Chapter 47

Ten years ago

Ricardo Kincaid was awakened by the sound of the police siren blaring in his head. He unconsciously tried to use his hand to find a pillow to cover his ears from the unpleasant noises, but his hand felt heavy, and as a  result, he gave up trying.

All of a sudden, he heard a man speaking through a megaphone, but he  couldn't make out what the man was saying at the time. He tried to open his eyes and stand up, but he was unable to do so. It appeared as though his body had a will of its own.

The man kept talking and talking, and after a minute, the man stopped talking, and Ricardo could hear the sound of someone trying to break down his door.

He thought to himself, "Ellen," and tried to get up, but he couldn't. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get up.
