Chapter 5

Author: Bright Iridium
Mindy Jackson stepped out wearing a custom-tailored business suit. Her slim figure moved with easy confidence, long waves of cool brown hair falling over her shoulders. In her stilettos, she walked with calm authority, slightly tilting her head as she gave instructions to the young female assistant behind her. She carried the unmistakable presence of a powerful woman in the workplace.

And now, Mindy truly had everything it took to captivate men.

Just as she finished speaking and turned around, her eyes met Sabrina’s, who was standing at the entrance.

Mindy stopped short, a faint crease forming between her brows.

She hadn’t expected Sabrina to come straight to the company.

More accurately, she hadn’t expected Sabrina to move this fast.

But Mindy quickly regained her composure.

For the past five years, Sabrina had been consumed by grief after losing her children. She had stopped caring about the company entirely. There was no longer any place for her at YAH Jewelry.

With that thought, Mindy continued toward the entrance.

The two security guards immediately switched to flattering smiles when they saw her.

“Ms. Jackson!” they said, bowing slightly.

Mindy looked at them. “What’s going on?”

One of the guards gave an awkward smile. “Ms. Jackson, this lady says she wants to enter the company. We’re just checking her identity.”

Mindy didn’t respond. Instead, she glanced at the assistant beside her, Anne Leed.

Anne was one of Mindy’s most trusted people. One look from Mindy was enough for her to understand.

“This woman doesn’t look like anyone from the industry,” Anne said as she stepped forward. Her eyes swept over Sabrina from head to toe, her contempt completely undisguised. “Ma’am, this is one of the top jewelry companies in the country. Are you sure you’re in the right place?”

Sabrina looked at Anne with cold eyes.

Did Mindy really think something like this would shake her?

Ignoring Anne entirely, Sabrina fixed her gaze on Mindy and curled her lips into a faint, mocking smile.

“Mindy Jackson, when a dog bites its owner, it pays the price.”

Mindy’s expression stiffened.

At that moment, two luxury cars pulled up outside the building.

The doors opened, and three of the company’s other shareholders stepped out.

The moment Mindy saw them, the color drained from her face.

Sabrina watched her expression slowly turn pale.

Then she spoke calmly.

“As the company’s largest shareholder and founder, I’m calling an emergency shareholders’ meeting. Mindy Jackson, this meeting is for you.”

Before Mindy, Anne, or anyone else could react, Sabrina had already turned and walked toward the private executive elevator with the three shareholders.

The two security guards stood there, completely stunned.

The group behind Mindy looked equally shocked, turning toward her for help.

Mindy let out a cold laugh.

Then she leaned slightly toward Anne and spoke in a low voice.

“Call Nick right now. Tell him Sabrina brought people here to cause trouble.”

Anne nodded immediately.

“Got it. I’ll call right away.”

As the largest shareholder, Sabrina should have been fully qualified to force Mindy out with the support of the other three shareholders.

But she had still underestimated just how far Luther would go for Mindy.

He had transferred ten percent of his shares to her.

The transfer had happened five years ago.

Not only had Mindy become a shareholder, but over the past five years, with Luther backing her, she had also pushed out every talented person Sabrina had personally chosen and trained.

The jewelry company Sabrina had built with her own hands had become Mindy’s trophy.

Sabrina’s fingers tightened around the share transfer documents until her knuckles turned white.

The conference room was silent, the atmosphere heavy and strange.

The three shareholders sat there exchanging looks, just as confused by the situation as everyone else.

Mindy rose to her feet and looked at Sabrina with all the poise of a winner.

“Sabrina, I know you’re upset that Luther transferred those shares to me, but he only did it because none of the people you left behind were willing to listen to me. He gave me those shares because he didn’t want me being pushed around. I only accepted them so I could manage the company properly. You’ve spent the last five years at home doing nothing while Luther took care of you. I understand that means you probably can’t relate to how hard it is for a woman to survive in the workplace, but you have no right to fire me. And Luther would never allow you to make a scene like this.”

Every word was dripping with mockery and provocation.

Sabrina looked at her coldly.

A moment later, she set the documents down, rose from her seat, and walked straight over to Mindy.

Then, with everyone in the room watching, she lifted her hand and slapped her across the face without a second of hesitation.

Smack.

The sharp crack echoed through the entire conference room.

Everyone there was stunned.

The blow had caught Mindy completely off guard. She clutched her cheek and glared at Sabrina, fury flashing across her face. But just as quickly, she caught herself. Her brows drew together, and tears instantly spilled from her eyes.

“Sabrina, if hitting me helps you calm down, then fine, I’ll take it. But this is the office. If you make a scene like this in front of the shareholders, Luther’s only going to be angry again…”

“Mindy Jackson,” Sabrina cut in, her voice ice cold. “Knowingly sleeping with a married man and acting as the other woman can amount to bigamy. Don’t think that just because Luther protects you, I can’t touch you.”

Mindy’s face darkened. She stared at Sabrina without blinking.

Off to the side, Nick stepped forward, his expression complicated. “Mrs. William, please calm down. About this matter, Mr. William, he…”

“Tell Luther this.” Sabrina turned to Nick, her tone hard as steel. “However those shares were handed over, that’s how they’ll be handed back. And if he insists on protecting Mindy, I don’t mind taking this all the way down with him.”

Nick stiffened. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say more, but Sabrina gave him no chance.

She turned and walked straight out of the conference room.

In the end, the emergency shareholders’ meeting dissolved just like that.

After leaving the company, Nick pulled out his phone and called Luther.

“Mr. William, Mrs. William saw the share transfer documents and got extremely upset… Ms. Jackson? She was slapped by Mrs. William… I tried to explain it for you, but Mrs. William wouldn’t listen. She just walked out…”

After leaving the company, Sabrina went straight home.

The moment she got back, she returned to her room and dialed a familiar number.

“It’s me. Make the necessary arrangements. I need you back in the country to help me…”

Night fell.

After finishing dinner, Mrs. Watson went upstairs to call Sabrina down to eat.

Sabrina went downstairs, but the moment she stepped into the dining room, she saw Luther already seated at the table.

He was wearing only a black dress shirt, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his strong, fair forearms. One hand held a bowl. The other held a spoon as he slowly ladled out fish soup.

The crystal dining light above cast a warm amber glow over his sharply defined face.

Five years had left no mark on him at all. He was still strikingly handsome, only now there was an added depth between his brows.

Hearing her footsteps, he looked up.

His gaze swept over her, dark as ink, and his voice was low.

“Ms. Watson made your favorite crucian carp soup. Have a bowl while it’s hot.”

Sabrina stopped in her tracks.

His calm attitude made her so angry she almost laughed.

“Luther William, do you really think we can still sit down and eat together like nothing happened?”

Luther set the bowl of soup in front of her seat and picked up a hand towel to wipe his hands.

Then he lifted his eyes and looked at her again, still perfectly composed.

“Sabrina, eat first. Then we’ll sit down and talk.”

It was his private phone.Sabrina glanced at the pocket where it was vibrating and curled her lips coldly. “Aren’t you going to answer that, Mr. William? It might be your precious Mindy calling.”Luther shot her a frown, then released his grip on her and took out the phone. The call was coming from the landline at Cloudbrook. He answered immediately. “What is it?”“Sir, something’s wrong. Callum accidentally cut his hand. There’s a lot of blood…”Luther’s expression changed instantly. Without another word, he turned and rushed out.Sabrina had been standing close enough to hear the housekeeper clearly. She could not quite describe what she was feeling.Even if Callum was Luther’s brother’s son, it was still a fact that Luther and Mindy had been living together. That alone was enough. She would never forgive him.As for Callum…Sabrina rested a hand on her stomach.Callum was already far luckier than her own child. At least he had parents who loved him. At least he was gr

He cleared his throat. “Right, well… I just remembered I’ve got something else to take care of. I’ll head out first.”With that, he slipped out of the office. An uneasy silence settled over the room.Luther rose to his feet and looked at Sabrina, his brows drawn tight. “Sabrina, I thought you’d be able to understand.”“Understand what?” Sabrina let out a cold laugh. “Understand that right after I lost my babies, you used my name to adopt Callum? Or understand that you and Mindy were secretly carrying on under the excuse of raising your brother’s child?”His expression turned impatient. “I told you. What’s between Mindy and me is not what you think.”“Luther, you’re unbelievable.” Sabrina glared at him. “Do I really have to catch you two in bed before you’ll admit what’s going on?”Luther’s face darkened. “Sabrina, enough.”“I went to Cloudbrook.”Luther

Luther looked at her fury and let out what seemed like a helpless sigh. Then he picked up the desk phone. “Bring the file in.”He hung up.A moment later, Nick pushed the door open and hurried in with a folder in hand.“Sir, everything’s here.” He placed the folder on the desk.Luther leaned back lazily in his chair. “Show it to Madam.”Nick turned and held the folder out to Sabrina. “Madam, please take a look.”Sabrina did not take it right away. She glanced at the folder and frowned. “What is this?”“You’ll know once you read it,” Luther said evenly. After a brief pause, Sabrina finally took the folder.…The file was thorough.Inside was a paternity report, along with a stack of photographs. The man in the photos had a face identical to Luther’s, except for a small blue mole at the corner of his eye.The paternity test also showed a biological father-son relationship.Sample 1: Father, Evan William.Sample 2: Son, Callum William.Sabrina frowned. “Who is Evan William

Her face stayed cold. “How much longer will Luther be?”Nick lifted his wrist and checked his watch. “The meeting should wrap up in about half an hour.”“I understand.” Sabrina walked over to the couch and sat down. Then she looked up at him. “I’ll wait for him. Go ahead and get back to work.”“Of course. If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll take my leave now.” Nick gave a slight nod and left the office. The door shut behind him, and the room fell quiet.Sabrina took out her phone and op

For a moment, the little girl and the grown woman simply stared at each other in silence.“Cecilia Cross.”A man’s gentle voice came from behind her.Sabrina turned around. At some point, Adrian had appeared a few steps behind her.Meeting her gaze, he spoke again. “She’s trying to say her name is Cecilia Cross. Her pronunciation just isn’t very clear yet.”“Daddy~”The moment Ceci saw Adrian, her eyes lit up. She immediately turned and ran toward him.Adrian bent down and picked his daughter up, then looked at Sabrina. “Ms. Chatsworth, I hope Ceci didn’t cause you any trouble.”Sabrina stood up and looked at him. “Not at all. Ceci’s adorable.”The little girl lifted one small finger and pointed at Sabrina. “Mommy~”Adrian froze for a second, then turned to look at Sabrina.Sabrina pressed her lips together, clearly a little embarrassed.“Ceci, this is Miss Chatsworth,” Adrian explained patiently to his daughter.“Remember what Daddy told you? “Ceci!”An adult’s voice called out from inside the law firm.Sabrina looked up just in time to see a middle-aged woman hurrying toward them, panic written all over her face.“Oh my goodness, my little sweetheart!”The woman crouched down in front of the little girl and let out a helpless sigh. “I only stepped away to use the bathroom for a minute. How did you run all the way out here by yourself?”The little girl kept clinging to Sabrina, her wide doe-liked eyes fixed on the woman without saying a word.Seeing that, Sabrina asked, “Are you her family?”The woman stood up and quickly explained, “Oh, no. I’m just one of the cleaning staff here at the law firm. She’s Mr. Cross’s daughter. She’s very attached to him, so she comes to the office with him every day. When Mr. Cross is busy working, the rest of us help keep an eye on her.”So that was it.Sabrina said, “Kids this age are curious and don’t understand danger.
