★A Day Before The Wedding★
Annelise’s POV
I could still remember how I couldn't get enough of him. My mind was blank; I was not in my right sense of mind. I must have been under the influence of a hard drug to have lost my virginity to a total stranger that night at the Harrington's mansion. I knew I lost it as I could still feel the pain between my thighs.
I jotted awake in my bed back at home. I started to think about how I should have known that my father was up to no good when he told me we were going out that night for business. I thought he would stop making my life miserable since I was not of any good to him.
I came down from my bed to the bathroom to clean up my messed up face, tomorrow I'll be married to Ethan Harrington. I hid my red face with layers of makeup that my friend Esther helped me with. She has no idea of the reason why I had been crying for weeks now. Even I myself am confused about the direction of my tears. Was it because I lost my first kiss, my virginity, and pride to a total stranger that night? Or because I have no say in marrying a man I barely know for business? Esther knew the marriage was not born out of love. She knew most of what I was facing with my family, and she has been a great help to me.
★Present★
I took my father's arms as we began the march to the altar. My husband-to-be was already there. When we got close, my father transferred my hand to Ethan, and we faced the Bishop. I quickly removed my hand from his, as his warm hand burned my cold one.
I half-listened to the Bishop as he spoke. When he asked the big question, facing Ethan, he answered, “Yes, I do.” The Bishop turned to me, “Do you, Anastasia Simon, take Ethan Harrington to be your wedded husband, to love and to hold, to cherish and respect, with your body in riches and in poverty, in health and in sickness, for better for worse, till death do you part?”
I looked around the hall; my eyes caught that of my father. Anastasia herself was absent. It was all their plans, as i presumed that Anastasia would be taking back her place once I have gained everything from the marriage, and I would go back to being Annelise, a nobody, and the neglected daughter.
My gaze started shifting to my in-laws, but Ethan cleared his throat, and I looked up at him. The veil covering my eyes was a cover for me at the moment. His face was hard while waiting for my answer.
I remembered my mother, swallowed my pride, and said, “Yes, I do,” which sealed my fate.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride,” the Bishop said.
Ethan turned me towards him, and my body reacted to his touch. I pulled back from his hand a little, and he pulled my veil over my head and looked me in the eyes.
I blinked back tears. I was not about to make a fool of myself right there. Ethan lowered himself and whispered in my ear so no one would hear, “Remember, this is all an act, so act your part well,” he said and pulled back.
Even his whisper sent shivers down my spine. I must get my act together. He did not wait for me as he captured my lips with a warm kiss which lasted for half a 10 seconds before he pulled away.
I almost wobbled to the floor, but Ethan caught me in his arms. That was how much his kiss and touch affected my whole body. He released me when he was sure I would not end up kissing the floor, and right then I knew I was in trouble. How could I react to him like this? How can I pretend when in public, if I am this affected by his kiss and touch?
We turned to the crowd, and people started congratulating us. I plastered a smile on my face as I accepted their greetings. I looked at Ethan and saw he was doing better than I was. How could he remain this cold and unaffected? Then his family came forward, and I tensed up beside him.
“I see you got yourself a bride finally,” a familiar voice said, and I gasped when I saw who it was. I should have known that the world is not so big; strangers could definitely meet each other.
Their attention turned to me, and I looked down at my bouquet. “Yes, Ken, meet my bride Anastasia,” Ethan said.
“Anastasia Harrington, what a nice ring. You look familiar though,” Ken said.
I avoided looking at his face as much as I can, but he was persistent in looking at me. “Is that how you greet your brother-in-law?” Ken asked.
What? Brother-in-law? Oh no, I'm doomed! It must really be a dream.
“Step brother-in-law,” Ethan corrected sharply.
“Does it matter? What have you been teaching your bride, Ethan, to be disrespectful?” Ken asked, looking at Ethan.
“You are blocking the line. Others would love to meet my dear wife,” Ethan said instead.
I knew from their conversation that the two of them do not like each other, and it looks like I am stuck in between the two families that would never accept me, more like jumping from frying pan to fire. Was Ken not the stranger I've been dreaming about? It's better not be true as I might actually be digging my own grave; it's only a matter of time before the truth would surface, and there would be no saving by then.
First, I'm Annelise, not Anastasia.
Second, Ken might actually be the stranger I lost my virginity to.
Third, Ethan is someone no one dares to be at odd terms with, given his rumors of organized crimes which makes him a formidable foe to anyone who dared to cross him.
“Ethan,” a female voice called out, breaking me from my chain of thought.
“Grandmother.”
“You need to start calling me ‘mother’ in public.”
“Don’t I know you? You are her,” the elderly stout woman said, raising my cheeks as I stared into the eyes of Ethan's grandmother. “The whore from Ken’s room.”
“My room? Oh, the Soulless Ginger from the other night,” Ken said, grinning from cheek to cheek, as I felt sick to the stomach with his devilish act.
“What do you mean? Why are you calling her a whore?” Ethan asked, confused about what's actually happening.
I swallowed heavily that I choked on my spot, I started coughing which started as an act but started becoming real gradually. I felt sick and dizzy at the same time.
“Hey, are you okay?” Ethan asked, grabbing my shoulders.
My eyes turned in my head, and I finally lost consciousness. I fell to my side, and I knew that someone caught me by my waist, but I had no idea who it was.

Annelise’s POV"Mrs. Harrington, are you with us?" a voice broke through my grogginess as I slowly opened my eyes, trying to focus on the unfamiliar surroundings."What happened to me, doc?" I asked, my head throbbing badly. I could deduce that was the doctor with the white coat and the stethoscope around his neck. The doctor leaned over me, checking my vitals. "You fainted during your wedding ceremony. But that's not the only thing you need to know," he said, handing over the test results to me.My eyes widened as I opened and read the content of the test results with shaky hands. Without even reading the contents of the result, I could feel that it wasn't something nice.On reading it, however, I was met with the biggest shock of my life."What is this?" I gasped."This is not possible," I said to the doctor, looking up to him with trembling lips. This has to be a joke; there's no way that is possible. I hadn't even had sex with anyone. My hazy mind must have made me forget that I h
Annelise's POVShit! How do I always manage to get myself in trouble, no matter how much I try to stay hidden?Ken spun around, his eyes blazing with anger. "Our little bride, why do you always find yourself in an unwanted place?" He moved closer to me menacingly.Ethan quickly stepped in, his fists balled up at his sides. "Anastasia, what do you think you're doing?" he demanded.Ken sneered at him. "I asked you a question." He pushed me forcefully to the ground, making me cry out in pain as I held my hand to my stomach protectively.I braced myself for a punch to the face, but Ethan intercepted Ken with a swift punch to his face."Leave the poor girl alone, Ken," Ethan growled, his eyes ablaze with anger. "You wouldn't want to drag her into your mess."Ken let out a devilish smile. "My mess? Well, I'll let this slide, but you know I always get whatever I want," he said before striding out of the room.I watched in shock as Ken left, my heart pounding in my chest violently. I was now
Annelise's POVA loud bang abruptly cut off the peaceful state I was in. My eyes opened in fright as I jumped off the unfamiliar bed I was sleeping on.I looked at the door to see, oh well, my husband. He looked nothing like the man I saw first two weeks ago and the one on the wedding day.His appearance was so rough that one would have mistaken him for another person.“Why are you staring at me that way?" He asked, almost growling.I looked away immediately, looking at the ground instead as though they were some interesting piece.I heard a door in the room open and close. I didn't even know what the room looked like since I barely saw the room before I cried myself to sleep last night. The room was really huge; it could pass for two and a half of my former room. The designs were just basic; one would have thought how huge and grand the room looked would mean the designs were beautiful and a lot.I was still admiring the room when the door from before opened again, and Ethan stepped
Annelise's POVMy heart missed a beat as I remembered the last time I saw her, which was practically yesterday but feels like ages.“She's waiting downstairs, what should I tell her?" She said, looking down at the loose gown I had on.“Uh, I'll just freshen up and come downstairs," I said, about to close the door, but Angela used her hand to stop it.“I’ll give you one tip about Amanda. She hates tardiness a lot.” Then she left me alone. What just happened? How is it even possible that it's still morning yet all this is already happening? I groaned out in frustration.I got into the bathroom, making sure I took along the clothes I wanted to wear with me so I wouldn't go outside half-clad in a towel. On taking off all my clothes, I got under the shower immediately without even admiring the bathroom like I would have done on a normal day. When I was done with bathing, I made the mistake of looking into the mirror. I've lost a lot of weight in the space of two weeks already out of unbala
Annelise's POVI watched as Ethan stormed out and banged the door, which made me startled. The glare he had on his face while saying those words to me would definitely be imprinted forever.I'm definitely not telling him about the pregnancy if he's always this way; I need to act fast. It can't get out.A whiff of air escaped my nose and mouth as I inhaled and exhaled loudly. A headache was starting to form already, and it's not even afternoon yet.I walked back to my room, deciding to call Esther. I really need to see or talk to someone who understands me, or I'd go crazy.“Sup b*tch, have you told him?" She asked the moment the call connected.“Yes, kind of. He agreed,” I muttered. She screeched into the phone loudly that I had to take the phone away from my ear.“What exactly did he say? Was he strict or was he sweet? I mean, it's not every day I know someone who gets married to a billionaire,” Esther rambled.‘If only you knew,’ I said to myself.“I'll text you the address now,” I s
Ethan's POV“Speak,” I said into the phone as the call connected. It was the home line, and I knew it could only be Angela. She's the only one who calls on that phone."Sir, your wife just brought in a new face into the house.”I frowned, looking at the screen once more to confirm whether I was really talking to the right person, and I was indeed talking to Angela.“And how's that your problem?" I asked.I heard her gulp on the other end of the call as though she was shocked at that response.“I just thought you would-’’ I interrupted her."Whatever happens with her isn't meant to be your business. Don't call me for something as trivial as this ever again.” Then I hung up.I've never talked to Angela that way before because I see her as a family member; she was practically there all through the time I grew up.I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. A lot of things are going wrong currently, and every time I think I'm this close to the solution, it gets even worse. The door to m
Annelise's POV“Damn! Now this is what we call a mansion! It's so beautiful!” Esther kept gushing over the house the moment we got in.A smile came up on my face. She kept looking around the room, almost forgetting that I was even there with her."Esther," I called her.She didn't even act like she heard me at all; she just kept looking around the room like she was in an art gallery.“Esther!” I yelled her name this time, making her look at me in fright. She walked over to me with her hand crossed over her chest."What is it?” She asked me."Can I have your attention now, dear friend?” I asked, raising up an eyebrow in a questioning stance.“Oh, sure. But I'm going to break your head if you don't allow me to check these out to my satisfaction,” she said, glaring at me in a manner that made her look kind of scary, but that can't work on me now.I just sighed and sat down on the couch as she checked everything to her satisfaction.Angela came in while Esther was still checking out thing
Annelise's POV I was woken up by the sound of a door opening; it was so loud that I jumped up on the really comfortable and soft surface I was sleeping on.“Who's that?" I questioned. I was the only one always sleeping in this room, how come someone just came in without knocking? Could it be my father? At the thought of it being my father, I sat upright on the bed, eager to hear what he has to say. It could be about my mother, who knows? It was when lights flickered on in the room that I remembered my current situation, and my husband was the one standing before me.He only glanced at me once and he entered the closet. He came out with a number of clothes.“Good evening." I greeted before he could leave the room. It's really evening? I looked out the window to see that it was evening and the blinds were still open.He nodded stiffly and left the room. As if on cue, a knock sounded on the door almost immediately after he left the room.I muttered a 'come in' and the door was pushed op
