Chapter 2

Author: Obscura Script
The door burst open and a maid braced herself against the frame, her chest heaving.

I clutched the edge of my cloak, my heart racing. "W-what... what happened?!"

She took a shaky breath before speaking, "Luna, my name is Lydia. Alpha just received an urgent battle report about a dispute at the border of our territory. A rival pack crossed the boundary, seized our supplies, and injured our troops. Alpha had to go and handle it personally, so today's bonding ceremony... has to be postponed. Although the ceremony is postponed, Alpha instructed us to treat you as Luna and respect you."

My mind went blank for a beat, then I answered on instinct, "It's okay. The territory and the pack come first. The ceremony can wait."

Lydia stepped closer, her smile cautious and apologetic. "Please don't take it to heart, Luna. Alpha had no choice. If this drags on, more of our pack members will be hurt, and it would damage the pack's authority."

I shook my head. "I really don't mind. If the conflict grows, the losses would be far worse. That would be the real problem."

When she saw that I truly wasn't angry, Lydia finally relaxed. She led me upstairs to a guest room on the second floor.

Late that night, a Warrior came by with a message. They needed to send the Alpha's spare clothes to the front lines. When I opened the wardrobe, I noticed several pieces were worn thin. One shirt even had a faint, dried, old brown stain on the shoulder that looked like blood.

My chest tightened. Kyler must have been through countless fights out there.

I hurried to the kitchen and baked several loaves of bread and a batch of muffins myself, planning to send them along with his clothes. By the time everything was ready, dawn was close. Exhaustion hit me all at once, and I fell asleep at the table, still hugging the folded clothes and meal box.

Half-awake and still groggy, I felt as if someone had been sitting beside me for a long while, then gently lifted me into his arms. The warmth and calm of his presence wrapped around me, making me feel drunk with comfort, safe, and completely at ease.

As I was laid softly onto the bed and a plush blanket pulled over me, I never woke up. I only heard the door close quietly, and his low voice speaking to the maid outside.

"Elder Luna will arrive tomorrow afternoon. She's impatient by nature. Keep a close eye on Luna and don't let her be upset."

When I woke up that morning, Lydia helped me brush my hair, and her voice was bright with laughter.

"Luna, Alpha came back late last night. He kept picking up the suit you pressed and the armor you prepared, inspecting them over and over. Also, he couldn't bring himself to eat the muffins and bread you baked."

She grinned. "Everyone around him was laughing. They said they had never seen Alpha treasure anything like that before."

Hearing that made my heart melt, and I quickly turned to Lydia. "Can you help me ask if there are any old, damaged pieces of armor or scrap cloth? Alpha's armor always has a few small nicks, and it feels like a waste to throw it away. I want to try mending it and maybe add some small pockets to hold first-aid supplies."

As I was speaking, footsteps sounded at the door.

The butler, Oscar Smith, stood there and politely asked, "Luna, Alpha asked me to check if you are settling in well at the manor. If you need anything at all, just tell me."

I pointed toward the empty courtyard. "It would be nice to plant a few fruit trees and some flowers out there."

Remembering how Kyler used to think I was troublesome, I twisted the edge of my dress and whispered, "If it's inconvenient, that's okay. It was just a suggestion..."

But Kyler was more thoughtful than I expected. That very afternoon, servants arrived carrying fruit saplings and trays of flower seedlings. Oscar came in with a fluffy kitten in his arms, saying the Alpha had chosen it himself.

The moment the kitten touched the ground, it rolled at my feet, rubbing against my skirt and leaving tufts of fur behind. The ticklish warmth made my heart ache in the sweetest way.

Before long, raised voices suddenly echoed from downstairs.

An elderly she-wolf's voice, sharp and shrill, cut through the air, "She's only just become Luna and she's already causing trouble! Why are you dragging piles of useless junk into the courtyard? This isn't just a waste of effort to clean up, it's pure chaos!"

After a long while, Kyler's shoulders slowly sagged. The anger in his eyes faded, leaving only deep exhaustion. He stayed silent for so long that I shifted back into my human form. Finally, he said, "I accept."He turned and walked toward the door, each step slow and heavy. When he reached the doorway, he stopped, and without looking back, added, "Tomorrow, I'll take you back."The next morning, Kyler didn't appear. Instead, he had Hugo escort me to the Ember Pack and gave me a box. When I opened it, there was a wolf-fang ring inside, along with a letter.[Elsa, I'm sorry I was such a big jerk. I ignored your feelings and hurt you again and again. I was obsessed with the idea of giving you everything. I thought that material things and the promise of your future as Luna were the greatest gifts I could offer. I forgot what you truly wanted was always loyalty and respect.[I keep thinking back to when we were pups. I remember how you crouched beside me and cried for me when I fell f

When we returned to Frostfang Pack territory, Kyler settled me back into my old room and ordered the servants to take good care of me.Day by day, I grew quiet and withdrawn. Kyler's courtyard was empty. There were no fruit trees, no flowers, no kittens, and no laughter filling the air. I found myself thinking about the days I spent at the Ember Pack. The sunlight there had always felt warm. The courtyard had been lush and green, heavy with the scent of flowers. The Elder Luna would weave flower crowns with me. Lydia would chase butterflies by my side. George helped pick fruit. The kitten rolled around my feet, shameless and affectionate. The scraps I turned into treasures made the Warriors light up when they got their little pouches. Those vivid memories now felt like thorns, stabbing at my chest.I no longer laughed or played. I spent all day staring out the window, lost in thought. When Kyler came to see me, I kept my head down and said nothing. Even the servants could tell I wa

Elsa's POVUnder Nathaniel's careful care for two weeks, the toxin from the soulbind poison in my body gradually faded.Nathaniel smiled gently. "Luna, your wolf soul is on the verge of awakening. It won't be long before you can fully shift!"It should have been a moment to celebrate, but both Casper and I remained silent. For the past two weeks, we had quietly avoided any mention of sending me back to the Frostfang Pack. It was as if pretending it didn't exist could somehow erase the truth. But Nathaniel's words hit me like a splash of cold water. Once my wolf soul awakened, I would have no reason to stay at the Ember Pack. And yet, I wanted to stay. I wanted to stay by Casper's side.I wanted to keep making him muffins, to weave flower crowns with the Elder Luna, to make avocado shakes with Oscar, to chase butterflies with Lydia, and to turn the leftover scraps in the storeroom into useful little tools for the Warriors. But I had no reason to stay.On the way back, I sat in t

Third Person POVTwo weeks later, Kyler was in a private jet. He stared at a wolf-fang ring, his mind drifting back to a month ago. After taking control of the Shadow Pack, he had planned to send out two teams. He would personally lead one team to the Shadow Pack's territory to assert control. At the same time, he would negotiate a mating alliance with the former Alpha's daughter. Meanwhile, the other team would take lavish gifts to the Ember Pack to attend Casper's bonding ceremony. Before the plane even took off, Hugo rushed in with urgent news. "Alpha Kyler, Ms. Thorne's been missing since yesterday!"Kyler froze, thinking he'd misheard. "What did you say?""She hasn't been seen since yesterday morning. The servants thought she had gone out to play, but by evening, she still hadn't returned. They searched all day and couldn't find her."The air in the cabin went still.Kyler had been so consumed with expanding the pack's territory, securing the surrendered Warriors, and prepa

At that moment, a bolt of lightning split the sky outside. The rain, driven by the wind, leaked through the window cracks.Casper seemed to grab onto it like a lifeline. He stood and patted my shoulder. "The rain's too heavy today. Sending a message might get interrupted. I'll wait until it clears tomorrow."I nodded quickly. "Right! Bad weather messes with signals!"I went to the window, but didn't close it all the way. I was afraid that the moment I turned away, the rain would stop and he'd send the message. But I still fell asleep in the early hours. When I woke, sunlight was streaming through the window.Casper was standing by the wardrobe, picking out a coat for me. When he saw I was awake, he smiled. "Looks like it might rain later. Take this and bring an umbrella. We're going out for a bit."I knew he was just looking for an excuse, but still nodded obediently. "Okay. Maybe the rain will get heavier while we're out."Downstairs, Oscar handed me a small box. "Luna Elsa, thi

Elsa's POVAt the manor, Oscar came rushing in. "Luna, Alpha's back! The border disputes are all settled, so he can spend plenty of time with you now."I practically leapt off the sofa, still clutching the unfinished cat collar. When I saw someone stepping into the yard, I dashed forward excitedly. "You're back!"The werewolf caught me effortlessly and gently ran a hand over my head. I was about to hand over the collar when I looked up and froze. Amber eyes, warm and gentle, stared back at me.This wasn't Kyler.I blinked, and the collar slipped from my hands with a soft thud. My mind went blank."W-who are you?"-Rain lashed against the manor's glass windows outside. Warm lamplight and the scent of pine resin spilled through the room. Casper sat at the dining table, watching me with the same calm, steady gaze."So, that's how it is," he said with a low laugh. "I was wondering. Your name wasn't even listed in the Shadowclaw Pack's genealogy. I know Selina, who was supposed t
