Chapter 7

The color on Selena’s face changed from pale to red, and from red to green, and then back again.

People were pointing fingers at her. She was disheartened as she started to see her route to stardom waning. ‘I had got to save myself,’ she thought.

She thought of the message she received on the phone. Gritting her teeth, she got to her feet and retaliated. “Who do you think you are? Didn’t you fool around with men all this while? What right do you have to lecture us?”

She rushed up to Jean and pulled the beaded tassel shawl off her shoulders to expose all the love bites that Jean was so desperate to cover up in front of the cameras. Every adult at the scene could quickly tell what those marks were about.

This time, there was a bigger uproar. All eyes and cameras were on Jean.

Anne’s hands and feet were trembling because of excitement, her eyes bursting with euphoria. She knew that this was the most exciting moment that her mom had talked about.

Jean was the most famous actress and the brightest star in show business.

Even if she did nothing, she would have all the favors and adoration in the world. The media regarded her as a goddess.

So Anne deliberately approached Jean and became her best friend. All that was just for today—the day of the destruction of Jean’s career, reputation, and life.

Jean was finished.

Jean clenched her hands, knowing that she might not survive the scandal this time.

“How did you know?” She stared deadly at Selena.

“Are you afraid of people finding out that the goddess in their eyes is a whore?”

Slap!

Jean slapped Selena in the face. Selena almost lost her balance.

Jean then slowly dropped her hand on her side. “I should have slapped you yesterday.”

Patrick gritted his teeth. He came up and pulled Selena behind him. “I was wondering why you wore a shawl today. Apparently, it was to cover up your shameless act. You make me sick, Jean.”

Jean sneered. This man, whom she was supposed to marry, still had the nerve to demand his woman to be faithful to him when he was a womanizer.

“Did you really sleep around with other men behind Patrick’s back?”

“Who was that man? There has been a rumor that you have a backer. Was this backer the man you slept with?”

Those reporters swarmed around Jean as if cannibalistic beasts smelled blood. For them, news of a goddess’s fall from grace was much more explosive than Patrick sleeping with a little known actress.

When Jenny snapped back from the shock, she rushed up with her staff to separate Jean from the crowd.

“Thank you all for coming today. This is a misunderstanding. Please leave her alone. We will give you an explanation later.”

Jean pulled Jenny aside. She wiped the lipstick off her lips with the back of her hand, leaving behind a trail of red on her cheek.

It was the worst moment of her life. But she gave the impression that she was still in control.

The grave look in her eyes could not hide her beauty, which was something inborn, radiating brightly, like the scorching sun.

She gave those aggressive reporters the once-over. “So what if I did?”

There was no sophistry. Instead, she gave them the answer they were hoping for.

Her reply stunned those reporters so much that they did not know what to ask next.
