Chapt 5: Running Away

Ivory hurriedly packed up her things, as she no longer intended to live at the same place.

She could still hear the growls and shouts of her boss before she left the office, and she made sure not to return to that place again.

She was afraid that Max would find her and ask her to come back to work.

Well ... that was just Ivory's thoughts that would probably never happen. An arrogant man like Max would never need someone like her.

Even if Max looks for and asks for something from Ivory, Ivory will make sure never to give a chance to that man. She didn't want to get hurt for the umpteenth time.

Just as Ivory was about to leave, her cell phone rang so loudly that she rushed to answer the call before someone outside her house heard the sound of her cell phone. Don't let anyone know her whereabouts.

"Ivy, where are you?" asked the caller on the other line.

Ivory knew who was calling her—Jane, of course. The girl wouldn't be able to get easy if Ivory weren't in her presence for a moment.

"I-I ... Jane, don't look for me for the next little while. I need to clear my head a bit," Ivory said.

"What? Where are you going? No! You can't go anywhere. You know what? I have good news; you should go back to the office!"

Ivory didn't dare to guess what exactly was going on, but once again—even more times, Jane forced her to return to the office.

"Come on, Ivy, please ... it's about the boss. Don't you want to know what's going on? Oh, sorry, that's not what I was supposed to say. So you see, I want to know what you did to that guy, Ivy. Because he's like someone under a love spell."

"What? What do you mean?" asked Ivory, not understanding what her best friend had said.

Since when did the arrogant and haughty man fall in love? Even Jane said it clearly that Max was under a love spell. On what basis did she say that? Had something happened to the man?

"Jane, please, let's talk about it later, okay? I have to go!"

Without excuse, Ivory ended their conversation over the phone, and then she hurried to continue with what she had planned.

She had a bad feeling that something was going to happen to her. She couldn't let her guard down and stop in a deserted place, which meant she had to be careful.

Ivory quickened her pace. She felt like someone was following her now. She wasn't sure if it was just her feeling or if it was confirmed that someone was stalking her now.

The girl tried her best to avoid it. She even started running so that she could get away from the stalker's sight and she could be free.

Unfortunately, the reality is often not as beautiful as fantasies and hopes. That happened to Ivory, who didn't realize that the figure following her was lunging and making the girl fall under her confinement.

"Where are you running to, Ivy? You've dared to deceive me, Miss Silver Hair. So you'll have to pay the price," the half-human, half-wolf creature, grinning.

"No, wait! How can you call me a cheater, huh?! I did what you asked, didn't I? Then, what is this again?"

"You still dare to ask 'what is this again', huh? Look at me! Since I can't return to my original form, it must be because of you! Because I slept with you, this curse became even worse! You're a bad luck charm, Ivy!" growled the creature in a creepy bass voice.

Ivory shuddered when she heard the accusation that she was an evil luck charm since her goosebumps hadn't stopped bristling.

Maybe it was true what Max said, that Ivory was an evil luck charm. The proof was that her family no longer wanted to acknowledge her—she was abandoned and stranded alone. There was no one willing to help her when she was down.

Not that all, even some people insulted her just like Max accused her of—cruel words spoken with hatred.

And right now, Max was still trying to grip Ivory's throat with both hands, each of which was covered in long, sharp nails—pressing the girl's body against the iron footbridge, which felt cold on the surface of Ivory's skin.

Down there, there was an ocean whose depths were incalculable. And again, how many degrees was the current temperature? Ivory would probably freeze if she splashed and drowned at the bottom.

Would this be her last day? Will Max kill her? What if he did? Even though Ivory had been living alone for a long time, still, she didn't want to die silly in the hands of that beast.

Ivory came to regret her decision to pass through this deserted road. She should have entered the slum area with packed houses, so she could knock on one of the doors and hide there.

Now, here Ivory was, with Max staring at her with a desire to eliminate her, unlike the Max Ivory had seen last night—not intending to take Ivory's life but to exchange the sweat with him.

The girl had even almost fallen in love with Max, thinking he had an extraordinary character.

"Sir, please let me go! Ekh!" Ivory tried to count down as if she was resigned to the grim reaper who seemed to be standing at her doorstep.

This was the first time she had seen such a fierce look from someone after a long time of not hanging out with anyone she didn't want to. And at first, she felt comfortable around Max. But, of course, that was when Max wasn't the arrogant figure who turned out to be his boss.

Now, at the crossroads between life and death, she could do nothing. Ivory surrendered; no matter what Max wanted to do, even if she had to die right now, Ivory would no longer fight back.

So far, Ivory has no one, so let it be ... let it be if she has to die.

Ivory's body weakened, and all her nerves also relaxed. The grip that had been so strong now felt almost released until Ivory caught a look of regret, especially since Max, originally a beast, returned to his form as a handsome man who had captured Ivory's heart for one night.

"Ivy ... did I—"

Ivory didn't give Max a chance to speak. She didn't want to hear anything. She broke away from Max and dropped and threw herself into the ocean under the bridge where Max had executed her.

"IVY! What are you doing, Ivy? Where are you?!"

Max kept calling out to Ivory as a man possessed. He had even intended to jump down there, but some people thought he would end his life and stop him.

So, what about Ivory down there? She was probably lifeless, drowned at the bottom of the ocean, and no one would ever find her.
