Grace looked lost.
A maid came forward and gently asked her, “Miss, do you need something?”Grace stared at the maid in front of her. She was confused of where she was.She looked at her surroundings. It was a bedroom. There weren't many things used for decoration but the simplicity looked elegant. As someone from a rich family herself, she could tell that the things in the room were definitely expensive. She tried to remember how she ended up here, but her head became dizzy and she fell back on the pillow. The maid assisted her to sit and advised, “ Miss, don't take stress. The doctor has given you some medication as you were unwell. You might feel dizzy for sometime. Don't think too much. I'll bring some porridge for you. After you have eaten, you can ask me anything you want.”The young maid left the room. Grace looked at her left hand. Her left forearm stinged a little. She concluded she might have been given a shot.At this moment she also realized that she was changed into a beautiful and comforting night gown. She definitely wasn't wearing this before as all her clothes were barely decent enough.A few moments later, the maid entered the room with a bowl of watery porridge and a plate of juicy fruits.“The doctor said that it would be better to feed you food that has more water.” The maid explained, when she saw her looking at the tray. She sat it down gently on an elongated table that could be stretched across the bed.“Where is this place?” Grace asked with a hoarse voice.“Miss, I think you should eat first. You have trouble speaking. I will explain everything that I know but you must have some food before”Grace, herself felt uncomfortable and with no energy. She thought, she might just have a little first. She was feeling hungry as well.Dawson MansionThe living room was more gloomy and oppressing than any other day.An old man with a head full of white hair and a tall but thin body, caressed his beard as he read a document. The others present, did not make any sound and just sat quietly. The old man put the document on the coffee table and glanced at every individual present in the room. His gaze stopped at his two Grandsons. While the elder one sat with a cold, noble and unapproachable aura, the younger one was sitting in a respected manner but he would be a fool if he couldn't detect the ruthlessness that was emitting from him.Archer glanced at his Grandfather, Old Master Dawson. He was the only one in the room who was brave enough to hold eye contact with him.It was one of the qualities that made the old man favor him more over his other grandchildren, Archer feared no one.And that's what was required of a leader to lead a family as powerful as the Dawson's.“Secretary Zhong, inform them of todays matter.”Receiving the order from Old Master Dawson, a middle-aged man stepped ahead , “To everyone present here today, the Old Master wishes to announce that the selection for the new leader would be announced next month at the company's annual anniversary.”All the members of the family were shocked, the selection wouldn't have been held until next year based on the past selections. The next leader of the Dawson Family would be announced every 25 years. There was still an year left.“But Grandpa isn't there an year left, why next month?” An agitated voice came from the front.Miles looked at the Young man. Joseph Dawson. He smirked and looked at his “father” across him, who was looking just as agitated but was trying to hold back. How could he not know the reason? He looked at his Grandfather who was staring at Joseph in displeasure and spoke, “Then, Grandpa I think Brother would be the most suitable one. Considering he is the most qualified.”Joseph looked at Miles in anger. This brat wouldn't let him live peacefully. He was motivated to take everything from him.Old Master Dawson replied, “Everyone from the younger generation has a chance but if Archer wants to win, he must be married first.”Archer's eyes grew cold. He had suspected that the old man was trying to come up with something.Miles looked at his brother in alarm. “But Grandpa, you know that Brother is not too keen on marrying.”“I know. That is why I have put this condition. Archer and this family would need a heir in the future. If he wants something, he must give something in return too.”Old Master Dawson's voice was firm. It didn't leave any place for negotiation.Joseph looked at the scene and smirked in happiness. Who didn't know, how much Archer hated marriage. There was no way he would marry someone. And if that was the case, he would only have to eliminate Miles for the position.Archer looked at his Grandfather. There was challenge in his eyes. The Old Man didn't fear him, so he naturally didn't take it seriously.“That girl from the Swan family isn't bad. Why don't I set a meeting for you to meet her with Mr. Swan.”Archer stood up and buttoned his suit jacket, looked at his Grandfather and said, “I'll be leaving.”He strode out of the living room and than the Mansion without so much as glancing at anyone.Miles, didn't waste time and followed his brother out after bidding his Grandfather goodbye.“Brother. It's quite a serious matter. The Old Man wouldn't go back on his words.”Miles said and drove out the mountains.Archer was still looking outside the window. Deep in thoughts.Getting no reply from his brother, Miles didn't say anything and just focused on driving. After dropping Archer off, Miles went to his own villa. His brother needed some time to think and he must give him that.As Archer entered the Villa, the head maid came to take his coat and inform him that the lady in the guest room was already awake for quite a few hours.Archer went to the guestroom and knocked on the door. When the maid inside replied Yes, he gently opened the door and entered. The maid saw that it was the Master, she quickly greeted him and left the room.Grace looked at the man, who just entered the room. The room was quite spacious but his tall and lean stature, somehow made it appear small. His face was clean and fair. He was a charming man. But what was the most beautiful about him was the mole on the side of his left eye.And those eyes, they were staring straight at her. Emotionless, cold, empty.Oh those eyes! She suddenly remembered the eyes, when she woke up a few hours ago, she slowly started remembering the happenings of the previous day, including how she was saved by a man.But she couldn't clearly remember his face. And now, he was standing right in front of her.She wanted to speak but she couldn't find her words.Maybe he is just too handsome that I lost my tongue. Her face blushed at the thought. She scolded herself mentally and told herself that she should at least say him, her thanks. But the man spoke, even before she could open her mouth.“Miss Grace, you must marry me!”Grace looked at the man in disbelief. She stared at him for quite a few seconds. In disbelief. Did she actually hear him right?Archer looked at the expression on her face and pulled a chair to sit beside her bed.She backed away from the sudden closeness. She wasn't uncomfortable but just defensive in the act. He looked at her, his mind coming up with something but he brushed the thought away for mean time.“Miss Grace. I'm Archer Dawson. 27 years old. I know everything about you that I need to know. If you want to know more about me, you can just ask.”“Mr. Dawson, I don't know you. We have never met before, why do you want to marry me?”“Don't take me wrong Miss Grace. I'm proposing this marriage, purely on the idea of benefit.”“But it would only be beneficial to you, but it's my whole life. If you know about me, you might be aware of my past. I know I haven't lived the best life but I'm not just going to marry a stranger.”Archer stared at her firm expression. She was straight w
“What do you mean by you don't know where she went?”Olivia looked at her daughter and replied, “I don't know Anna. They just told me that someone took her away, just when the auction started.”“So that means that they bought her right?”“No. The man told me that the bidding was yet to start when some man appeared on the stage and took her away brazenly. Without a word and without a cent!”“But, how could they let someone just barge in and take her. I'm sure they had security there, considering it is such a gathering of big shots.”Olivia massaged her head as she listened to her daughter's questions. She was infuriated and confused. Who would take Grace away, just like that. She thought she might make a few millions by selling her off but this happened! “Did they see his face?” Anna asked.“He was with another man, they were both wearing masks and had bodyguards with them. And it all happened so fast that they were out of the door, in the blink of an eye!”Olivia's enraged voice mad
The ride wasn't long. It was barely five minutes when they reached a beautiful villa. It was not in the same area as others and was basically secluded. It wasn't that big as well but it was beautiful and had a vintage look to it.Archer helped her out of the car and led her inside the villa. He took her through a corridor that led to a wonderful courtyard, which had a hut looking place that was decorated with flowers, and candles. He pulled the chair out for Grace and they both sat. Grace was about to ask him something when she heard footsteps behind her.A few men dressed in staff uniforms laid out a few appetisers on the table.“Miss Grace, I hope you like the dishes. I don't know about your usual likes and dislikes, so I just prepared a little bit of everything.”“Well…it doesn't really looks like a little Mr. Dawson.” She teased him with an amusing expression. The table was
(From this chapter onwards, the story would be in Grace's POV, with only a few exceptions where it would be Third Person POV.) (PS. A few chapters later there would be some steamy scenes. So make sure to check it out!) Today was the day, I was to get married to Archer Dawson. The next in line to succeed the Dawson Group. I was standing beside a Rolls Royce Ghost, that picked me up from the Villa as scheduled. I had gotten the message from Archer through the head maid to be ready on time. Now I was waiting outside for him to show up. Apparently, he was handling something very important. The reason why he wasn't the one to pick up his own “bride”.Dressed in a simple yet elegant long skirt and silk blouse, I assessed the surrounding. People were coming in and out of the building, every now and then. Mostly we're couples, adorning beautiful smiles. But I was the only one who could see them, as I was standing in a relatively private area. I looked at there content smiles, and a little
Grace Conner looked at the man that was slowly inching towards her in the dark of the night. He was none other than her step - brother, Adam. The room was dark, but even in this darkness she could see the malice and lust in his eyes. It was as if she could sense it.She had to get out of here, she has been avoiding him, from the moment he came from London. She didn't wanted to have anything with him, but unfortunately for her, Adam's perverted eyes had been on her since they were teens and she was brought to the Mansion after her mother's sudden death. He was drunk, the occasional stumbles and unsteady steps gave it away. She could've see his face but the movements of his shadow helped. But she knew, that even if he was drunk, his about 6 fit tall stature body with packed muscles would easily catch her.She couldn't resist or fight him physically, she had to use her mind. Her hand found the glass jug beside her bed.It was old but heavy, she could just hit him with enough force for
Grace ConnerWhen I woke up from my unconsciousness, it was eerily silent. She gazed outside the window of the room she was locked in.It was early morning hours. And judging by the silence in the Mansion, it was likely that every one was either asleep or not at home.It was likely that my step mother Olivia has gone to the hospital to take care of her son Adam. And Anna must have followed her as well. My father was never really around but he was always biased towards Adam because he was the son.Anyways, wherever they were, they weren't here right now.And this was my only chance at freedom. I had to get out of here before anyone came back.I looked at the window, it wasn't really hard to cross it. The hard part was to jump from it. This was the 3rd floor. If I fell, I would most like break a bone or two and considering the state of my body, it would only make it worse. But if not now, then never.I had no idea what they will do to me and where would I end up.I had to take this ch
Harvey AshtonI have witnessed blood more than anything in my life. Saw people dying in front of my eyes. And still, no feelings could be brought out of me.But this woman, she was something else.Maybe it was the desperation or the happiness in her eyes that caught me by surprise. But she felt these emotions because she was dying. As if she was all too happy to just die.Either she was nuts or went through something that death couldn't even hold a candle in front of it.Carrying her in my arms, I sped towards my car.My driver, Lewis, hot on his tails as he opened the backseat for us and sat himself behind the steering wheel as we headed towards the hospital. I couldn't let her die, there was just something about her that I couldn't ignore. An hour later the doctor came out of the OT, “She is out of danger, we have taken the bullet out but we have to keep her monitored for the next 48 hours.”I nodded at him in silent appreciation as he walked away.My men didn't know there were inn
