Chapter 557

ผู้เขียน: Baby X
Miranda arrived at the Gibson estate to pick up Mia. The housekeeper invited her inside to sit for a moment, but Miranda politely declined. A minute later, Susan walked out holding Mia’s hand.

“Mommy!” Mia rushed into her arms, beaming.

Miranda lifted Mia and gave Susan a polite nod. “We’ll head out now.”

“Thank you for bringing her over,” Susan said.

Miranda paused for a moment. Susan had never said anything like that to her before.

“It wasn’t any trouble,” Miranda replied and carried Mia to the car.

“Wow, Mommy, is this my present?” Mia asked excitedly as she hugged the unopened gift box.

“Yes. Your dad bought it for you,” Miranda said truthfully.

Mia switched on the backseat light and happily started tearing the wrapping paper open.

When they arrived home, Mia carried the half-unwrapped present inside. Miranda was about to go upstairs when her phone rang. The caller ID was unfamiliar, though it was a domestic number.

She answered. “Hello? Who’s this?”

“Miranda? This is Ju

Fiona’s pen scraped harshly across the page, leaving a deep, jagged mark through her notes. She lifted her head and glared at Miranda, who was calmly explaining her ideas. A tight, burning jealousy churned in Fiona’s chest.“I believe synaptic regeneration theory,” Miranda said in a steady, professional voice, “is the key to solving the rejection issues in brain-computer interface integration.”“I agree with Miranda,” Sally said with a nod.Everyone else seemed just as impressed. Zion kept nodding along, clear admiration in his eyes.Fiona sat there in silence, her nails digging hard into her palm. Every expert in the room was a heavyweight in brain-computer interface research, yet Miranda was once again the one offering the key theoretical breakthroughs. The scene dragged her back to their days at the medical university. She remembered pulling Miranda aside and telling her very plainly to withdraw from the lab and go home to be a housewife. Those words felt like boomerangs now,

Felix’s grip tightened around Miranda’s arm. She whipped around, instinctively trying to pull free.“Let go of me.” Miranda yanked her arm hard.Felix looked at her with a storm of emotion in his eyes. His lips parted as if he wanted to say something, but the disgust in Miranda’s gaze hit him first. He could not believe she now recoiled from him this much.Miranda’s voice was sharp and cold. “Felix, let go. Otherwise, I’m calling the police.”Just then, the conference-room door opened from the outside. James stepped in. His expression darkened the moment he saw Felix gripping Miranda.“What are you doing, Mr. Gibson?” James’s voice was low.A moment later, Fiona appeared behind him, unable to hide her shock at the scene.Felix did not look at James. His eyes stayed locked on Miranda. The hatred and revulsion in her expression made his fingers loosen.James immediately reached out, took Miranda by the arm, and pulled her behind him in a protective stance.“Mr. Gibson, if you h

Felix had always thought Miranda lived in his shadow, dependent on him for direction. He was wrong.Miranda had talent. She had ambition. She had a path of her own.Two years ago, while Felix had no idea where she even was, she had already been standing at the forefront of their field.Felix felt a tight pull in his chest.Across the table, Fiona’s expression fell apart. She stared at the screen, then at Miranda, disbelief gathering in her eyes.Could it truly be Miranda who made the first breakthrough in the brain-computer interface project? It seemed impossible and completely absurd, yet the evidence sat right in front of her.The video shifted to the next scene.Miranda stood beside an examination platform with several researchers around her. She was attaching a brain-computer interface to a paralyzed monkey. After a few precise adjustments, her voice came through the speakers, steady and full of quiet resolve.“Begin the test.”The entire room held its breath. For sever

Felix walked over with Ben to greet the guests. Zion stepped out first with four members of his team. Felix extended his hand. “Welcome, Dr. Declan.”Zion’s attitude was noticeably different from the last time they met. He smiled as he shook Felix’s hand. “Hi, Mr. Gibson.” Then his eyes moved to Miranda, and his smile warmed. “Miranda.”“Uncle Zion.” Miranda greeted him politely. She also nodded at Sally and Jucas.Everyone in the company knew Miranda’s history with Zion. She had nearly joined his research team years ago.Zion turned back to Felix. “Miranda was once my most outstanding student. And she is the daughter of a very close friend.”Felix’s gaze slid to Miranda, deep and unreadable. “I know.”Ben stepped forward. “Dr. Declan, the conference room is ready. This way please.”“Good. Let’s begin,” Zion said, and the group followed Ben into the elevator.Miranda stepped in after Zion. Felix entered right behind her. James and Fiona stayed outside. The elevator wasn’t crowd

Miranda frowned slightly. Ben’s explanation only half-convinced her. She decided she would take a closer look at the robot herself before forming an opinion. She hung up the phone and returned to the living room just in time to see Mia happily playing with the robot. Mia tilted her head and asked in a soft, sweet voice, “Airi, I want to hear Daddy tell a story.”The robot’s eyes blinked twice. A moment later, Felix’s gentle voice flowed out of the speaker. “Mia, what story would you like to hear?”“Wow! It really sounds like Daddy!” Mia clapped excitedly. “I want The Little Mermaid.”Miranda stood off to the side, brow furrowing again. Felix had even recorded his own voice for the robot. She could not deny that it was, in its own way, a form of fatherly presence.“Airi, come here. Follow me.”Mia walked toward the sofa, and the robot followed behind her. When she sat down, the robot stopped in front of her. Felix’s deep and magnetic voice began narrating the fairy tale in a warm,

Miranda frowned when she noticed the DE label printed on the box. It had clearly come from one of DE’s engineering teams.Mia clapped excitedly, tugging on Miranda’s sleeve. “Mom, open it. I want to see what it is.”Miranda and Mrs. Young carried the box inside and started unpacking it. Inside was a robot a little over a meter tall, painted pink, with a human-shaped head. It looked like a companion robot designed for children.“Wow.” Mia’s eyes sparkled as she reached out and gently touched its head.Miranda switched the robot on. A soft, young girl’s voice came from the speaker. “Hello, my name is Airi. What’s your name?”“My name is Mia,” she answered very seriously.“Hello, Mia. From now on, I am your best friend,” the robot said. “I can tell stories, sing songs, help you with homework, go for walks with you, and I can contact your mom or dad anytime you need me.”Miranda felt a slight jolt of surprise. This robot clearly did more than interactive AI responses. It was also eq
