The full moon hung high in the sky, its silver light casting an ethereal glow over the pack grounds. The night felt different now, heavier, as if the weight of what had been left unsaid between her and Kael was now a tangible force in the air.

Leora couldn’t escape the feeling, not when every step she took felt like it was leading her closer to something that was both terrifying and inevitable.

The conversation with Liam had planted a seed of doubt, and now, more than ever, she found herself questioning everything she had thought she understood about her bond with Kael.

There were moments, flashes of uncertainty, where she wondered if Kael even knew how to let someone in, if he even wanted to. But what Liam had said stuck with her: Kael wasn’t cold for no reason.

His distance had to come from somewhere, some wound from his past that had shaped him into the alpha he was today.

But none of that made it any easier to be near him. Not when the bond, that inexplicable force that tied them together, tugged at her with such intensity.

Every time she was in his presence, her heart would race, her breath would catch, and her thoughts would scatter. The pull was intoxicating, undeniable, yet terrifying all the same.

The truth was that, despite all her fears, Leora couldn’t deny the chemistry between them. It was there, raw and electric.

And tonight, she would face him again.

Leora had been avoiding the Alpha, spending most of her time in her cabin or out in the forest, trying to give herself space to breathe, to think.

But the Alpha’s orders were clear: she was needed at the pack’s gathering. The moon was full, and it was a time for the pack to gather, to reaffirm their unity. It was also a time for Kael to make his presence known, to remind them of his strength and authority.

As Leora made her way toward the gathering, her mind kept returning to Kael. She had never felt this torn before. On one hand, he was her mate.

That much was clear. But on the other hand, there was something about him—something that made her feel so small and insignificant whenever he looked at her.

He was everything she wasn’t. Powerful, stoic, and unshakable. How could someone like her, so powerless, ever fit into his world?

The sound of laughter and voices reached her ears as she approached the clearing, and she paused for a moment, standing just at the edge of the crowd.

The pack had already gathered around the fire, the warm glow illuminating their faces. There, at the center of it all, stood Kael.

He looked every bit the part of an Alpha, his tall frame commanding attention without him needing to speak. His presence alone made the world around him feel still, as though nothing else mattered.

Leora’s heart skipped a beat, and she found herself taking an involuntary step forward. The moment she did, she felt it—a pulse of energy, as if the bond between them had just flared to life.

Her heart thundered in her chest, and her body seemed to respond to his presence in ways she couldn’t control.

“Leora.”

Her breath caught at the sound of his voice. Kael’s gaze locked with hers across the clearing. He didn’t smile, didn’t make any outward show of emotion.

But there was something there, something in the way his eyes softened just the slightest bit when they met hers. A flicker of something buried deep within him.

She hesitated for a moment, then found herself walking toward him, as if her body were acting of its own accord. The pull to him, the bond, was too strong for her to ignore.

As she stepped into the circle of light around the fire, Kael’s gaze followed her, his eyes intense but unreadable.

The others in the pack seemed to acknowledge her arrival, but Kael was the only one who held her attention. His presence filled the space between them, and for a moment, everything else faded away.

“Alpha,” she said, her voice steady but her pulse betraying her.

“Leora.” His voice was low, commanding. “I’m glad you could join us.”

She didn’t know why, but the way he said her name—so simple, so direct—sent a shiver down her spine. She hadn’t expected him to be so formal, but then again, Kael had never been anything but formal.

He wasn’t the type to show warmth, to reach out or give any sign of vulnerability. It was always business with him. Leadership. Control.

“Of course,” she replied, trying to keep her voice even. But inside, her heart raced, and she could feel the bond between them like a humming current beneath her skin. Why couldn’t I be like him? She wondered again, that aching thought surfacing in her mind. Why couldn’t I be stronger?

The pack began to settle, gathering around the fire in a loose circle, and Leora found herself sitting beside Kael, her body instinctively gravitating toward him.

She could feel his warmth beside her, feel the strength in his presence. But still, he remained distant, as if they were two separate entities bound by some strange force rather than two souls connected by fate.

The fire crackled and popped, the flames dancing wildly in the cool night air, but Leora couldn’t keep her focus on anything but Kael.

Every time he shifted in his seat, every time he moved his gaze, it was like a pulse, an electric charge that shot through her. She wanted to say something, to ask him what was happening between them, but the words caught in her throat. What could she say? What did she even want from him?

Liam’s voice broke into her thoughts, pulling her back to the present. He sat on the other side of the circle, his smile wide and carefree as always.

“Alpha, Luna,” Liam said with a teasing grin, “It’s good to see you both here. I wasn’t sure if you’d make it after all that ‘bonding’ talk earlier.” He glanced between the two of them, his gaze mischievous.

Leora’s cheeks flushed at his mention of the bond, and Kael remained silent, his eyes fixed ahead. But she could feel the weight of the conversation hanging between them.

The bond was not something easily ignored, and it wasn’t something that could be dismissed with a smile. It was real, and it was pulling them both toward an uncertain future.

“Liam,” Kael said, his voice surprisingly cool. “Let’s focus on the matter at hand. There’s more to discuss than just the bond.”

Leora couldn’t help but notice the sharpness in Kael’s tone. His attention was fully on the pack now, his focus unwavering as he shifted into Alpha mode.

But there was something behind his words, something that made her wonder just how much of the bond he truly understood.

The conversation shifted to pack matters, but Leora couldn’t focus. Her mind kept wandering back to Kael, to the way he held himself with such control, such indifference.

But deep inside, beneath the surface of that cold exterior, she could sense something more. Something raw.

The fire flickered, casting shadows across their faces, and as the night wore on, Leora found herself lost in thought. She was surrounded by her pack, by the people she cared about, but it felt as though the only thing that mattered in that moment was Kael.

She could feel the bond deep in her chest, a rhythm that beat in time with her heart. And no matter how much she tried to push it away, she knew one thing for certain.

The pull between them was stronger than anything she had ever known.

But would it be enough?

Would she ever be enough for Kael?

As the flames burned low and the night grew deeper, the answer was still uncertain. But one thing was clear: no matter where the bond led them, Leora couldn’t escape it. She couldn’t escape him.

The stranger's warning was too strong for Leora to ignore. Like a ghost whispering a prophecy, his voice reverberated in her mind, venomous and uncannily serene. The lingering effects of that encounter hung on her like smoke as she and Kael paced through the moonlit woods. The pack was mobilizing all around them, with wolves shifting, armor clinking, and eyes glowing with fear or excitement. The quiet night had lost its tranquility. It had turned into the quiet before a storm. The thunder of battle cries followed by howls pierced the tension like lightning across a clear sky. The way Kael moved next to her—fierce, fluid, completely in control—as well as the excitement of the hunt made Leora's heart race. But beneath his brutal accuracy lay a shield that accelerated her heartbeat. Kael whispered in a low, urgent voice, "Stay close." His body tense and alert like a predator stalking prey, his eyes scanning the darkened landscape ahead. He barely touched her with his fingers, b

The embers pulsed softly, casting their faint glow over the crushed leaves and broken branches left behind from the night before. The chaos of battle had receded, but its echoes still hummed beneath her skin like an aftershock.A deep ache sat in her chest like simmering fog—residual adrenaline, sorrow, and something more. She didn’t know what exactly. Only that it left her restless, every breath shallow, every silence too loud.Kael stood next to her, stiff as the cold air around them. The fire’s dying light didn’t reach his face, but she could sense the tension in him, coiled like a spring. His shoulders were set, his arms crossed over his broad chest. Even with the war momentarily behind them, he looked ready to fight.“The rogues are gone,” he muttered, voice hoarse and raw. “For now.”The words hovered li

Every breath felt slightly heavier than the last, but tension was hardly the single cause for the frantic beating of Leora’s heart. It was something much deeper, a connection that was no longer reasonable to ignore. A mysterious attraction that existed between her and Kael, one that seemed to be stronger than whatever force he tried to separate them with.It has been days since the two of them had last fought, and it was particularly evident that Kael had changed. He never ceased to be the icy, composed alpha that Leora met on their first introduction, but there was now a glimpse of something more bubbling under the ice. It was as though a small fissure had split open on the door, and through it, Leora could see the man he truly was—a man that had been hidden underneath bravado and agony.Kael had been more withdrawn than he was usually, going for long hours of solitude inside at night. The silence worried her, but at least she had some space to herself. She understood, or rather, acc

There was something more laced in every glance between them, something they weren’t aware of fully both of them.Their hesitancy or their fears were a nonfactor to the bond. It was relentless. It demanded attention. The pull was maddening for Leora. Her feet felt like they had no sure footing, the world had shifted and she walked on something much stronger than her own will. The bond between them—their bond would not allow her to be anything less than as tethered to him as bound to Kael in a way that made no sense, that shouldn’t. However, it was growing with every passing day, the distance between them.Kael’s walls were impenetrable, and he kept his heart shut and bolted away from inside it. She stood for him on the other side, wanting to be near then wanting to understand but unsure of how
