Meghan's POV
I went back inside, and on my way I was stopped by Lolita and Bella. "What part about you missed a spot don't you understand? Who's going to clean all of this?" Lolita said. "Maybe she is expecting us to do it, mom." Anger swelled inside of me all of a sudden. "This is my husband's house and I can clean it whenever I want to. I wish you both can leave already." Their eyes widened as I said that. No one believed I could dare speak back, even I didn't believe that. "What was that? You're growing some balls, aren't you?" Lolita snapped. "This is why I want you out of here soon. So you've been pretending like you're a good girl all along, huh?" Bella questioned. "I have done everything you always ask. Even I answer to you Bella, like you're my big sis and not actually four years younger than me." I said back, receiving shocking glances from them. "See Mira isn't like this. What a sweet girl." Lolita said, getting a suspicious glance from her daughter. Right there, I too was forced to frown. "Why would you bring up his secretary in the midst of what we're saying now?" I said in fear. I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking...Alec wasn't a flirt even though all the girls liked him. But with that forward secretary of his, I always suspected she was trying to seduce him. Bella smiled as she glanced at her phone. "Sorry, we've been trying so hard to hide this. But now it feels good that you know." "That I know what?" I could feel my breath quickening. "Alec went on a date with Mira tonight. He just texted me a picture of the two of them together. And they are so cute!" "Oh Bella, what is wrong with you? We didn't want to tell her until he handed over the divorce papers to her." Lolita said. "What? You see how brother still acts around her. He's unsure whether to divorce her or not. She must give him good sex, because I don't see why he hasn't handed over the divorce papers to her yet." "Maybe. That's why I hope things work out fast with Mira and Alec," Lolita said and she and Bella both nodded as if it was something normal. Then she turned to face me, "all this while you've been using yourself like a slave, meanwhile Alec has been thinking of a way to divorce you the past 6 months now." I was standing in shock, frozen completely on spot. I couldn't move even if I wanted to. It was like my legs were glued to the ground to hold my balance, and if I moved I could faint. I had my suspicions with that Mira girl, but I didn't think their relationship was serious enough that he would think about handing me a divorce paper! "So you know all about this and none of you told me before?" I asked, realizing I sounded like a fool now. Both Lolita and Bella laughed out. "Oh you are so stupid," Lolita said, shaking her head. "He doesn't love you anymore. Why is that so hard for you to believe? Just leave already." Bella said with a warning tone. My shoulders ached as they dropped, my chest hurt. Slowly, I managed to find my way upstairs to our room. This was too hard to believe. As I crashed on the bed, I got a notification from Bella and I saw it was a picture of Alec with that darn secretary. Alec barely smiled, he was always too serious and overwhelmed with work. But here he was smiling so happily with his secretary! I felt dumb and disappointed in myself. No matter what I did, Alec would never love me. Exhaling heavily, I looked around the room and didn't know when tears had began to drop freely from my eyes. So this was the end? Maybe I needed a break at least. He was about to divorce me anyway, so why don't I just leave first? I dialed a number that in my wildest dream, never believed I would be calling. It was our family's butler, Gabriel. "Hello miss, it's been too long." He said in his well toned voice. I sniffed in, "Gabriel? Please come and pick me. I want to come home. I would have called grandpa but I'm too scared of what he would think of me!" I blurted out my fear, waiting for Gabriel to give me one of his fatherly advises. "Okay miss. I will send the driver over right now." My heart was overwhelmed with joy at his reply. "But might I just ask, are you doing alright?" I blinked back a tear, "let's just say that I'll be fine once I leave this place." "Okay miss. Give me one hour." He assured before hanging up. I laid on the bed like a little baby, "this is it, Alec. Goodbye." After a while seeing I've gotten my strength, I got up and began to arrange my bag. My grandpa's mansion wasn't too far from Alec' place so I knew the driver would be around in the next thirty minutes. Before I knew it, I had gathered all my bags and arranged in three boxes. I came in here mostly with my clothes anyway, and that was what I would be leaving with. I left all of the gifts I had received from Alec...they never came from his heart anyway. But the one he got me that day for our anniversary, a pair of a lovely diamond earring was too beautiful to abandon, and too special for me to let go. I threw it inside my purse and realized I was all set. My phone buzzed and I saw it was Gabriel. "Is he here now?" I asked and after getting a confirmation from Gabriel, I went downstairs to check. On my way downstairs, Lolita and Bella were still relaxed on the couch, this time playing loud annoying music and singing loudly to it. I ignored and walked past them, then came in with the driver to help me carry some of my stuff. "Hey where are you taking this stranger to? This is your husband's house and we're even here. Have some respect!" Lolita queried. In a calm tone, I replied. "This is Mike, my driver. I'm leaving, Lolita. Just as you and your witch daughter have always wanted. I hope you live happily ever after with Alec." Lolita and Bella only stared with eyes widened in shock and I realised I had called her name so direct instead of sweet words like 'mother' or 'madam Lolita'. "Who are you to disrespect my mom!--" Bella was saying but got cut off by Lolita. "That's okay. This is good news, don't you get it? Let her get the hell out of our lives for good now! Leave her." She said and they both got out of my way, whispering and giggling in a corner. I ignored them and went upstairs with Mike, gathered my stuff and was walking out when Lolita called out my name. "I hope you didn't steal any of my son's property! I should have the security search you actually." Lolita said behind me. "Respect yourself, Lolita. Otherwise, you'll regret it." Even I was surprised at how commanding I sounded. Lolita instantly backed off, holding on to her daughter's arms. They said nothing again and that was when I turned to leave. Hopefully, I never see them again. Because if I do, it would be a different me, one who would no longer sit around and take their insults.Meghan's POV "Meghan wait up right now!" Alec's tone was deafening, threatening maybe. How was it that I still found myself falling for this man? Wasn't it clear already that he didn't love me? Or at the very least, he was confused. "You're raising your voice like an uncivilized human. Everyone's looking." I made my tone stern. He paused, then smiled to himself. "This is funny, you know? I want to reset everything right now. From the time you packed your things to leave, when you started to dare me." "Okay, go on," I rolled my eyes. "I'm giving you till tonight to move back. Otherwise, you've made an enemy with the Andersons." He threatened. "You're so stupid you dunno what's about to hit you. But I can save you," Anger filled me now as I continued to listen to his trash. I made it a mental note right that instant not to depend on any man again. I would ace my training and accept support from Adrian, but won't depend on him. Or anyone else again. "Go to hell, Alec." I w
Alec's POV. I was late. No matter how hard I tried, I was always late. The class had started minutes ago, but luckily for me, it was just a casual introduction going on. Silence filled the room as I stepped inside, all eyes fell on me. There was a tall man who was in front, addressing everyone. "Oh at last, you've managed to join us, my name is Philip Banks. What about you?" "Alec. Alec Anderson." I said, while searching around for a seat to take. Everyone were seated in twos, so there was barely a seat that hadn't been filled up already. Then...she raised her hand up and smiled. "This seat is free, come sit here." I couldn't believe my eyes. Meghan? "Welcome Mr Alec, present CEO of Dexton Enterprise. You'd have to come up with the explanation of how you came up with that name. I heard the theory was interesting." Said Philip. I guess I was angry that she even kept a seat for me. After our last conversation, she clearly made me feel so low about myself! Now she was
Meghan's POV I stepped into the building, my heart racing a little. This training would make me end up in an unnecessary reunion with an old college arrogant brat, Paulina Shay, who was now a proud successful CEO of a small firm, it was doing so well she gained fame while she made advertisement.Paulina always looked down on me, and had a gift with making everyone hated me even without knowing me yet. I was saved in my final years because she suddenly got transferred to another school, only lord knew what happened.Besides people like Paulina, there would be other bullies too, I just knew that. I was accompanied by Martins, Jade's driver and sometimes his PA. "It's this way miss." He said, when I started heading the wrong way."Of course. Thanks." I swallowed, admiring how marvelous the building truly was. It was an opportunity just being part of this training. "Before we gather all trainees, Mr Jade would like to see you privately." I nodded and followed him to Jade's office. He
Alec's POV I tried to be good, but I clearly wasn't. Our last conversation had been torturing enough, and now I see her in my dreams too? She was making the bed and smiling as she sighted me. "Remember our first night together? It was magnificent!" She said, then wiggled her index finger for me to come closer. As I get closer, a loud wreck fell and stood in between us. A wreck, like a wall, falling inside the room?! Wasn't that a sad depiction of our current relationship? She had sent a reminder email of when we would be going to the court to finalize our divorce. I didn't like losing...but worse, I didn't like living alone. Now, my mom and Bella never visit. It was always just the maids and I, in the big apartment. Everything reminds me that she's no longer with me. I didn't think it would hurt this much! I heaved in, arranging the clusters of papers that rested on my table. My secretary came in, "Um sir, you have a call from Mr Anderson." I rolled my eyes. He had my
Jade's family were a mess! Much worse than Lolita and Bella could ever be. And at least, Alec dad was nicer. Jade's family were wide, but they all were the same. Right from his abuela down to his cousins. They were brats, a proud household wealthy and rich that they could never ever grow broke. Even their youngest one around four months old was already a billionaire! "Jade is risking so much just by being your friend. Imagine what would happen if they found out you were dating? Whatever is going on between you two, terminate it as quickly as possible. Adrian is kind and soft, and has always loved you no matter how he denied it." After he left, leaving me alone as I headed to the rest room, I clearly believed what grandpa had been talking about. Life was so unfair. Jade was so calm and good but was born into such family. Alec too, was mostly influenced by his mother and sister, believed whatever they said over me. I was heading back to the party because it was hosted outside his m
Meghan's POV "He wants to get married soon, let's hope you're the one he settles down with." He added. Jade winced. I made a mental note to meet him and ask why he acted grumpy whenever Adrian was being mentioned! At the party, Adrian walked over to us as he heard of our arrival. He wore a fine suit and maintained a nice smile. "You made it, Mr Price." He then turned to me and reached for my hand, kissing it gently, "Meghan," our eyes lingered for a moment before he let go of my hand. "And you, Mr. Jade. I see you made it too." Jade smiled, although it didn't reach his eyes. "I accompanied Meghan. We go to most places together." "That's a little creepy, considering that she's a full grown adult who can take care of herself. Then again, maybe it's nice to see you playing the big brother role." Adrian said, smiling as Jade gritted his teeth. I stepped forward to intercept, "please let's all find somewhere to sit. I'm starving." I said, and it worked. "Of course, right t
