Sixteen: The Word Given

EIRA

“He’s your pup?!” Cassian blurts the moment we step into my house for privacy.

Kael blinks between us, but is still latched onto Cassian.

I nod once. “Yes, Your Majesty. His name is Kael.”

“So you lied.” His jaw ticks, eyes hard. “Who’s the father? Is it Alpha David?”

“What?” I sputter, heart pounding. “N-no. Goddess, no. Alpha David is not the father, why?”

“Becasue your pup is an Alpha!” Cassian hisses. When I don’t appear shocked, he scoffs. “You knew that didn’t you?”

I nod solemnly, fiddling my thumbs. My stomach dips and rolls at his obviously angry glare.

“Why did you lie?” He asks.

Kael squirms and Cassian puts him down, and he toddles out of the house.

Cassian focuses on me once again.

His eyes harden when I don’t respond. “Why did you lie to me?”

The question, the glare, everything pricks at me. My chest heaves as anger bubbles up my body, fists clenching and unclenching.
