimpse of their guests. Everything about the establishment was designed to offer its patrons the privacy they paid for. When Carlos arrived, Derick was already seated at a table near the windows. A bottle of wine, two glasses, and a bottle of water had been placed on the table, but neither man had touched anything yet.Derick looked up as Carlos approached, his gaze following him until he pulled out the chair opposite him and sat down. There was something particularly watchful about Derick's expression, as though he had been waiting for this conversation long before arranging the meeting.Carlos noticed the l

—AFTERNOON— The afternoon sun filtered through the wide windows of Ethan’s art studio, casting a warm glow over the canvases arranged around the room. A few finished paintings stood against the walls, while others remained on their easels, waiting for the final touches. Ethan sat before one of his unfinished pieces, a paintbrush resting loosely between his fingers as he stared at the canvas without making any effort to continue. He had been like that for a while, barely moving even when he knew there was still work to be done. His encounter with Lucien and Aiden that morning had left an unpleasant feeling in his chest, one he couldn't quite shake off no matter how hard he tried to concentrate on his painting. He had expected their visit to be uncomfortable, but he hadn't anticipated how irritating it would be to have them standing in his studio, looking down on him as though he were still someone they could dismiss whenever they pleased. The thought alone made him

—A MONTH LATER—A month had passed since Ethan Vale walked away from V. Jewels, and for the first time in a long while, his life was beginning to feel like his own.The transition had not been as frightening as he had expected. His family had supported his decision without hesitation, encouraging him to pursue his passion instead of worrying about whether he was making the right choice. His father had reminded him that he didn't need to follow a predetermined path to prove himself, while Derick had offered advice whenever Ethan needed it. They had made it clear that he could always rely on them, but Ethan was determined to build something of his own without depending on his family's name or influence. That determination had led him to rent a small art studio. It wasn't luxurious, but it was everything he needed. The cream-coloured walls reflected the sunlight that streamed through the wide windows, and the wooden shelves were filled with paints, brushes, and other suppl

The V. Jewels anniversary party was already in full swing when Ethan arrived. The venue was filled with executives, business partners, guests, and employees dressed in their finest clothes. Crystal chandeliers illuminated the hall, while soft music played beneath the conversations filling the room. Waiters moved between guests with trays of drinks, and the company’s anniversary decorations stood proudly around the venue.Ethan adjusted his jacket as he stepped inside, taking a moment to appreciate the atmosphere before someone grabbed his arm.“Owen,” he said, looking at his best friend, who had attached himself to him almost immediately. “I’ve been here for less than a minute.”“And I’ve already missed you for that entire minute.”Ethan stared at him before laughing. “You’re being ridiculous.”“I’m being honest. There’s a difference.” Owen tightened his hold on Ethan’s arm, his expression turning unusually serious. “You’re enjoying yourself too much. You look like someone who has alr

—TWO DAYS LATER, V. JEWELS— Ever since his conversation with Carlos, Ethan had been undoubtedly happy; even his colleagues at work couldn't help but notice. His smiles were bigger; he laughed at everything, even the ones that were barely funny, and he had been so effective at his projects that he even helped other colleagues do theirs.Immediately, it was lunch period; he excused himself and headed to Mr. Vale's office. He could swear he had never gone up there since he started working there, as he was trying to avoid eyes on him, eyes like Masson's.He opened the office door and slipped in. Mr. Vale sat behind his desk, eyes focused on his laptop; he looked up, and a smile appeared on his face immediately."Old man." Ethan grinned."Kiddo." Mr. Vale replied with the same expression before the two of them burst out laughing as Ethan took his seat on the couch in the office."How are you, son?" Mr. Vale asked."I'm good, Dad, and you?""Alright." Mr. Vale nodded. "What brin
