Chapter 1

The lawyer's complaint landed squarely on my mother, Fiona Kensington's face before floating lightly to the ground.

She was taken aback at first, but she soon looked at me with displeasure. "I'll assume you're just upset after getting out of prison. But don't ever bring this up again."

After saying that, she planted her foot on the lawyer's complaint. Then, as if nothing had happened, she brushed the snow from my shoulders.

She explained, "Walter's son got into graduate school this year. The celebration banquet is being held a week from now. It wouldn't be right for you to go, but if you go and apologize, his family will forgive you."

I stared at her in disbelief, my eyes wide.

How could she possibly say something like that?

Because of that bastard, I had spent three years in prison, suffering like hell behind bars.

However, that wasn't all. She actually wanted me to apologize to the person who had caused this.

"I would rather piss on his grave or something," I said with a mocking smile, but my eyes were cold.

Mom immediately understood what I meant. Her face twisted with rage as she raised her hand to slap me. However, I grabbed her wrist and flung her aside.

She lost her footing and fell into my father, Brett Leston's arms.

He yelled, "Louis, have you lost your mind? How dare you hit your own mother! Since you were getting out of prison today, your mother and I came here early to wait for you.

"Do you have any idea how cold it is out here? After spending three years in there, you've clearly forgotten your manners! We really raised you for nothing!"

I looked at Dad, who was seething with rage, and couldn't help but laugh.

"You? Raised me? Did you raise me just so you could make me take the fall and go to prison? Do you know what I've gone through these past three years? You don't!

"All you care about is that benefactor's son! What kind of parents are you? You're no better than animals!" I screamed hysterically, venting all the resentment I had bottled up over the last three years.

I thought they would at least feel guilty and apologize to me. Sadly, it was all wishful thinking. They just looked disappointed, unhappy, and even angry at me.

Mom said, "Your father and I thought that three years in prison would teach you some restraint and make you more mature. But you're still as selfish and heartless as ever. All you ever think about is yourself.

"Since you think we're worse than animals, don't use my name to throw your weight around. Once you've apologized to Walter and admitted that you were wrong, you can come home."

The moment Mom finished speaking, she didn't talk to me again. She simply turned and walked back to the car.

Seeing this, Dad glared at me viciously and said, "If you still want to come home, listen to your mother and apologize. Then, we can put this behind us.

"Seriously, you're an adult, but you still give your parents grief. It's just embarrassing."

After that, I watched as he got into the car as well. A moment later, he floored the accelerator and drove away from the prison gates, leaving me standing there alone.

I touched my empty pockets and laughed bitterly at myself. As if punishing myself, I stood outside the prison, letting the heavy snow fall over me.

I started, "You see, I asked Mr. Bardot to run my DNA against the database, but unexpectedly, we discovered something strange."Before I could finish, Fiona frantically interrupted me, "Stop talking! We admit you're innocent! Just stop!"She tried to rush out of the defendants' table, but the bailiffs immediately restrained her.Meanwhile, I remained unfazed as I continued, "The strange thing is, my name is Louis Leston, but according to the DNA database, the person this DNA belongs to is Tim Watson. "So, I have one question. With so many DNA profiles in the database, how is it that only Tim's and mine happened to be switched?"At this point, there was no longer any doubt about the case. The defense lawyer still refused to give up and pressed me with another question. "Then, why didn't the defendants switch the DNA back after the incident? Your argument doesn't hold water!"This time, Xander answered for me. "Because once the case was closed, the authority to modify the DNA rec

Fiona said, "Everyone, it's my failure as a parent for not raising him right. After all, he's always been a habitual liar, and now he's gone so far as to do something this serious."After she finished speaking, Tim immediately chimed in, "Louis, I may have slept with your girlfriend and provoked you, but you can't just take your anger out on other women. "That was a serious crime. Do you have any idea how much harm you have caused her? "I only called Ms. Kensington because I was worried you might get hurt. But when it comes to relationships, who can really predict how things will turn out? "Who would have thought you'd actually commit such a special kind of evil?"His words caused an uproar. Murmurs spread through the courtroom as several spectators began whispering among themselves. "So, he held a grudge after his girlfriend cheated on him, and that's why he caused all this trouble?" "His own mother has talked about it. Maybe there's some truth to it. The plaintiff could j

I explained, "As it turned out, just three days later, the man was accused of inappropriate conduct toward a student in his class. The evidence was conclusive, and he was sentenced to five years in prison. "When Tim was in junior high, a male student at his school was reported to have jumped to his death. His parents believed their son had always been cheerful and outgoing, so they demanded an investigation. "In the end, the boy's mother was accused of embezzling money from her company. She was then suspected of trying to extort money from the school. The evidence was supposedly airtight, and she ended up with a six-year prison sentence."The moment I saw Shiloh's eyes widen, I knew he had no idea about any of this.I paused for a moment before continuing, "Back when Tim was in high school, a student claimed she had been bullied. Her homeroom teacher swore to get justice for her. "But in the end, that teacher was accused of abusing his position and accepting 500 thousand dollar

The police had no intention of holding Fiona accountable. If she were convicted, their reputation would take a serious hit. Once that happened, things would only get worse. However, if I admitted to the crime, I would be living with this for the rest of my life. Therefore, I couldn't afford to back down.I handed the formal complaint to Xander and told him, "I'm filing a formal complaint against Fiona. She abused her position to make me take the blame for someone else. I will fight her to the very end."After that, I paid no further heed to Xander's words and left the station with Shiloh. Back in the car, he asked, "She has a powerful backer, and your chances of winning are slim. Aren't you scared?"I was the furthest thing from scared. I replied, "No, I feel nothing but excitement."I uploaded the complaint and the lawyer's letter online, causing the posts that had been quietly suppressed to trend once more. This time, I posted the entire story online, along with the original c

Finally, Xander took the voice recorder and told us to go home and wait for further news. After leaving the police station, Shiloh looked at me with a smile. He said, "Looks like they have no intention of helping you."I smiled bitterly. Given Fiona's reputation and influence in the legal industry, there was no way a single voice recording could bring her down.Besides, if the police had genuinely wanted to investigate the case properly back then, they wouldn't have assigned me an intern as my defense lawyer.Fortunately, I had a backup plan. "How is the video coming along?" I asked.Shiloh gave me a playful wink. "Just say the word, and the video will be sent to every major influencer. They might be able to suppress it before things get out of hand. But once this blows up, there'll be nothing they can do to stop it."We returned to the law firm and waited for three days. When there was still no word from the police, we uploaded the video from the private room online. It didn't

"We received a report of illegal activity in this private room! Everyone, put your hands up!" the police yelled.Everyone immediately turned to look at me. I slowly straightened up and said, "I never said I was really here to apologize."Fiona was the first to react and immediately showed them her attorney credentials. "Is there some kind of misunderstanding? My friends and I are just having a private gathering. How could we possibly be involved in anything illegal?"Hearing her words, the lead officer gave her a knowing look. He gave a small gesture, and the two officers behind him immediately placed her in handcuffs. The lead officer then looked over at me. He said, "You're the one who made the report, right? You'll also need to come with us."I nodded and turned to get into the police car with them, but Fiona called out to me from behind. "Louis, how dare you report me! What the hell are you up to? Do you think reporting me will do any good? My friends in the legal profession w
