Mercedes arrived at the office in full spirit. A payment of $31,500 arrived in her account and she was slightly flustered. Suddenly, she recalled the stakeholders meeting, excitement sprawled on her. She was grateful to Nathan and wanted to thank him but first, she transferred the money to her mother's account. She needn't ask because they always needed it.
She went to Nathan's office but he wasn't there. She set up and opened her email. There was one from Mr Bitman which was marked with high priority so she tackled it first. A few hours passed but Nathan hadn't arrived and hadn't called so she dialled his number. For the tenth time, he didn't answer his phone. She got back to work and was taken aback when Vincent instructed her to report to Director Blake's office. She thought she would be excited but she wasn't. After all Nathan had done for her, she felt that the devil she knew was better than the angel she didn't know. Truly, Dr Blake was nothingNathan yanked his hands off and glared icily at him, his teeth grinding. "I asked, what's going on here?" Nathan asked the second time. It was gross disrespect for Dr Blake to be there unannounced and not to see Nathan but his personal assistant. He instantly straightened himself, realizing he had just hit the president's assistant in the president's office. He had to think fast. He forced a smile, "I just came to return her blazer and she couldn't say thank you. I'll be on my way," he turned to leave. The aura Nathan exhumed was too dire."Stop!" Nathan didn't yell but even Mercedes felt uncomfortable. Dr Blake halted instantly. "Miss Winters, is what he said true?" He asked coldly.Mercedes took a deep breath. "He was asking me for payment for returning my blazer and I told him to take it back but he-.""What kind of payment do you need?" Nathan cut in before Mercedes completed her explanation. Dr Blake could hear his fast heartb
"Mr Legend, I would like to have a word with you," Mercedes said to Nathan, who was about to step out of his office. Nathan halted, wondering about what could make her want to speak with him. "Miss Winters, are you still here?" He asked. He thought Mercedes had already left. "Fortunately yes," she forced a smile but Nathan could sense there was something amidst. She looked disturbed. He ambled close to her. "Are you alright?" He asked with genuine concern. "I need a loan," she said directly. Nathan was slightly troubled about how straightforward she was. He already knew about her brother's condition but with $80,000 in two days, he wasn't expecting this. He sat on the sofa and tapped the other side, "sit." She sat amenably. "How much and for what?" He asked cooly. He only hoped his suspicion wasn't right and that Mercedes hadn't woven her way into his life to her advantage as Lanre had said. "I need a loan of $120,000
Nathan's phone beeped when he got to his penthouse. He checked and realized it was Rebecca calling him. Perhaps, it concerned Lanre so he answered it."Nathan, Thank God you answered the phone," she exclaimed enthusiastically at the end of the line.Nathan frowned, "to the point, Rebecca, I don't have time," he said coldly. Rebecca wasn't offended. For as long as she knew Nathan, he was always cold."It's about what we discussed this morning. The Hickeys," she said precisely, the excitement melting from her tone."What has that got to do with me?" Nathan seethed."I just need you to not tell Lanre okay? I will change."Nathan was upset. The adulterous wife is pleading with her husband's best friend not to tell on her. "Don't call me again if it's not an emergency. Your marital affairs are none of my business." Nathan was about to end the call when she spoke again."He's on his way to you
Mercedes was tense, sitting in the passenger seat of Nathan's Lambo. "Relax, Miss Winters. We are just going shopping," Nathan tried to loosen the atmosphere. Mercedes forced a smile. One minute, she felt warm around him and the next minute, she was exhumed by his aura. He was a light switch, knowing when to swap his moods. But did he say shopping? He was mentioning purchasing a house like picking groceries from the market. She hasn't been able to decipher Nathan's reason for doing so much because she asked him for a loan. Her mind went into full gear when Nathan pulled over in front of a luxurious penthouse. "Your house?" Mercedes asked, wondering why Nathan brought her to his place. Did her one week start now? "It's yours now," Nathan casually said, making Mercedes freeze as he continued, "I have five of them and thought you could have this one. It suits you very well." Mercedes remained speechless and rooted to the spot. It wa
Mercedes got to the airport clothed with worry since she couldn't hear from Griffin. It wasn't long before she spotted Angela. Her brown straight hair lay calmly on her back. She wore skinny jeans with a tank top and a coat over it. Her hazel eyes sparkled when she caught sight of Mercedes from the distance and not caring about the other travellers at the arrival lounge, she yelled, "Mercedes Winters my superstar," a smile blooming on her face. Mercedes was taken aback. It's been years since she was addressed by that title. Back in college, she attended an audition for a romance movie. Her outstanding performance earned her the appraisal of a superstar from one of the judges but Griffin didn't allow her to attend any of the rehearsals. He claimed too many guys will be hitting on her and he won't be there to protect her. Such a lame excuse but it made Mercedes think he didn't want any man around her because he loved her and obeyed him. Right now, Angie has just resurrected sa
Angie's tone carried a conviction that made Mercedes worried. She was cutting vegetables with her mind afar when a sharp pain cruised through her forefinger. "Ouch," she cried, blood oozing from the finger she cut through, as she ran it under warm running water. "Sorry, sorry, where do you keep your first aid," Angie asked, panic-stricken. "In my bedroom, Opposite Griff's," she said with painful pants, while the warm water washed the blood. Angie hurriedly brought the first aid box and began treating her wound. "Sorry it will hurt a little," she warned Mercedes. "What difference does it make?" Mercedes asked sadly. After all, she was already in pain. Angie worked like a feather, so she could help lessen the pain. "There, all wrapped. I will take care of the veggies. You can grill the chicken if you are up to it," She picked up the first aid box. "Sure, I will," Mercedes frantically said. Angie had already done the greater p
Mercedes didn't have a choice. She was maimed and felt like a purchased commodity. She had to do everything he wanted for one week. "Yes," she muttered, her hand around Nathan's back balled into a fist to stop her trembling form. Surprisingly, Nathan was gentle. "Come on, it's not convincing enough. Let me make it easier for you, kiss me," his voice minced with a seductive stun, beads of sweat began forming on her forehead. Luckily, the pilot intervened. "We're ready for take-off, Mr Legend," he said through the address system. Nathan sighed, "your lucky day. Sit beside me and fasten your seat belt," he cautioned but as soon as she sat, he buckled her securely by himself. When the plane was in the air, Nathan unbuckled his seat belt, then did hers, "break time over," he purred. "Now, take your rightful position and mind you, whenever you have to sit, it has to be here," he tapped on his laps. Mercedes felt uneas
Gratitude and admiration weighed Mercedes so much, all she wanted to do was please him. Be it for pleasure or not, he has treated her better than she imagined. Sometimes she wondered what kind of person he was. It would have been nice if he had just said he did everything because he cared for her but rather, he said pleasure. If that was what he wanted in return, she was determined to make it worthwhile for him. For just over a week since she knew him, he has been the sun brightening her day. Griffin might not be there for her anymore like he used to but Nathan was, and for a week, she was determined to bestow him the needed satisfaction. Peeking out of the window of the SUV, the sea enveloped them. A flood of adrenaline surged through her igniting exciting sparks over her countenance. Her mind was dazed and yet, she couldn't ask where they were headed till Nathan pulled over in front of a beach house. How did Nathan know that she loved the beach? She hasn't
