Vivian's POV

I woke up to an empty bed.

The sheets beside me were cold, the indentation where Ethan had been already fading. I lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, letting the reality of my new life wash over me. I was Mrs. Ethan Blackwell now. Wife of a billionaire. Mistress of an estate that probably cost more than I can imagine.

It still didn't feel real.

I pushed myself up, wrapping the sheet around me as I walked to the window. The gardens stretched out below, perfectly manicured

Vivian's POVI woke to pale morning light filtering through the curtains, soft and golden, casting long shadows across the bedroom ceiling. For a moment, I didn't move. I just lay there, my cheek pressed against the cool pillowcase, my body heavy and warm beneath the silk sheets. The ache in my back had faded to a dull throb, a distant reminder of what had happened, but it was no longer the sharp, burning pain it had been days ago.I blinked, slowly, letting my eyes adjust to the light. The room was quiet, still. The curtains swayed gently in the breeze from the open window, carrying the scent of roses and fresh-cut grass.I turned my head, expecting to see Ethan beside me, but the bed was empty. The sheets on his side were undisturbed, perfectly smooth, as if he hadn't slept there at all. He'd been gone a lot lately. More than usual.I sat up slowly, wincing as the movement pulled at the healing skin on my shoulder. The gauze had been changed the night before, fresh and clean, and th

Vivian's POVThe silence stretched between us like an electric wire.Ethan's eyes were fixed on me, unblinking, the whiskey glass resting on the arm of his chair. The lamplight cast sharp shadows across his face, making him look harder, colder, more dangerous than I'd ever seen him."I asked you a question," he said, his voice low and even. "Where are you coming from?"I swallowed, my throat dry. My back was still burning, the ruined fabric of my dress clinging to my skin."The hospital," I said, my voice steadier than I expected. "I went to visit my mom.""The hospital." He repeated the word like he was tasting it, testing it for lies. "And why are you coming back from the hospital by this time?"I hesitated. I didn't want to tell him. But I also knew I couldn't hide it. He'd find out eventually, and it would be worse if he heard it from someone else."Someone attacked me on my way out of the hospital, they threw acid at me," I said quietly. "In the parking lot."Ethan's expression s

Vivian's POVI woke up to sunlight streaming through the curtains and an empty space beside me. The sheets were still warm where he'd been. The indent of his body was still pressed into the mattress, like a ghost of the night before. But Ethan was gone. I reached out, my fingers brushing the fabric, and found a small note on the pillow with a neat, sharp handwriting.“Off to work. See you when I get back.”I lay there for a moment, holding the paper, then I checked my phone and saw the reminder I'd set days ago.Mom’s hospital visit. 10 AM.Shit.I'd almost forgotten. Guilt twisted in my chest as I scrambled out of bed, had my bath and threw on a simple sundress, running a brush through my hair and calling it good.I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs, already mentally preparing myself for the fluorescent lights and antiseptic smell of the hospital. The house was quiet. A few staff members nodded as I passed, but no one stopped me. I made it to the front door before one of the guar

Vivian's POVMy eyes flew open, my heart lurching into my throat. I sat up, squinting into the darkness, and there he was.Ethan.He stood in the doorway, silhouetted against the dim light from the hallway. He was shirtless, wearing only a pair of low-slung boxers that hung on his hips like they were made for him. The light caught the planes of his chest, the ridges of his abdomen, the sharp V that disappeared beneath the waistband. His shoulders were broad, his arms defined, every line of him carved like a sculpture that had been chiseled to perfection.I swallowed hard.He was beautiful. There was no other word for it. Beautiful in a way that made my throat go dry and my fingers itch to reach out and touch. His skin looked warm in the dim light, his chest rising and falling with each steady breath. There was a light dusting of hair across his pectorals, trailing down his stomach in a thin line that disappeared beneath the waistband of his boxers. His jaw was sharp, shadowed with the

Staff moved in the distance, small figures going about their day in this beautiful, unfamiliar world I'd married into.A knock at the door made me turn."Come in."A young woman in a crisp uniform entered, carrying a tray with coffee and pastries. "Good morning, Mrs. Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell asked me to bring you breakfast. He's already left for his morning meeting."Mrs. Blackwell. The name still felt strange on my ears."Thank you," I said, taking the t

Vivian's POVThe sky was a perfect, cloudless blue. As if the universe itself approved of this farce.I stood in the bridal suite of the Blackwell estate, surrounded by silk and flowers and the soft hum of last-minute preparations. Sarah was zipping me into my gown… a fitted lace masterpiece."Vivian?" My mother's voice, tentative. "May I come in?"I exchanged a glance with Sarah. "Come in."The door opened, and my mother stepped inside. She was dressed in a soft sage dress, her silver hair pinned elegantly, her eyes already glistening. She stopped when she saw me, her hand rising to her mouth."Oh, sweetheart," she breathed. "You look...""Like a bride?" I offered a small smile. She crossed the room, her arms opening, and I stepped into them. She smelled like lavender and home, and for a moment, I let myself melt into her warm embrace."I'm so proud of you," she whispered.I pulled back, squeezing her hands. “Thanks, mom.”Nathan appeared in the doorway, looking handsome in his tuxed
