Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Not long after, David Ranch, who was the hospital director, came over to me with a solemn look on his face. He stopped right in front of me and said in a commanding tone, "This is the last time I am warning you, Dr. Corvin. Operate on Dr. Shaw's son right now."

I was busy reading the important notes on a medical record and did not even look up at him. "The hospital has its rules. You should not set a bad example by violating them when you are the hospital director."

When I refused to budge, David became frustrated. "Do you have any idea who Dr. Shaw is? She is a titan among surgeons in the country and has four decades of experience behind her. She has saved hundreds and thousands of lives and is a highly respected veteran of the medical field.

"With her current status and connections, she does not need to lift a finger for others within the field to ostracize you on her behalf. You are not only destroying your future by being stubborn, but you will bring the hospital down with you as well."

She had saved numerous lives, but she had chosen to abandon her dying husband. She was not a titan. She was a murderer.

I could not help bursting out with a laugh, and when I continued to ignore him, David threatened, "If you insist on being this way, the hospital will relieve you of your duties and revoke all of your medical accolades."

All I did was take a deep breath as I put on my scrubs and began scrubbing in for the surgery. It took less than ten minutes for an elegant and dignified woman to approach me. It was Patricia. She had a soft look on her face and was known to everyone as a miracle doctor.

It was a face that I had remembered for forty years, and hated for forty years. I felt disgust and hate whenever memories of her appeared to me in the night.

When she stood next to me, she spoke with the confidence of a powerful woman. "You are a very capable doctor, Dr. Corbin. As a doctor who heals and saves lives just as you do, I admire you a lot, and I do not wish to see your future destroyed over a little pride."

Patricia put on surgical gloves with ease and began speaking with a tone of seniority. "I am giving you one last chance. I will operate on your patient, and you can start operating on my son. I have done nothing in this life that goes against my conscience, and this is the only time I am crossing that line to ask for your help to save my poor son."

"I promise you, I will remember what you did for us, and I will make sure that you will have a bright future ahead of you."

She looked sincere and concerned for her son, but I was not moved. All I felt was disgust.

He could have had a better life, but he insisted on taking up three jobs a day just to pay for her to study medicine. When she did not have a dime to her name, he stayed by her side and endured a hard life with her.

Yet, when he came to visit her happily at the hospital with their young son in tow and got into an accident along the way, he was cruelly abandoned. Has she ever thought about how much pain he was in while she was busy cheating on him with another man?

I stared at the water flowing down the sink. "You said you have never gone against your conscience…" I sniggered and turned to her to continue through clenched teeth, "Then how do you explain the innocent lives you have sacrificed just to get where you are today?!"

Patricia was taken aback, and her voice became sharp as she revealed her true colors. "Who are you?"

I stared into her eyes, but I did not see the answer I wanted. She must have done too many horrible things to fail to recognize her son, whom she had almost killed years ago. I replied sarcastically, "Who do you think I am?"

It took less than a few seconds for Patricia to calm down. She looked back at me arrogantly and with disdain. "I have seen my fair share of people like you who do nothing but cause trouble. You are just another clown without evidence, and in the end, you will come crawling back to me to beg for forgiveness."

She must have handled plenty of pitiful souls who failed to get justice all these years, and she had no idea that one of them had managed to slip past her. The innocent child, who was supposed to be dead, had carried his father's hate and had come for her.

I exhaled slowly. "There is no telling who will emerge as the true victor of this, Dr. Shaw."

Patricia's eyes narrowed as she looked at me, and she ended up scoffing. "You are asking for it, young man."

I entered the surgery room to operate on the burn victim, while she walked into her son's VIP treatment room.

Disinfect, operate, and sew up the patient.

I stayed highly focused on every step of the operation and nothing else, but the patient's condition remained on my mind. I was not only saving an ordinary patient. I was also saving my father, who had been left alone and helpless all those years ago.

However, I was not about to let her get away with this. I took a step forward and spoke loud enough to cover the scattered discussions around the room."Merit should be given where it is due, and the same could be said for crimes to be paid. The act of murder is already an unforgivable crime. Moreover, Patricia Shaw's crime does not stop at a simple adultery."As I was speaking, I clicked on my phone, which was connected to the projector in the hospital room. A file immediately grabbed everyone's attention."Patricia Shaw enjoyed 40 years of honor in the medical field, but most of her work was stolen." I looked sharply at Patricia and Evan, whose faces had turned pale."The numerous important medical papers that you were so proud of, that highlighted various innovative surgical technologies, were not the results of your research work, but the stolen work of juniors and new doctors who poured their heart and soul into those studies."Several original drafts of those theses appeared

Everyone turned to look in the direction of the voice, and they saw an elderly grandmother walk slowly into the hospital room. Her hair had turned gray, and her eyes were filled with years of sorrow and determination. Two policemen in uniform followed closely behind her as her shadow elongated under the bright sun, looking like it had finally arrived after 40 years of sorrow for delayed justice.Joshua looked worried as he clenched the blanket by the bed, while Patricia jumped at her appearance. My grandmother held a thick stack of carefully sealed papers in her hands. "It has been 40 years. I hid this evidence for 40 years."Her voice was hoarse and sounded tired from years of emotional torture. "When my son died a horrible death, his murderer enjoyed fame and fortune, while my grandson barely escaped death at a young age. I was too afraid to reveal the evidence because I was alone and powerless to fight against you. All I could do was wait for the day when I could finally bring a

I raised my eyes to look right at Patricia, who froze and turned pale as I continued to crucify her with my words."You were in a hurry to help Joshua Carver with his physical therapy massage 40 years ago, and you were careless with the wounds on Dad and me when you were sewing us up. You never planned to save our lives. You wanted to kill us by faking a failed surgery."You were overconfident and in a hurry, which was why you failed to kill me and left behind evidence of your crime instead. I survived, and I returned for payback."Patricia was in shock as her face turned deathly pale. All of the words she prepared to retaliate against me were stuck in her throat. All of the reporters lowered their heads as they got busy making notes of what happened. Their cameras locked onto my scar, making sure none of the details were left out."You claim that you never had a failed surgery, then how do you explain the surgery scar from your unique one‑of‑a‑kind technique that was never replic

The room became so silent that one could hear a pin drop. Everyone turned quiet as they stopped their discussions abruptly, and all cameras focused on me. Even the comments section of the live stream paused after my declaration. It took only a few seconds for everyone to erupt with shock, and the comments section of the live stream was once again filled with exclamations from netizens who were reeling from the news.Patricia turned pale as 40 years of deeply buried fear started to rise within her. She tried her best to suppress the panic, and she continued berating me sharply."This is absolutely ridiculous! I had many patients throughout the years, and you're here claiming that we're related just because you caught wind of a story from a long time ago? Do you think anyone on the streets can come up to me and claim that I'm their mother?"Her back was straight, and her voice was firm. Patricia continued maintaining her dignity as a medical academician and used her authoritative nat

A flustered look appeared on Patricia's face, but it vanished as quickly as it had appeared. She immediately put up a righteous farce as she spoke sharply at me. "What nonsense are you talking about, Dr. Corbin?!"The reporters exchanged looks and started talking amongst themselves."Dr. Shaw always maintained a good reputation. Not only that, Joshua Carver and Dr. Shaw were married for decades, and were known as a loving couple in the industry. What late husband is Dr. Corbin talking about?""That's right. I never heard any cheating rumors about Dr. Shaw. Has Dr. Corbin gone crazy? Why is he saying such ridiculous things here?"I calmly took out a yellowed photo from my pocket. It curled slightly around the edges from age. It was a photo of a gentle‑looking Patricia in her twenties with a brightly smiling young man standing next to her."The man you called Joshua Carver was nothing but a third party in their relationship. Patricia Shaw's first husband was the man in this photo."

A post shared by a hospital staff member began to go viral online. The headline read, [The life of medical titan Dr. Patricia Shaw's son was hanging by a thread, but an inhumane doctor refused to operate in a chilling turn of events.]The post did not give the full story of what truly happened, and only mentioned how I ignored the severity of the patient's condition by refusing to operate. The post fueled even more anger when it revealed that the patient was Patricia's son, and I was accused of trying to milk the situation for everything it was worth.A high‑definition photo of a teary‑eyed Patricia bowing and begging while I looked at her coldly, apparently making sarcastic comments, was shared alongside the post.It took less than 30 minutes for the story to start trending online. Netizens flooded the comments section to hurl abuse at me, and everyone took Patricia's side. Some of them were angry for justice.[Dr. Shaw saved lives for four decades and kept many families from los
