53 - Sly can see through the lies
"I'm sorry Monica, my surprise has been ruined..."
Sly disappointedly said, shifting his attention back to Veronica on the phone, "I'll be there in 30 minutes," he murmured and hung up.
Monica felt uneasy. "Is everything alright?" She asked Sly who seemed displeased after the phone conversation.
"It's my mum. She said I need to come home at this instant. She also said it's an emergency," Sly reiterated to Monica.
Monica rested the back of her head on the headrest of the car seat, uneasiness dripping over her mien. Her instinct said that something wasn't right. 'Sly's dad is home and should be able to take care of any emergency right?'. "What about your dad?"
Sly's gaze was focussed on the road as he uttered, "He went back to London a few hours ago. He will be back in a few days."

Having realized that the couple was asleep, Veronica finally got onto her feet. It was past midnight and the lights were off.
