Aurora’s POV

It’s been a week since Darren and Tessa had sex…

Goodness, thinking about it icks me out. I have a bad feeling about it, but I feel like it’s just about the way he looks at her and the thought of my husband being in bed with my sister.

“It’s funny, tbh.” I heard her laughing. Probably on a phone call with her friends or whatever. I heard footsteps in the living room.

I was sitting on the couch, leg crossed, watching my favorite show, when the couch dipped down. Her perfume filled my nose. I sighed before facing her.

Of course, she looked extra ordinary like any other day.

“What are you watching, sis?” she asked, and I shrugged before facing the television.

“Just… my favorite show,” I responded flatly. She hummed back.

“I’ve been feeling pretty bad since yesterday, and I’m about to try using the pregnancy test thing.” My eyes widened, and I faced her.

“Do you think you’re?” I asked, my eyes filled with hope. She nodded with a little smile.

My heart sank. I should be feeling grateful , happy, but a part of me wants her not to get pregnant.

I shook the thoughts out of my head and took her hand, dragging her up with me.

“Let’s go find out,” I said as we headed to the bathroom.

We got to the bathroom. “Go on,” I said to her as she nodded, going into the bathroom to take the test.

My hands grew shaky. What if it was negative? Does it mean her sleeping with Darren is in vain? What if she’s really pregnant? Does it mean I’ll have to own my sister’s babyyy?

Different thoughts kept playing in my head. I need to be positive and keep a clean mind. Tessa is just helping out, sacrificing herself for me.

She came out minutes later with the stick, and we went back to the living room.

“We have to wait for two minutes, right?” she asked, and I nodded.

“I’ll go grab juice for us in the kitchen,” I mumbled, walking away from her. I took out my phone, sending a text to Amy.

Me: She took the pregnancy test. I’m nervous.

I opened the fridge, took out the juice box, and poured it into two glasses. I dragged myself back to the living room.

“It’s time to check,” she announced as I handed her a cup of juice.

I gulped down the empty lump in my throat before picking it up and turning it over.

I stared at the stick in my hand, and my breath hitched. I think I stopped breathing.

Positive. It’s positive.

Tessa is pregnant with my husband’s baby…

“Don’t keep me in the dark,” her voice cut me back to reality. My heart squeezed, and I turned the stick to her with a small smile.

“Oh my goodness!” Her eyes widened, and her mouth curled upward in a big smile. She placed her palm on her mouth, covering it in shock. “It’s positive. I’m pregnant.”

“Yes, you are,” I muttered. She pulled me into a deep hug, and I returned it, but with a broken heart. Tears fell from my eyes.

She broke the hug and pulled back to look at my face. Her smile faded. Her brows drew together as her eyes moved over my features, lingering as if she had noticed something she didn’t like.

“What’s wrong?” she asked. “You’re not happy about it?”

I shook my head quickly, forcing the ache behind my eyes to stay hidden. I blinked away the tears threatening to spill and pulled my lips into what I hoped looked like a genuine smile.

“I’m just happy and shocked at the same time,” I said, keeping my voice light.

It was a lie.

“I knowww, right?” she said, her eyes lighting up with excitement. “We need to tell Darren about it.”

I nodded, but before I could call him on my phone, I heard her phone ringing already.

“Hello, Tess.” Darren’s smooth voice could be heard from the other side of the phone.

“Hiii, Darren,” she called, her voice bright and clear. “We have good news.”

“And what’s the good news?”

“Welllll…” she drawled, dragging out the word as a mischievous smile spread across her face. She glanced at me, then at the phone, clearly enjoying the suspense.

“What?” Darren asked from the other end.

She giggled. “You’re going to freak out when I tell you.”

“Just tell me.”

She pressed a hand to her stomach, her smile growing wider. “Okay… but you have to promise you won’t scream.”

“Why would I scream?”

“Because…” She paused dramatically, looking at me with sparkling eyes before turning back to the phone. “You’re going to be a dad.”

For a second, there was nothing but silence on the other end.

She bit her lip to keep from laughing. “I’m pregnant, Darren. It’s positive. Rora and I just took the test.”

Silence.

“Darren?” she called.

A sharp breath came through the phone.

“Wait… what?” His voice cracked, as though he couldn’t quite process what he’d heard.

“I’m pregnant,” she repeated, laughing softly. “It’s positive. Rora and I just took the test.”

For several seconds, he said nothing.

Then I heard him let out a shaky laugh. “You’re serious?”

“Completely.”

“Oh my God.” His voice trembled, the disbelief slowly giving way to joy. “We’re having a baby?”

We… Like I’m not part of the family.

The way his voice sounded happy made my heart ache. I cleared my throat.

“Yeah, you should come home and let’s celebrate,” I suggested, and Tessa nodded, agreeing.

“I agree. Rora is right. We should definitely celebrate it.”

“Yes, yes. Get ready, Tess. I’ll take you out when I get home.” He ignored me.

I scoffed inwardly. Really? He was gonna leave me out?

“Okay. I’ll be expecting,” she said before hanging up, jumping up excitedly. “I need to go look for the perfect gown. See you later, sis.” Tessa ran to the guest room.

I slumped down on the couch when my phone beeped. A text from Amy.

Amy: How do you feel?

I texted back immediately. No one gets me better than her. Not even my mother.

Me: Confused, sad… idk…

My emotions are everywhere.

Amy: I understand, love. You can’t be happy even if you wanted to try. But remember one thing.

Amy: You’re enough. It’s not your fault.

My hands shook, and my eyes blurred as tears spilled from my eyes while reading her texts.

AURORA POV..She's here..She’s here.I pulled on a robe and peeked through the window. Tessa stepped out, her long hair tied back, dressed too nicely for a “casual visit.” That was Tessa — my sister, but somehow always the one who looked like she belonged anywhere. Pretty, polished, and a little too perfect for comfort.Darren’s voice carried from downstairs before I even got there. Smooth. Too smooth.“Long time, Tessa.”The way he said her name — soft, teasing — made my pulse spike. I hated that tone. I knew it too well. It was the same one he used when he wanted to be remembered.I stepped into the living room. “You’re early."Tessa smiled, her eyes bright. “I thought I’d surprise you.”“Yeah. Surprise.” I forced a smile back.Darren stood by the counter, coffee mug in hand, looking entirely too casual for someone who’d been all ice and distance just yesterday. “I was just telling your sister how much you’ve been looking forward to this,” he said.I shot him a glare, but he only s

AURORA POV “Yesss…” I drawled, stretching the word like a sigh that wanted to sound convincing. “Darren and I are both ready.”“Thought you’d never call. I talked to your sister—she said she’ll help you,” Mom said in that calm, calculating tone that always made my stomach twist.“Oh, I’ll call her too,” I replied, pretending it didn’t sting that she’d gone ahead and talked to Tessa first. She hummed. “Okay. Tomorrow then—we’ll talk about it.”And just like that, she hung up.The call ended with a soft beep, and I just stared at the phone for a moment. Then I placed it on the small table beside the bed and lay down, my back turned to Darren. I didn’t want to see his face right now—his calm, detached expression that said he didn’t care one way or another. Why did she agree so easily? That thought replayed over and over like a broken record.Still… at least she’s willing to help me, right? That should mean something.I pulled the covers up, closed my eyes, and pretended the silence betw

AURORA POV “I’m afraid… there’s no heartbeat. She should rest, and I’ll prescribe drugs to help her get stronger.” The doctor’s words hit first, hollow and sharp, cutting through the hazeFor a moment, my mind floated somewhere far away, a numb fog that swallowed the walls, the beeping machines, even Amy’s worried face. The room existed, but it wasn’t mine anymore.I pressed the phone tighter to my ear, the plastic hard against my palm. Her voice. Darren's mother, cold, cutting, and precise slithered through, slicing through my drifting thoughts: “You’ll never do anything right. You’ll never be enough.”My hands shook uncontrollably, chest tight, stomach twisting into knots. Every words dug deeper than the last, anger colliding with grief until I felt hollow inside.“You should be ashamed of yourself—you’ve been married to Darren for how many years now?” His mother’s voice snapped through the haze like a whip. My throat went dry. My chest throbbed. My heart pounded in a rhythm that d
