Chapter 4

Grace looked lost.

A maid came forward and gently asked her, “Miss, do you need something?”

Grace stared at the maid in front of her. She was confused of where she was.

She looked at her surroundings. It was a bedroom. There weren't many things used for decoration but the simplicity looked elegant. As someone from a rich family herself, she could tell that the things in the room were definitely expensive.

She tried to remember how she ended up here, but her head became dizzy and she fell back on the pillow.

The maid assisted her to sit and advised, “ Miss, don't take stress. The doctor has given you some medication as you were unwell. You might feel dizzy for sometime. Don't think too much. I'll bring some porridge for you. After you have eaten, you can ask me anything you want.”

The young maid left the room. Grace looked at her left hand. Her left forearm stinged a little. She concluded she might have been given a shot.

At this moment she also realized that she was changed into a beautiful and comforting night gown.

She definitely wasn't wearing this before as all her clothes were barely decent enough.

A few moments later, the maid entered the room with a bowl of watery porridge and a plate of juicy fruits.

“The doctor said that it would be better to feed you food that has more water.” The maid explained, when she saw her looking at the tray.

She sat it down gently on an elongated table that could be stretched across the bed.

“Where is this place?” Grace asked with a hoarse voice.

“Miss, I think you should eat first. You have trouble speaking. I will explain everything that I know but you must have some food before”

Grace, herself felt uncomfortable and with no energy.

She thought, she might just have a little first. She was feeling hungry as well.

Dawson Mansion

The living room was more gloomy and oppressing than any other day.

An old man with a head full of white hair and a tall but thin body, caressed his beard as he read a document.

The others present, did not make any sound and just sat quietly.

The old man put the document on the coffee table and glanced at every individual present in the room.

His gaze stopped at his two Grandsons. While the elder one sat with a cold, noble and unapproachable aura, the younger one was sitting in a respected manner but he would be a fool if he couldn't detect the ruthlessness that was emitting from him.

Archer glanced at his Grandfather, Old Master Dawson. He was the only one in the room who was brave enough to hold eye contact with him.

It was one of the qualities that made the old man favor him more over his other grandchildren, Archer feared no one.

And that's what was required of a leader to lead a family as powerful as the Dawson's.

“Secretary Zhong, inform them of todays matter.”

Receiving the order from Old Master Dawson, a middle-aged man stepped ahead , “To everyone present here today, the Old Master wishes to announce that the selection for the new leader would be announced next month at the company's annual anniversary.”

All the members of the family were shocked, the selection wouldn't have been held until next year based on the past selections.

The next leader of the Dawson Family would be announced every 25 years.

There was still an year left.

“But Grandpa isn't there an year left, why next month?” An agitated voice came from the front.

Miles looked at the Young man. Joseph Dawson. He smirked and looked at his “father” across him, who was looking just as agitated but was trying to hold back.

How could he not know the reason?

He looked at his Grandfather who was staring at Joseph in displeasure and spoke, “Then, Grandpa I think Brother would be the most suitable one. Considering he is the most qualified.”

Joseph looked at Miles in anger. This brat wouldn't let him live peacefully. He was motivated to take everything from him.

Old Master Dawson replied, “Everyone from the younger generation has a chance but if Archer wants to win, he must be married first.”

Archer's eyes grew cold. He had suspected that the old man was trying to come up with something.

Miles looked at his brother in alarm. “But Grandpa, you know that Brother is not too keen on marrying.”

“I know. That is why I have put this condition. Archer and this family would need a heir in the future. If he wants something, he must give something in return too.”

Old Master Dawson's voice was firm. It didn't leave any place for negotiation.

Joseph looked at the scene and smirked in happiness. Who didn't know, how much Archer hated marriage.

There was no way he would marry someone. And if that was the case, he would only have to eliminate Miles for the position.

Archer looked at his Grandfather. There was challenge in his eyes.

The Old Man didn't fear him, so he naturally didn't take it seriously.

“That girl from the Swan family isn't bad. Why don't I set a meeting for you to meet her with Mr. Swan.”

Archer stood up and buttoned his suit jacket, looked at his Grandfather and said, “I'll be leaving.”

He strode out of the living room and than the Mansion without so much as glancing at anyone.

Miles, didn't waste time and followed his brother out after bidding his Grandfather goodbye.

“Brother. It's quite a serious matter. The Old Man wouldn't go back on his words.”

Miles said and drove out the mountains.

Archer was still looking outside the window. Deep in thoughts.

Getting no reply from his brother, Miles didn't say anything and just focused on driving.

After dropping Archer off, Miles went to his own villa. His brother needed some time to think and he must give him that.

As Archer entered the Villa, the head maid came to take his coat and inform him that the lady in the guest room was already awake for quite a few hours.

Archer went to the guestroom and knocked on the door.

When the maid inside replied Yes, he gently opened the door and entered.

The maid saw that it was the Master, she quickly greeted him and left the room.

Grace looked at the man, who just entered the room. The room was quite spacious but his tall and lean stature, somehow made it appear small.

His face was clean and fair. He was a charming man. But what was the most beautiful about him was the mole on the side of his left eye.

And those eyes, they were staring straight at her. Emotionless, cold, empty.

Oh those eyes!

She suddenly remembered the eyes, when she woke up a few hours ago, she slowly started remembering the happenings of the previous day, including how she was saved by a man.

But she couldn't clearly remember his face.

And now, he was standing right in front of her.

She wanted to speak but she couldn't find her words.

Maybe he is just too handsome that I lost my tongue.

Her face blushed at the thought.

She scolded herself mentally and told herself that she should at least say him, her thanks.

But the man spoke, even before she could open her mouth.

“Miss Grace, you must marry me!”
