You Have Nothing. Sage Dominic. The minute Lyla disappeared from the office, I properly faced Michelle. "Mr. Dominic, listen..." She was beginning to explain herself, but I couldn't care less. I waved a hand to shut her up immediately as I went towards an empty seat. "Why the display of power?" I leaned into the comfy chair as I stared at her. She knew what I was talking about, but her eyes feigned ignorance. "What are you talking about?" She made her way back to her seat which only irritated me. "Did I ask you to sit?" She froze at the corner of her desk, staring at me with a stiff expression on her face. I knew she was having an internal battle with herself... To defy me or not. The only person that could defy me and partly get away with it was Lyla and no one else. My eyes dared Michelle. "You know that you're not the only student we ask our teachers to tag. I sent her to you because both of you seemed close." She said resignedly, still standing and looking at me with a hateful glare. "You're not that special, Sage. Even if you leave this school, we will still be able to stand on our two feet." "I don't doubt that." I shrugged my shoulders in response. "It's just that..." I sat up, "If I left and took the foundation of this school with me, it will crumble under your feet." I made sure to maintain eye contact with her, to show her that I wasn't making jokes. She visibly gulped. "I told you, in all you do, leave Lyla out of all your stupid games. That has been my only request to you ever since I started this school." She scoffed. "What about the teachers and students that you've had me fire or expelled? Those were not requests?" I frowned for a few seconds. "I don't think we've ever had any conversation concerning firing teachers and expelling students. I only remember stating my displeasure over the behaviour of some people, and you had them removed. Isn't that right, Michelle? I honestly thought that's how things work here." Her jaw dropped in shock, her eyes wide open. "But... You!" She knew I wasn't lying. She was always trying to butter me up by expelling the students, not that I asked her to. "Anyway... Back to our main conversation. This will be the last time I warn you about messing with her. Tell that to your minions or whatever you call them, stay away from Lyla." "I know the dirty things that both of you are doing together. You think I haven't seen the video?" She seemed to be getting pumped up by the second after she mentioned the video. My eyebrows drew together in confusion. "What video?" "The one in the parking lot where you were kissing her forehead." She quickly picked up a remote control to black out her office, putting the entire room in darkness. Then, a light from the projector hit the nearest clear wall and a video began playing. It was footage from four nights ago; a choppy footage that didn't show our faces clearly. "This is our parking lot, and that is your car, isn't it?" She sneered. "This was from the evening after she fell into the swimming pool and you stayed with her all evening and even took her home. But here... it clearly shows that you kissed her. An improper behaviour between a staff and a student. You know that her licence would be seized if this ever got out, right?" She replayed the video over and over again before turning it off and bringing the lights back into the room. "So, you see, Mr. Dominic, I hold all the cards here. Yes, you fund the school very well, but I will hold this over your head. You're not in control anymore. I am." She made a show to go to her seat, but my cold eyes pinned her in place. "Is that all? Is there any more thing you'd like to add?" "If you try to defy me again..." She shrugged with a cunning smile on her face. "Who knows? I may send the video to your father." That struck a nerve, but it didn't show on my face. "Is that all?" My gaze was still fixed on her, and her smug smile wavered for a few seconds. She nodded slowly. "Now you've laid out all your cards, let me lay out mine." I stood up to my full height. "Stay away from Lyla and do not disturb her. Make sure that no one disturbs her. And if, by chance, I get wind that you have disrespected her, I will crush this school with you inside." "You!" She pointed a finger at me, but I grabbed it and bent it, satisfied with the scream of pain. "Do you know one thing about your life and my life?" I inched closer to her, "Even though you're the direct descendant of Oakwood Academy, you haven't made a name for yourself because you hide under the name of the school. And me? We both know I have made a name for myself. If it comes to a matter of swaying the public, use your smart mind, who do you think will win between the both of us?" She shivered as she stepped away from my looming figure, but I wasn't done with her. "You think they will believe some rumors and choppy footage that could as well be computer generated?" I cocked my head to the side with a scoff. "Will that compare to the physical hard evidence that I have of your money laundering? Bullying and Harassing both teachers and students? The unexplained expulsions? Confessions from the past teachers and students of this school... If I go to get these confessions from them, whose side do you think they will be on?" A light chuckle escaped from my lips. "And you will tell my dad? What are we? Five? And if that was even an option, do you think my father will trust you over his son? Think, Michelle, think. I'm the one with the power here. You have nothing!"Chapter 50The Twist.Lyla Atelo.“I'm not…”“…wealthy enough to purchase this? Of course I know that. Sage gifted this to you, right?” Her eyes were beaming in joy. She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not
Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you
Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I
Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't
Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu
Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
