40. Start All Over

"Staying confined to your room throughout the day was not a bad idea. Why would you suddenly decide to come out?" he muttered, his eyes briefly raking over my body as if checking for any signs of harm, it lingered in my neck for a while before he glanced up. His dark abyssal eyes bore into my hazel eyes.

"That too, as late as 11 PM" he continued, dismissing my question as he directed a curious gaze towards me.

As my gaze shifted from the lifeless body of the guard sprawled on the floor, a surge of fear washed over me. This wasn't the first time he killed someone in my presence. Did he perhaps derive some sick pleasure from it? First the auctioneer and now the guard. What assurance did I have that he wouldn't do the same to me someday?

Who knows.

Maybe I'll be the next.

He appeared completely unfazed about the fact that one of his guards lay dead on the floor with a fatal bullet wound piercing through his throat.
