Bella's POV

The year my daughter, Adeline Vale, was born, I decided I wasn't going to leave her future to chance.

She had always been gentle and soft-hearted, so I carefully chose four boys to adopt and raise alongside her. They would grow up with her, protect her, and make sure no one could ever take advantage of her.

For ten years, I poured everything I had into them. I raised each of them to be sharp, capable, and ruthless when the situation demanded it.

And my efforts paid off. With four older brothers watching over her, my daughter had grown up safe and sheltered. At least, that was what I'd believed.

That was until the day I received her frantic call. "Mom, please… Help me. They cornered me in the bathroom. They're trying to rip my clothes off…"

By the time I reached the school, I found Adeline huddled in the corner of a bathroom stall. Half of her uniform blouse had been torn open, and she was clutching the ruined fabric against herself with shaking hands.

Outside the bathroom stood the four boys I had raised with my own hands. And not one of them was helping her. Instead, all four were gathered around another girl, watching the whole thing unfold as if it were entertainment.

That was when I learned the truth. Her name was Marielle Sloane. Apparently, she was the one girl all four of my sons would do anything for.

And the reason Adeline had been put through this was that she and Marielle had exchanged a few angry words. That was it.

When the boys saw me coming, I expected at least a flicker of guilt. There wasn't any. If anything, they looked annoyed that I had shown up.

The eldest, Evander Vale, immediately stepped in front of Marielle, shielding her from me. "Mom, Adeline started it. She insulted Marielle and deliberately upset her.

"If she still hasn't learned how to treat people with respect, then someone needed to teach her a lesson. I was only doing what you should've done."

I stared at him. Before I could answer, my third son, Stellan Vale, spoke with the same cold indifference, "Why did you even come, Mom? We only had a few people scare Adeline. She wasn't actually going to get hurt. Did she seriously need to run crying to you over something this small?"

"Something this small?"

My eyes moved from Evander to Stellan, then to the other two boys standing beside Marielle.

I had raised them, fed them, educated them, and opened doors for them that most people would spend a lifetime trying to reach. Every advantage they had, every ounce of power they now wielded, had come from me.

And somewhere along the way, they had apparently forgotten that.

Fine. If they couldn't remember who had given them everything they had, I would remind them.

Starting today, I wasn't just cutting them off. I was taking back every last thing I'd ever given them.

"You just said you only wanted to scare her?" I held Stellan's gaze, my voice eerily calm.

Stellan frowned before stepping toward me, not the slightest trace of guilt on his face. "Mom, you've coddled Adeline her whole life. A little adversity won't kill her. Besides, we were right outside. We would've stepped in before anything serious happened."

My eyes shifted to Adeline, still curled up against the bathroom wall. She was trembling so violently that her teeth were almost chattering. Her fingers dug desperately into the grout between the tiles as if that was the only thing keeping her grounded.

The collar of her uniform blouse had been ripped apart, and angry bruises stood out across her exposed shoulder.

I had spent years fighting my way through a world where weaknesses got you eaten alive, yet even at the lowest points of my life, I had never allowed Adeline to suffer like this.

"Before anything serious happened?" A quiet laugh escaped me. I walked toward Stellan, one measured step at a time. "So when exactly would you have stepped in? After they'd stripped her in front of everyone?"

Evander immediately moved between us. He adjusted his thin gold-rimmed glasses, his voice as mild and composed as ever. "Mom, don't get angry before you've heard the whole story. Marielle accidentally spilled her iced coffee on Adeline's shoes.

"Adeline completely lost her temper and started yelling at her. It was embarrassing. We're her brothers. If you've spoiled her too much to teach her how to let things go, then it's our responsibility to do it. We asked a few classmates to play a little prank on her. That's all."

Evander glanced toward the bathroom as though what had happened inside was nothing worth mentioning.

"Maybe next time, she'll think twice before making a scene over something so trivial."

Marielle gripped the hem of Evander's jacket. Her eyes were red as she timidly peeked out from behind him. "Ma'am, please don't blame them. This is all my fault. I could never afford to replace Adeline's custom-made shoes, so I understand why she was angry with me.

"If it'll make her forgive me, I'll do anything. I'd even strip down and apologize to her."

My second son, Caspian Vale, reacted immediately.

He shrugged off his designer overcoat and carefully draped it around Marielle's shoulders before drawing her protectively against his side. "Mariell, don't ever humiliate yourself like that."

Then, he turned to me, and there was unmistakable reproach in his eyes. "Mom, you heard her. Marielle is handling this with more maturity than Adeline ever did.

"It's just a pair of shoes. But Adeline had to make such a scene that Marielle was completely humiliated. Is this really how you raised your daughter?"

My fourth son, Zet Vale, had been leaning against the sinks, idly flicking a lighter open and shut. At that, his thumb finally settled.

Bella's POV"Ms. Vale." Oliver entered the room and handed me a tablet. "The latest routine report from the prison."I gave it a cursory glance.Over the past five years, prison life had been anything but uneventful for the four brothers. The people Ronan had put in place had made sure they received plenty of special attention every single day.A short video was attached to the report. Four gaunt men with prematurely graying hair appeared on the screen, dressed in prison uniforms and performing hard labor in the prison quarry.Evander's signature gold-rimmed glasses were long gone. His eyes were vacant now, his movements slow and mechanical as he carried one load after another.Caspian walked with a permanent limp after an injury sustained during a prison fight had never healed properly.Stellan had become stooped and frail, looking decades older than the man he had once been.Zet had fared worst of all. Years of incarceration had left him deeply unwell, and the volatile young

Bella's POVOnce, the four Vale brothers had been celebrated as the Vale family's golden boys—powerful young executives who commanded attention wherever they went and seemed fiercely loyal to one another. Now, desperate to escape responsibility, they were turning on each other in the mud. Whatever dignity or refinement they had once possessed was gone.Adeline watched the spectacle without a trace of sympathy. Then, she turned beneath her umbrella and walked back through the gates. "Close them."The heavy iron gates slowly swung shut behind her, drowning out the brothers' furious shouting and desperate pleas. And with that, the four of them were shut out of the Vale family's world for good.Three months later, the verdict came down. Evander, Caspian, Stellan, and Zet Vale were convicted of embezzlement and large-scale corporate fraud. Each received a 20-year prison sentence. On the day they were sentenced, Adeline was on the top floor of Vale Group's headquarters, chairing the q

Bella's POVEvery word from Adeline struck exactly where it hurt, stripping away the last of their excuses. "You didn't come here because you want forgiveness. You came because you're desperate for someone to save you."Stellan closed his eyes in anguish. Zet simply lowered his head, defeated. He didn't even have the strength to argue anymore.Because Adeline was right about all of it.That was when I stepped out from behind her. Ronan followed, holding an umbrella over me as he took his place slightly behind my shoulder. The instant Evander saw me, desperation flashed across his face. He looked like a drowning man who had just spotted one last lifeline. "Mom! Please, just give us one more chance. We'll do anything. We'll spend the rest of our lives making this up to you."I looked at their tear-streaked faces and felt nothing."Do anything for me?" I said coolly. "You're not worth the trouble."I took the thick stack of documents from Ronan and threw them straight at Evander.

Bella's POVThe gates of the Vale residence remained firmly shut. Outside, Evander, Caspian, Stellan, and Zet had been kneeling in the rain for three straight hours. They were soaked to the bone. Their worn clothes clung to their bodies, their lips had gone pale from the cold, and none of them could stop shivering.Evander's hand was clenched around a faded pink jewelry box. Inside was the first bracelet he had ever bought for Adeline ten years ago. He had saved six months of allowance to afford it.Oliver stood beneath an umbrella on the other side of the iron gates, regarding the four men expressionlessly. "You should leave. Ms. Bella and Ms. Adeline have no desire to see any of you.""Mr. Bane, please." Caspian bowed his head desperately, splashing muddy water across his face. "We know we were wrong. We finally know what Marielle really is. She lied to us. She used us! We swear we'll never have anything to do with her again."Please just ask Adeline to come out and see us. Jus

Third-Person POV"Who do you think you're fooling, Zet Vale?" Marielle held a hand to her cheek, glaring at him with pure venom. "The four of you are broke! You can't even afford to buy me a decent makeup set anymore, so what gives you the right to expect me to stay and suffer with you?"Her expression twisted with resentment. "And whose fault is that? If you idiots hadn't gone after Bella Vale, would I be stuck living like this now?"The words stopped everyone cold.Evander and Caspian had arrived just in time to hear her, and both men stood frozen in the hallway.Evander stared at Marielle in disbelief. "Marielle… What are you talking about? You came to us crying. You told us Adeline was bullying you. That's why we stepped in. We were defending you."Marielle let out a scornful laugh. "And you believed me just because I said so? Did it ever occur to any of you to actually use your brains?"The color drained from Evander's face.Marielle wasn't finished. "I paid someone to pla

"Mr. Bennett, do we have the load-bearing results for the foundation in Sector B?""Yes, Ms. Vale," he replied immediately. "The calculations are complete. Everything falls within the parameters you projected."Adeline gave a small nod before turning her attention back to Evander. "You hear that?"Her voice was cool and utterly composed. "Vale Group didn't fall apart without you. If anything, we're running better than ever. That whole idea that you were 'irreplaceable'? That was nothing but a fantasy you invented to make yourselves feel better."Evander's face flushed crimson. He jabbed a finger at her. "Don't get so full of yourself, Adeline! Everything you have was handed to you by Mom!"Adeline took a step forward, closing the distance between them. Evander stood nearly a head taller, but somehow, she was the one who made him seem small."Wrong." She met h
