"Aish! That shitty guy!" Stella keeps muttering as she walks on the sidewalk.
After she said she'll go on her own, Charles just told her to take care and now she's damn upset about it. He invites her out and leaves her hanging? What kind of man does that? He is a curse!
She inhales deeply, breathing in the air of Deib. Forget about Charles! There is great scenery in front of her, lots of paths and wonders to take on. Charles is nothing! With a bright smile on her face, she explores the streets. There were signs and g****e to help her find spots.
On the beach, the golden color of the sun reflected on the water to the shore. It's the scene she won't get tired of watching over and over again. The last time she saw it, she was letting go of someone. The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?
Stella suddenly remembers about Doctor Akira. She took out her phone and dialed the doctor's number. It was a good thing she saved the number earlier.
"Yellow?" Doctor Akira answered on the fifth ring.
"H-Hi, doctor A-Akira," she stammers. "I-It's Stella."
"Oh, hello, honey! You suddenly changed numbers without telling me. I was worried about you!"
"I'm so sorry, doctor. Things just drastically changed over the past few days but I assure you, I was going to contact you!"
"It's fine!" A sob of laughter came from doctor Akira. "But that guy who answered my call. Was he really your boyfriend? You never told me anything about the father yet."
Stella looked down, nibbling on her lower lip. Should she tell doctor Akira about Charles? There is that feeling that she should tell her doctor about what's happening but at the same time, she didn't want to trust anyone anymore.
"Yes, he is my boyfriend and the father. It's just a little complicated right now, doctor."
"I won't force you to tell me. I am just glad that the father seemed nice and caring. I didn't tell him anything as that's your part, love."
"Thank you, doctor Akira." Yes, she's really grateful that her doctor understands. "And the sickness is bearable. I can fake being all fine now."
"I am glad to know you are doing good. If you want to tell me something just go ahead. Know that you can trust me."
"Doctor, I'm in Deib right now. Tomorrow I'll be flying to another city, further from ours. But I will be back within a month."
"Get me some souvenirs, will you? Take good care of yourself out there."
"Will do."
After the call, Stella decided to take off her shoes and walk on the white sand, feeling them in between her toes. The waves crashing on the shoreline makes her giggle, deciding to go dip her feet.
One day, she would like to own a house near the beach. Her child would run around the sand every sunset and she'd call him or her for cookies and snacks. It's her dream to live a peaceful life.
Just as she turns around, her smile slipped off her face. Her eyes grew large meeting Charles' marble ones. She blinked a couple of times, realizing he was real and then she frowns.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"I can't just let my girlfriend roam around a city she isn't quite familiar with." He took steps closer to her, stopping when she is in front. There was a charming smile plastered on his face. "Especially when you are wearing something like that, looking all beautiful," he added.
Stella flustered, looking sideways. His sweetness might give her heartaches in the near future. Charles is charming and it's easy for him to enchant her. She knows that fact and it keeps reminding her not to look his way.
"There's literally a map on my phone." She rolls her eyes at him. "How the hell did you find me?"
"This." He lifted his hand, showing her his phone screen. "I got a tracker installed in both our phones, baby."
She shifted her gaze at the phone and saw it was real. How could she not have noticed? How is he freakin' doing those things?
"You're creeping me out!" she yells, looking at him disgustingly.
"I don't care. As long as I find you, that's all that matters to me." He lifted his hand, opening his palm for her. "Come on, let's stroll some more."
"What makes you think I would with you?" she asked, throwing him another glare. "I remember you said--"
The fast brush of the wind interrupted Stella and the next thing she knew she is being pulled by Charles. All she could see is his back while he holds her hand.
"You're bitching too much today, baby. It doesn't work on me."
Her forehead creased hearing those words. It's easy for him to handle her. It's obvious from that night that Charles goes messing up with some girl every now and then. Her solution is to ignore him.
They walk the white sands in silence. As the sky show the pastel colors, Stella had to stop and stare. The afterglow in this place is nice. It wasn't golden anymore, they were soft hue.
"My mother never taught me anything but to survive," she out of nowhere uttered. When she realized it, she looks down and tried walking ahead. But Charles stayed, holding her hand tighter.
"They say it's better to open up than bottle it in," he told her. They look at each other, their eyes reflecting on each other's eyes. "I'll be a stranger after a month so why not tell me anything you want?"
Right. Charles is a stranger she happens to stumble on her path with. He made her life more complicated than it was before. And like he said, after a month they'll be strangers again; the more she's not supposed to tell him anything about her.
"Exactly, mister Castigado. The reason why I cannot trust you."
An hour. It takes an hour more and Stella will finally meet the Castigados in person. Well, last night before going to bed she researched them again. They were all big-time people and they look intimidating enough in photos.Stella can't help chewing on her lower lip as she looks outside through the window. With every passing moment, the time is running out. Her hands were sweating, it gets harder to breathe too. She doesn't know if she looks pleasing enough. She's nervous to the bones."You're hand is sweating," Charles told her."I'm sorry." She removed her hand from his and wipe it on her dress. "I'm terrified," she softly said.Charles took her hand again, pressing it which made her gaze up at him. He brought his hand close and kiss the back of her hand. Then he smiled at her."It's fine," he reassures her. "I'll be there with you, okay?"What he said doesn't entirely help her. It's not him that needs an introduction, it's her! The press
In Charles' quarter, Stella breathes in deeply. She has been holding her breath since earlier. They were so welcoming that she felt so good like she was a family member. But at the same time, she felt like it was too good to be real. The fact that she'll be meeting them again at dinner kills her. She hasn't even met the grandparents yet nor the girl cousins. She met his parents and others but they're being too nice.Stella threw herself in the bed, looking all worried at the plain ceiling that he has. Also, his room is big like the suite they stayed in at Deib. Charles' things were also organized and he has a balcony."You okay, baby?"She turns to where Charles is and saw him coming toward her. Then he sits beside her on the bed."If I say I'm not, can I go home?""Absolutely not, baby." He shortly chuckles. "We are home.""This is not my home," she said, rolling her eyes and looking at the ceiling again. "Your family is nice. And I
At the parking lot, Jason and Vanessa stayed in their car to talk. Jason wanted to know about Stella more and how he can make her come to his side."What about Stella?" Vanessa asked. "Did she ask you about me?""No, she didn't mention you nor does she seem to know me at all," he answers. Then he glances at Vanessa who kept her gaze in front. "Obviously this is your fault. And to tell you what's up, Charles introduced Stella as his girlfriend to the family."Vanessa's eyes grew large, staring at him. He could see that she wasn't expecting that news."Yes, it looks like they agreed on something.""But how? Stella would not!""You know her better than I do. I thought you should know the reason.""Stella must have been blackmailed! She's someone who doesn't accept help. She must've been threatened." Vanessa's voice was shaking. She's guilty of setting her up with him.Jason saw how Charles looks at Stella earlier. Someone like Cha
During dinner, Stella would have fallen out of place if it weren't for Jenkins who sat beside her. The others were talking about someone whom she never heard before. They were far from when she was introduced earlier. Now it feels like she's a ghost to them."You gotta get used to this," Jenkins told her. He was holding a fork lazily with meat pinned. "I can relate to you. I've no idea what and who they are talking about. Just laugh when they laugh."The last advice Jenkins said made her hide a laugh. Well, at least there was someone in the mansion she can vibe with."You're not a fan of your family's business, huh?" she whispers to Jenkins."No, not really," he whispers back. "Actually, my dream is to become a professional e-sport player. Quite unique when you're a Castigado.""I could understand the pressure.""I'm not pressured." Jenkins gave Stella a sweet smile. "I know I am going to be the heir. Jason and Charles, they're nowhere near
The next day, at breakfast, Stella met the other ladies of the Castigado. There are four more ladies, two younger than her and two were older. Jennie, Marie, Annie and Trixie. Marie and Stella were almost the same age but Marie was older in months. The list goes with Verna being the oldest, Jennie, Jason, Charles, Marie, Annie, Jenkins and Trixie being twins and are the youngest grandchildren. There are so many of them that Stella would confuse them in her head. Then after breakfast, she was invited by them to sit and have tea near the garden. She didn’t want to but the girls had dragged her already.“Has anyone done their fitting already? If not we ladies should go!” Marie in her sweet yet sassy voice told everyone.“The past days were hectic I could not find time for it!” There goes what Stella thinks is Annie. “I’m in!”
With the moonlight through the open balcony, Charles stares at Stella’s face, a sweet smile plastered on his own. He wasn’t expecting to be home this late. It’s a tiring day but to see Stella sleeping comfortably takes all his stress away.He wanted to get home early and talk about how each of their days went. But his almost a month of absence kept him at his desk. There were just too many this time. Tomorrow is another hectic day. After a while, Charles moved away and walk to the bathroom. He took a quick shower. Just as he got out with only a towel wrapped around his hips, he saw Stella sit up on the bed, rubbing her eyes. Then she looks at him with squinted eyes.“Did I woke you up?” Charles asked softly.“Am I dreaming?” she questions back, scratching her neck, looking around with sleepy eyes. Her reaction made him chuckle.
Jason was just about to climb the staircase when at the first step he saw someone cheap having her lunch by the full-length glass window. Amber eyes were looking outside, perhaps enjoying the splashes of the rain. He bet if it was open, she’d stick her hand out and starts catching some raindrops. It ain’t bad if he talks to her a little. With a lopsided smile on his mouth, he backs away from the stairs and walks towards the peaceful Stella.“You look like the sky today. The only thing missing is the tears!”Stella’s gaze shifted to him, her eyebrows instantly drawn together. The reaction Jason expected so he chuckled as he took the seat in front of her.“What are you doing here?” she asked.“Not even a hello, huh?”“Why, how are you today, Jason? Lovely seeing you!” she acted sweet
Stella was still annoyed by Charles even after dinner. Now, back in their room, she is more irritated that he wants to exchange phones again. To hell would she agree when doctor Akira has his number saved already as hers.“It’s all your fault!” she yells at him.“There’s just something important in my phone that I need!”Facing Charles again, she had her arms folded across her chest, her eyebrows knitted together. “For your information, this is my phone now! You can borrow it but don’t fool your self saying it’s still yours! You abandoned this!”“Abandoned,” he repeated, chuckling softly. “Come on, it’s best if I have my phone back. You won’t act cold to me that way.”“Why would I be cold to you? Stop laughing too!”“If I tell y
