Chapter 4

Today marked the tenth anniversary of the alliance between the Silver Moon Pack and Azure Pack.

Both packs' Alphas, elders, and members had come together.

As the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, Wayne stepped forward to deliver his speech.

"I want to thank my one and only Luna, Nina.

"She is the most precious person to me in the Silver Moon Pack. My love for her has never wavered over the past ten years.

"Our bond was witnessed by the Moon Goddess and sworn before everyone present."

His words sounded sincere, but they made my skin crawl.

I pulled away.

My voice, which was cold and steady, echoed through the entire valley.

"Today, before the Moon Goddess and every member of both packs, I, Nina, speaking as both the heiress of the Azure Pack and the Luna of the Silver Moon Pack, hereby declare–

"I am formally severing my mate bond with you, Wayne."

The moment the words came out, the entire valley plunged into dead silence.

Wayne's expression darkened instantly. "Nina! Have you lost your mind?

"Don't make a scene like this! Whatever it is, we'll talk when we get home. Get down here right now!"

Home?

There was no home left between us.

I sneered and shook off his hand.

I then played the video I had recorded at the pack infirmary.

On the screen, the untouchable Alpha Wayne was kneeling humbly beside a hospital bed while carefully putting slippers on for Yvonne.

There were gasps from the crowd. The elders of the Silver Moon Pack looked horrified.

Faced with undeniable evidence displayed on the massive screen, Wayne abruptly shut it off and sighed heavily toward the crowd.

"Nina, I never imagined your jealousy would make you so twisted. I can't believe you'd fabricate evidence just to smear your own mate's reputation.

"The pack's conquests have never harmed pregnant she-wolves or pups. Yvonne is carrying a pup. As Alpha, is offering her basic protection and compassion wrong?" And you, Nina, are the Luna of the Silver Moon Pack, yet you cannot tolerate a homeless, pregnant she-wolf."

I looked at him calmly.

"Please cooperate, Wayne. Sever the mate bond right now."

The calmer I was, the more panicked he became.

"I won't allow it!

"You are my only wife! I refuse to sever the mate bond!

"As long as I don't agree, you'll never be able to sever the mate bond!"

Moonshade roared in fury. "He's imprisoning you! Let me out. Let me tear him apart!"

Just as Wayne reached for me and tried to drag me off the platform, the sound of someone shouting angrily came from the valley entrance.

"Wayne! Touch her and see what happens!"

The werewolves instinctively stepped aside to make way.

My dad, Alpha of the Azure Pack, strode forward and stepped onto the platform beside me.

He glanced at me with a pained look in his eyes. He then placed a crystal vial with a deep blue liquid that glowed into my hand.

"Nina, have you thought it through?

"Drink this, and you'll never suffer under him again, but you will lose every memory of him. The backlash may even hurt you."

I took the vial and looked at Wayne one last time.

Relief washed over me.

"I want to forget him. It's for the best."

Just as Wayne lunged forward and screamed for me to stop, I drank the magic potion in one gulp.

A destructive force exploded inside my body.

The mate bond between Wayne and me was ripped apart by sheer, brutal magic.

Blood seeped out from every pore on my body. Every bone felt as though it was being crushed inch by inch.

"Wayne, you're unworthy of being my mate. From this moment on, you are nothing more than a filthy stain in my life."

After finishing my sentence, I spat out a mouthful of blood. My vision turned dark, and I started collapsing backward.

Before losing consciousness completely, I could feel that any emotion and connection to Wayne was gone.

It felt wonderful, like a clean slate.
