Chapter 38

Emiliana

It was late in the evening, dinner had finished and we had taken a walk through the dimly lit gardens. The hedges that lined the paths were pruned to perfection, not a leaf was out of place. The atmosphere was still a little tense between us and I was impatiently waiting for Luciano to apologise for his behaviour earlier. The air remained frigid and cold as we strolled hand in hand, my shoulders shivered, bare to the bitter breeze that stroked over my skin. I was beginning to feel the setting chill in my bones and much to Luciano’s annoyance, I had asked to return to the mansion.

“You don’t need a bodyguard. You have me.” Luciano voiced his thoughts with conviction as he pulled the sheets back from the bed. 

“It’s what my father wants.” I replied,
