A post shared by a hospital staff member began to go viral online. The headline read, [The life of medical titan Dr. Patricia Shaw's son was hanging by a thread, but an inhumane doctor refused to operate in a chilling turn of events.]

The post did not give the full story of what truly happened, and only mentioned how I ignored the severity of the patient's condition by refusing to operate. The post fueled even more anger when it revealed that the patient was Patricia's son, and I was accused of trying to milk the situation for everything it was worth.

A high‑definition photo of a teary‑eyed Patricia bowing and begging while I looked at her coldly, apparently making sarcastic comments, was shared alongside the post.

It took less than 30 minutes for the story to start trending online. Netizens flooded the comments section to hurl abuse at me, and everyone took Patricia's side.

Some of them were angry for justice.

I grabbed her hand. The calluses on her skin tingled my palm. They were evidence of her love for me, as she had raised me alone with those hands.

"No," I replied. "We will win this. Dad waited 40 years for this day."

The next day, the hospital arranged a press conference for Patricia and her family. It was held in Evan Shaw's hospital room, and Rebecca Lovelace sat next to him, feeding him soup. Joshua and Patricia sat on a sofa next to the bed with a banner behind them that read, 'Healing wounds and saving lives'.

David was present as he spoke with great sincerity. "I'm here to represent the hospital to apologize to Dr. Shaw and her family. Our hospital failed you by trusting the wrong doctor and letting you down, especially when Dr. Shaw herself is a doctor with a big heart. Our hospital failed your trust.

"The plaque we are presenting to you is a token from the hospital. It represents our respect for you, and the gratitude of all the patients you saved from the brink of death."

His words brought respectful solemnness to the occasion, and Patricia raised her hand slowly, presenting herself with the grace and magnitude of a person of seniority. Her voice was gentle with a forgiving tone.

"I started my career from the very bottom and reached the top through sheer hard work and perseverance. I understood deeply how difficult it was to be in the medical field, and I was always empathetic to those who came after me, giving young doctors the chance to grow by learning from their mistakes."

Everyone was touched by Patricia's big heart.

However, her speech took a different turn when she suddenly looked disappointed and sad.

"It is a sad thing to see young doctors becoming arrogant over minor achievements and losing the core of what it means to be a doctor. A doctor should always have a kind heart and keep to their principles without crossing any lines."

Patricia's words ignited reactions in the live stream.

Evan clenched his fists gently upon hearing the question, and he answered weakly but firmly with unwavering eyes. "I'm grateful for the understanding of the Hospital Director, Dr. Ranch, and everyone present, but in regards to what has transpired, I find myself unable to be as forgiving."

His voice trembled slightly. "Mine was a high‑risk surgery that, if handled by any other surgeon, might have lowered my chances of survival. I would have died if my mother, despite being in her seventies, had not pushed herself to operate on me."

Evan looked straight into the camera as his eyes turned red from tearing up. "My mother spent her entire life dedicated to her medical career, and she did so with a clear conscience, yet in her old age, she was forced to watch her son's life be at stake while forgoing her dignity to beg another to save me. I could not stand by and allow this injustice on her left unpunished."

He paused for a moment before continuing with conviction. "My mother was always a forgiving person, but I could not let this injustice continue. I would officially bring Dr. Shane Corbin to court over what he had done, and make him pay the price in the eyes of the law."

Evan's call for justice on his mother's behalf ignited a round of approval on the live stream.

It was the perfect time for me to walk into the room. I was the first one to applaud Evan's proclamation. "What a great show of fighting for justice and calling for all doctors to be principled and show kindness to their patients."

Everyone turned to look in my direction.

When Evan saw me, he frowned and said, "How dare you show your face here, Dr. Corbin!"

I laughed with a sarcastic look in my eye as I stared at Patricia. "Do you really have a clear conscience? Do you still remember your late husband, whom you abandoned at the surgery table to die a horrible death for fame and fortune?"
