Chapter Forty-Five

Selene

‘Thank the Goddess. Selene, you’re really alive.’ I watch for the first time in my life as my Dad bursts into tears and falls to his knees at the side of my bed. Loud, heavy sobs make his body shake. ‘Dad, it’s ok. I’m home now.’ My hand is still tiny on his big spade like hand on the crips white sheets of the hospital bed. He stops sobbing and looks up at me. His eye are dull and sad. I’m home but Mum and Crystal are gone forever. I feel tears start to well up in my own eyes and they start to trickle down my own face. ‘Don’t cry love, It’s ok. Ill never let anyone hurt you again.’ He stands awkwardly and pulls me into his big arms. He doesn’t feel the same as before. He has definitely lost weight over the time I have been missing, but its more than that, he is different.

‘You’ve lost so much weight’ He holds both my shoulders at arm’s length and looks me over. ‘That’s funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you.’ I laugh and finally he breaks into a smi
