Chapter 2

Autor: Yoyo
Eventually, the prison guard standing at the gate couldn't bear to watch any longer. He came over and patted me on the shoulder.

"You should head back. There's a bus over there that will take you into the city. Here, take this money.

"Live a good life and stay out of trouble from now on," he said, handing me two dollars.

I looked over at him. I remembered that he was the one who had escorted me to my cell. When he learned what I had been imprisoned for, he had berated me.

Yet, he was the one giving a helping hand.

With a frown, I took the money and looked him straight in the eyes.

"I didn't hurt anyone. I'm innocent. I will bring the real culprit to justice," I said with determination.

After that, I walked away without looking back, disappearing into the snowstorm.

As I sat on the bus, I felt a faint warmth around me as I got lost in thought.

Three years ago, I had finally finished the task my supervisor had assigned me and was ready to take a break.

Not wanting to disturb my roommates, I even rented a private gaming room outside and spent the whole night gaming.

Yet, after barely two hours of sleep, the police kicked down my door and arrested me on suspicion of assaulting a woman.

"Where were you at 1:00 am last night? What were you doing? Is there anyone who can verify that?"

As the police questioned me, I forced myself to stay composed. I knew I couldn't have done anything like that.

After all, I had spent the entire night playing games.

"I rented the room at 9:00 pm and stayed there playing games the entire time. Eventually, I got tired and fell asleep. Then, you guys woke me up.

"As for my whereabouts, the hotel should have security footage. I never left the room. My gaming account has a log too. I can log in and prove it," I answered honestly.

I thought the police would clear my name as soon as they checked. Instead, their expressions shifted. Without saying a word, they left me alone in the interrogation room.

I began to panic a little. I had a feeling things weren't as simple as I had thought. I didn't know how much time had passed before the interrogation room door finally opened.

Mom walked in with a grim expression. She then threw a stack of documents into my face. "Louis, I really raised you for nothing! How dare you assault a female student! I'm so disappointed in you!"

I insisted I hadn't done it, but the evidence in the documents was disturbingly thorough.

Every piece of evidence, including security footage from the hallway, a gaming account I could no longer log into, and even DNA evidence from the investigation, pointed to me.

No one would listen to my explanation, and no one was willing to defend me.

"You may be my son, but I can't bend the rules to shield you! What you did to that woman was against the law.

"The least I can do is send you away for a few years and let you learn your lesson." Mom said those words in court with conviction.

Her eyes were red, but she remained firm in her decision to send me away.

This went viral online, and I became the target of public outrage. My parents were loving and successful, yet somehow, they had ended up with a son like me.

"So, you're the criminal whose mother turned in for the sake of justice? You disgust me! I can't believe you still get to go to university. What a waste!"

"There are so many things you could do, and you did something like that to that woman! You're a disgrace to men everywhere."

"I heard the woman was an only child. Her parents have spoiled her since she was little. And then, something like this happened to her. Her life was ruined by that scumbag."

The prison guards' voices echoed in my ears, and everyone looked at me with hatred.

In prison, those accused of crimes like mine were often at the very bottom of the hierarchy.

They were ostracized, beaten, and verbally abused. I had wounds that never healed, and I never had enough to eat.

For the past three years, I had gone through hell.

"You have arrived at Dawnridge Street."

The bus announcement pulled me out of my thoughts. I stood up, got off the bus, and walked for god knew how long before finally stopping. I looked up and saw the sign, "Prescott Law Firm."

I walked into the lobby and said to the receptionist, "I'd like to see Shiloh Prescott. Tell him I have a major case that can bring down Fiona Kensington."

I thought, "Fiona, since you refuse to show me mercy, don't blame me for what will happen next."

I started, "You see, I asked Mr. Bardot to run my DNA against the database, but unexpectedly, we discovered something strange."Before I could finish, Fiona frantically interrupted me, "Stop talking! We admit you're innocent! Just stop!"She tried to rush out of the defendants' table, but the bailiffs immediately restrained her.Meanwhile, I remained unfazed as I continued, "The strange thing is, my name is Louis Leston, but according to the DNA database, the person this DNA belongs to is Tim Watson. "So, I have one question. With so many DNA profiles in the database, how is it that only Tim's and mine happened to be switched?"At this point, there was no longer any doubt about the case. The defense lawyer still refused to give up and pressed me with another question. "Then, why didn't the defendants switch the DNA back after the incident? Your argument doesn't hold water!"This time, Xander answered for me. "Because once the case was closed, the authority to modify the DNA rec

Fiona said, "Everyone, it's my failure as a parent for not raising him right. After all, he's always been a habitual liar, and now he's gone so far as to do something this serious."After she finished speaking, Tim immediately chimed in, "Louis, I may have slept with your girlfriend and provoked you, but you can't just take your anger out on other women. "That was a serious crime. Do you have any idea how much harm you have caused her? "I only called Ms. Kensington because I was worried you might get hurt. But when it comes to relationships, who can really predict how things will turn out? "Who would have thought you'd actually commit such a special kind of evil?"His words caused an uproar. Murmurs spread through the courtroom as several spectators began whispering among themselves. "So, he held a grudge after his girlfriend cheated on him, and that's why he caused all this trouble?" "His own mother has talked about it. Maybe there's some truth to it. The plaintiff could j

I explained, "As it turned out, just three days later, the man was accused of inappropriate conduct toward a student in his class. The evidence was conclusive, and he was sentenced to five years in prison. "When Tim was in junior high, a male student at his school was reported to have jumped to his death. His parents believed their son had always been cheerful and outgoing, so they demanded an investigation. "In the end, the boy's mother was accused of embezzling money from her company. She was then suspected of trying to extort money from the school. The evidence was supposedly airtight, and she ended up with a six-year prison sentence."The moment I saw Shiloh's eyes widen, I knew he had no idea about any of this.I paused for a moment before continuing, "Back when Tim was in high school, a student claimed she had been bullied. Her homeroom teacher swore to get justice for her. "But in the end, that teacher was accused of abusing his position and accepting 500 thousand dollar

The police had no intention of holding Fiona accountable. If she were convicted, their reputation would take a serious hit. Once that happened, things would only get worse. However, if I admitted to the crime, I would be living with this for the rest of my life. Therefore, I couldn't afford to back down.I handed the formal complaint to Xander and told him, "I'm filing a formal complaint against Fiona. She abused her position to make me take the blame for someone else. I will fight her to the very end."After that, I paid no further heed to Xander's words and left the station with Shiloh. Back in the car, he asked, "She has a powerful backer, and your chances of winning are slim. Aren't you scared?"I was the furthest thing from scared. I replied, "No, I feel nothing but excitement."I uploaded the complaint and the lawyer's letter online, causing the posts that had been quietly suppressed to trend once more. This time, I posted the entire story online, along with the original c

Finally, Xander took the voice recorder and told us to go home and wait for further news. After leaving the police station, Shiloh looked at me with a smile. He said, "Looks like they have no intention of helping you."I smiled bitterly. Given Fiona's reputation and influence in the legal industry, there was no way a single voice recording could bring her down.Besides, if the police had genuinely wanted to investigate the case properly back then, they wouldn't have assigned me an intern as my defense lawyer.Fortunately, I had a backup plan. "How is the video coming along?" I asked.Shiloh gave me a playful wink. "Just say the word, and the video will be sent to every major influencer. They might be able to suppress it before things get out of hand. But once this blows up, there'll be nothing they can do to stop it."We returned to the law firm and waited for three days. When there was still no word from the police, we uploaded the video from the private room online. It didn't

"We received a report of illegal activity in this private room! Everyone, put your hands up!" the police yelled.Everyone immediately turned to look at me. I slowly straightened up and said, "I never said I was really here to apologize."Fiona was the first to react and immediately showed them her attorney credentials. "Is there some kind of misunderstanding? My friends and I are just having a private gathering. How could we possibly be involved in anything illegal?"Hearing her words, the lead officer gave her a knowing look. He gave a small gesture, and the two officers behind him immediately placed her in handcuffs. The lead officer then looked over at me. He said, "You're the one who made the report, right? You'll also need to come with us."I nodded and turned to get into the police car with them, but Fiona called out to me from behind. "Louis, how dare you report me! What the hell are you up to? Do you think reporting me will do any good? My friends in the legal profession w
