My heart clenched as I stared at Kim, trying to keep my face neutral. Abby caught my shocked expression and leaned in to whisper conspiratorially. "That's Kim—you know, the daughter of Luna Meranda and Alpha Justin. She's kind of a big deal around here.”

“Why…why is that?” I asked, trying to act as if I didn’t know who Kim was.

“Are you serious right now?” Abby questioned. “She’s the future Luna to Alpha heir, Terry. On top of that, she will be the first Luna to run a pack on her own as Alpha Justin and Luna Meranda are stepping down to allow her to combine her pack with Terry’s.”

Abby sounded impressed, but her words made me feel ill. "Oh," was all I could manage to say. My stomach churned with disgust at how highly they thought of her.

"You're a hard one to impress," Abby laughed, "but that makes sense because you're from the BloodRose pack, but I am surprised that you never saw her in person. Did you not attend any pack events?"
