He Is Asking Of His Mother

Violet Pov

I needed to rest! Can't they just understand that doctors are humans too? We don't have super powers!

Shutting my eyes, I ran my hand through my golden wavy hair which I had to tie in a ponytail before putting on my surgical cap. I had discarded my operation gown and cap so I could take a quick nap before going to the canteen to grab a bite.

I didn't sleep well last night either… quite unfortunate, right? But that was me, Doctor Violet Myers!

I brought out my purse to check the money left in it. Sighing, I took a peep at the wallet and I knew I was done for. I was definitely going to starve after today.

That was the last money left with me and I was thinking if I should ask for an advance so I won't go broke all through the month? Would my boss be so gracious?

"So much for this month! I wonder if Charles had found a job already," I murmured to myself, thinking about my lazy ass brother.

As I was thinking of what to do, someone barged into my office, looking anxious. Looking up I saw Nurse Abby.

Not again, I thought.

" Doctor Violet! You are needed in the theater room! It's a critical condition!"

" Critical condition? What happened?"

" A little boy and his father were involved in an accident and the boy suffered a head injury. He needs an operation as soon as possible," Nurse Abby said.

" Alright, I will be there. Get the necessary equipment ready," I said, standing up quickly.

I immediately picked up my coat and rushed out of the office to the surgery room.

My team and I were in the surgery room for more than two hours trying our best because it was quite a tricky case. If we aren't careful the little boy might have serious complications that can lead to internal blood clotting which was fatal.

"What do we do, doctor?" My assistant surgeon, Doctor Joe asked.

"Let's go with option A. If it's successful, the boy should be alright in less than 8 hours," I said, biting my lips

It was a risk we had to take but then the side effects were a little… complicated.

Finally, we were through with the surgery and the lights to the operation room went off. I was damn tired and hungry!

All I wanted that instant was to rush to my office to freshen up and then go to the canteen for a late night snack.

"Violet, are you okay?" Doctor Joe asked, looking at my frustrated expression.

"Dammit! I am on the verge of breaking down!" I said, rolling my eyes.

I heard him chuckling at my words before patting my shoulders," That's why you have me, sweetheart. I got a takeout in your office. So just freshen up and eat."

Oh my!

I looked at him gratefully and would have embraced him if I wasn't all sweaty." I owe you one, Joe"

Doctor Joe just smiled and turned around to leave.

I also decided to go to my office, luckily, there were no dramatic relatives of the person around.

But just as I turned around to leave, my eyes locked on a fierce looking pair of hazel eyes that seemed to bore through me.

There was something familiar about him that I just can't picture.

"My son… how is he?" His icy voice brought me back to reality.

"Your son?" I asked, confused.

Then my brain clicked and began to connect the dots. No wonder he looked a little familiar. The little boy they just operated on was his son?

"Oh! He is out of danger and has been wheeled to the ICU. He will be awake anytime soon. You can go and meet him if you want" I said, showing him the way to the ICU.

The man was about to say something when he held his head in pain.

I looked at him in concern." Are you alright, Mr?"

Being the doctor I was, I wanted to show my concern to him by trying to hold him when the man's glare stopped me.

Ouch! That hurts… my pride, I guess.

He waved me off as he struggled to walk to the place I pointed to him.

So arrogant!

Feeling hungry, I forgot about him and walked towards my office again so I could eat something.

I was about to enter my office when a nurse came running towards me again.

"What is it this time around? I am not going to do any surgery until I have eaten!" I said but the nurse shook her head.

So much for being a doctor!

I just sighed at my miserable life right now but as a pediatrician, I can't let my patients down. How could I let those adorable children go through pain?

I knew I was in for another round of surgery that might last for several hours! But then, I still have to save those cuties!

*****

It's been hours at the surgical room. I was so tired that I slumped down tiredly on my chair in the office. I took a rest for five minutes before going to freshen up.

When I got back, I took out the take out that Joe ordered for me. It was already cold so I had to make do with the snacks inside. Just as I was munching on the food, my office door was pushed open.

"Not another surgery!" I said, looking at the nurse tiredly.

"That's not it, Doctor Violet. The little boy we just operated on is awake and asking for his mother!" The nurse said.

"Awake? So soon? That's…"

"You have to go and check on him!" The nurse said, frantically.

What was my business if he was looking for his mother? Shouldn't his father take control of that?

"Why am I needed if he is asking for his mother?" I asked, raising my brows.

"That's because he has no mother, Doctor," the nurse replied.

"What?"

Was he delusional due to the operation?
