HIS CHASE

CHAPTER 4: HIS CHASE

It was Dimitri, the man I was hoping not to run onto. The dream I longs each night for months as I was reminded of what we shared on the that Island.

Dimitri. It was fucking Dimitri Del Valle.

“Mary Jane.”

Glued, she slowly turned to face the man, she never knew she would ever run again.

Dimitri. It was Dimitri Del Valle, who was approaching her with a broad smile after settling what happened on the store. He owns it. The steward and the manager along with the others are forced to make amends and apologize to Mary Jane afterwards. They looks scared, afraid the moment he appeared.

Mary Jane is still lost, while he seems delighted to see her.

“Hey, are you okay? I hope that they did not scare you too much.” He looks worried, and a frown made its way to his handsome face.

On her mind, she knew that it wasn’t right.

“H—how did you find me?” That was the first thing she said.

If her husband find out, Ignacio would strangle her to death.

“Why? Is it bad or did I do something to upset you?” For some reason, he was weighing thoughts.

She looks far from the Mary Jane he met on the island. She was different from the bold girl, who was ready to risk everything. In front of him was the Mary Jane who looks frail, meek and the sight earlier displeas him. She didn’t fight back, although he knew that she is not capable of doubt it, and he was right. The CCTV footage caught the steward putting it in her bag.

“N—no.”

But he was not buying it.

Mary Jane felt helpless.

“Can I at least drive you home?”

The obvious was already clear.

“No.” Mary Jane stood up

She couldn’t get involved to Dimitri, but she won’t deny the fact that meeting him now had stirred something inside her chest that she should not entertain anymore. She keeps reminding herself that she was already committed, although Ignacio is not treating her right.

She was straightforward. He was surprised at how blunt she was, but he manage to composed himself. The night they shared on the place came back crumbling, and scattering into pieces as it came into ruins. It was all clear.

Mary Jane is not happy, and she did not longs for it that way he does. If only she knew how it drove him crazy, how he stop bedding women because he was hoping that Mary Jane and him might have a chance. Yet, here he is fooling himself for that false hope.

“I’m sorry, I should have known.” He was cold. His words seems like they were carved from ice. “l’ll go now. Take care of yourself, Miss Fonte—”

But his surprise did not end there.

“It’s Mrs. Rosewood.” Mary Jane hardened her resolve.

He was stunned, “Mrs. Rosewood...”

How funny.

He turned his back and leave, shaking his head in disbelief with the truth he was not yet ready to accept.

Mary Jane watched him. As he walk away, her face soften. Her knees gave way, and tears mourn in grievance as he disappear.

How can she deny the fact that she also mourns for him?

“Dimitri...”

SLAP.

A strong slap fell on her cheeks the moment she showed up on her house. Mary Jane have grew numb from the pain, but she still felt humiliated.

“I’ve heard what happened at the mall today! You dumb bitch!” Ignacio is furious.

She felt her heart dropped for a second, but she’s no surprise how did he know about it.

“You are an embarrassment for this family! If only I can, I 2ould have divorce you already!” He threatened her.

It was always like this.

Mary Jane only hangs her head low.

She didn’t have the guts to defend herself just like what she did earlier. Tired, weary, and the encounter with Dimitri did not help either. All she was left to do was bear, and endure whatever was coming.

“You ruined our name!”

Just like always, Mrs. Rosewood were in time for the worst.

“As expected from a cheap woman. Didn’t I warned you not to mess with us, Mary Jane?” If Ignacio is furious, she was outrageous.

She held her head high, and she was glaring at me as if she wanted to kill me.

I know she would.

“Since you’ve already take what you could and dig up your own grave, then it wouldn’t be bad giving you a dose of your own medicine.”

As she speaks, two policeman appeared from the doorway.

My eyes widened. I was petrified, when they cuffed both of my hands.

“W—what’s the meaning of this?”

Loren was smirking. My parents did not say anything, while I have gotten arrested.

“Well, making sure that you learn your lesson, girl.”

“N—no, you can’t so this to me!”

Shock laced through my face.

“Ma! Pa!” I called them hoping that they could even on the least be the parents that I never had, but I was only left with disappointment.

“You bring this to yourself, so don’t call us to get you out of there.”

Tears streamed from my eyes. I began crying. I felt like the world is against me. With a crestfallen look, I was locked away. Taken freedom that was replaced by cold walls and empty cells that were requested by Mrs. Rosewood herself.

Like she wanted, I ended up in prison, and my nightmare begins.

I leaned my back to cemented floor and ask whether I did something wrong to deserve it. This horrible treatment that was purely inhumane.

I swallowed my sobs.

“I hate you.”

I hate all of you!

I never wanted this life. I never wanted to marry Ignacio in the first place! If only...if only I can choose the life that I should have.

If only.

As I slowly closed my eyes, an image of a man suddenly submerged the hopeless me deeper, and I knew why.

I may never wanted this life, but I won’t ever regret having that one night in this hell hole that I felt happy and free...without my parents, without Ignacio and everybody that could judge me.

I smiled softly as tears rolled from my cheeks.

“Dimitri.”

My first choice. The man, who gave me the first taste of freedom that I never experienced in the first place...but then, what we had there is wrong. It is against morals, it is against my marriage.
