Chapter 2

Author: Grace Heal
Before I could say anything, Dylan moved to teleport out. He was in such a rush that he crashed straight into my shoulder.

I heard a sharp crack in my shoulder.

I cried out as I was thrown into the wall, leaving a hole where I hit. When I looked down, my shoulder was bleeding.

Dylan was already gone.

I took off my shirt and pulled out the healing herbs. I pressed the herbs to my shoulder, then forced myself to set it in place. The pain was almost unbearable.

For 3 years, I had waited for this deadline, terrified he might just leave without a second thought.

But today, I finally understood he had never truly loved me.

It was always Eleanor.

Dylan didn’t come home that night.

The next day, I got a message from our vault management company. Dylan had taken my Golden Bloodroot Thistle from the vault.

My mother-wolf had bought at a secret herb auction years ago. She paid $1 million for it.

She told me about the Golden Bloodroot Thistle before she passed, “Keep it safe. If you ever get a wound that won’t heal, it will help. I won’t be able to be here of you anymore. Let it guard you instead.”

Dylan knew how important it was to me. And he still took it without a word.

I heard he had taken the herb to the healer’s place, so I drove over right away.

When I walked in, I saw Eleanor leaning against him.

Dylan looked annoyed seeing me, “What are you doing here?”

“You took my Golden Bloodroot Thistle. That was my mother-wolf’s herb. Do you even know there’s only one left in the whole world? Give it back to me.”

Then I noticed a bag he was holding, the herb inside was already crushed.

Dylan frowned.

“Eleanor’s mother-wolf is seriously ill. She needs this herb to survive. What’s the big deal? You don’t need it anyway.”

I looked down on my shoulder. My blouse was soaked with blood from my shoulder. I suddenly realized that it was the power-enhancing potion I made for Dylan that kept my shoulder from healing. This potion could enhance an Alpha’s attack power and make the injured werewolf more vulnerable.

After Dylan got together with me, he took this potion every day.

I never thought I would end up being hurt by him.

Dylan glanced at my shoulder, he looked a bit shocked, but he said nothing.

The healer came out and said, “Now the herb is ready, I will need the Alpha’s blood to help Eleanor’s mother-wolf recover.”

I knew this treatment. It needed the power of an Alpha’s blood to help the patient recover. It was risky.

“Dylan. This is too dangerous. If Eleanor’s mother-wolf doesn’t make it through, you’ll die too.”

“Did I ask for your opinion? This isn’t your call to make. I will do this for Eleanor.”

Eleanor looked at me as if she had won.

I watched him follow the healer into the room without a second thought.

Eleanor sat across from me.

She said, “I’m sorry for all the trouble. I didn’t expect he would still love me after all these years.”

“You know, on my birthday last year, he crossed the Dark Woods just to bring me a crystal bracelet. It had ‘D&E’ carved into it. How romantic is him?! He even put our initials together.”

The crystal bracelet?

Dylan had given me a crystal bracelet with those exact letters. I thought it stood for “Dylan and Ella”. But it was actually “Dylan and Eleanor”.

“I didn’t even look at it twice back then. I threw it off the balcony.” Eleanor added.

I kept that bracelet like a treasure.

“Another time, I had a fight with my boyfriend and called him. He came to my place right away, even though it was snowing. He stood outside all night, waiting for me. Can you believe it? I didn’t even let him in.”

I even felt she was mocking Dylan for doing these things for her.

That snowy night, Dylan came home after midnight, then slept with me for several times. I thought it was because he loved me. Now I knew it was just because he was so angry with her, and he took it out this way on me instead.

I checked my calendar.

Only 6 days left. It would be over and I would be free from all Dylan’s lies.

Eleanor wanted to say more, but I stood up. “Eleanor, I get it. You need him. He is all yours.”

Neither Dylan nor Eleanor would have nothing to do with me.

It was about time for me to actually live for myself.

No answer needed. The next day, Pamela told me Dylan had survived the stabbing but suffered severe organ damages and mental injury. His mother-wolf, Joanna, fainted again and they didn’t have enough money for the treatment.Joanna made countless calls to me and my company. She also wrote numerous letters begging me to visit her.I had a day off, so I went her healing place.Dylan wasn’t there. Joanna saw me and she fell to her knees. She cried and said, “I’m so sorry, Ella! I was blind to trust Eleanor. Please come back to us!”I shook my head and showed her the scar on my wrist.“Don’t you remember? You did this to me. You also said I was not good enough for Dylan, that I could only be his tool. Now I want to give those words back to you.”“It is all Eleanor’s fault! She ruined us!” she screamed.I asked, “Do you really think it is all her fault? Was Dylan not the one trusting her? You all knew what was happening, you just let it happen. I have paid for your treatment. I came because

He smiled at me and said, “Hello. I’m Pamela’s brother, James. I was a lawyer specializing in protecting women’s rights abroad and just returned home.”James held out his hand, I shook it.His large palm felt warm when he grasped mine.“I heard about your healing methods even overseas,” he continued. “You’ve helped so many werewolves. Especially your new therapy, it has truly changed how we address harm to she-wolves during pregnancy.”I looked at him.Someone actually noticed these small adjustments I made.I was so surprised.“Do you have an interest in herbalism and healing too, James?” I asked.“I just think herbs are beautiful, and the healing process is too,” he said. “They can make so many wounds recover again, though some never fully heal.”He was looking at a scar on my wrist, left by Dylan’s mother, Joanna.I subtly pulled my hand back.Over the next few months, James often asked me out for tea. When my company’s products faced negative news, he acted as our legal counsel to

He also tried to move back to my father-wolf's mansion.I had already changed all the locks. I had never treated him like this before.Dylan stared at me in shock, a red mark appearing on his cheek. My palm also hurt, but I didn’t regret it.My friend spoke up for me, but he thought we were lying and framing Eleanor? He was truly insane.Dylan’s eyes turned red and said, “How could you do this to me? Eleanor is different, she only has me now. Why can’t you just understand?”Pamela pulled out her cellphone, showing Dylan several photos.“She told you her parents passed away. That’s all a lie. Her parents have been living well abroad these years. She told you she was all alone. Also, a lie. She has hopped between Alphas of various packs. She stole all their assets, just like what she did to you. She only came back to you because those werewolves are after her. Your money is going to pay off her debts. Wake up!”Dylan held the phone, staring at Eleanor in shock. “This isn’t true.”Pamela said, “Check for yourself if it’s true. Stop making a fool of yourself here.”Dylan slowly tu

He wore the black tuxedo I had bought him.He had never worn the same tuxedo twice in public before. His financial troubles must be worse than I thought. He hadn’t noticed me yet. Next to him was Eleanor, in a pale blue dress. They both looked so proud. But when they saw me, they froze.Dylan suddenly shook off Eleanor’s arm and walked toward me.“Ella? What are you doing here?”I was confident. “Long time no see, Dylan. Why couldn’t I be here?”“I called you so many times. Why didn’t you answer? Are you still avoiding me?”I smiled, picking up a glass of champagne from a waiter’s tray.“Our mate bond ended months ago. Why would I avoid you? I just don’t want to see you anymore.”Eleanor hurried over, clinging to Dylan’s arm again.“Well, Ella. It is you! How did you get in here? This isn’t the place you should be. You don’t belong here, do you?”“I was invited. Not sure how you got in, though.”Eleanor smirked and said, “Let me guess. You have no money after leaving Dylan. So, you are

I knew he was talking about me, but I didn’t admit it.“Is that why you called?”He scoffed and said, “Forget it. I thought maybe this star healer was you, apparently, she’s pretty good. Guess I was overthinking. It can’t be you.”“Why are you calling me?”“My company is in trouble. The herbal potion production line I funded for Eleanor is now $1.2 billion in debt. The bank just told me they’re freezing our liquidity.”I had heard about this from the elders in Dylan’s pack. After I left, Eleanor kept bragging about her “unique talent” for herbal potion-making and pushed Dylan to launch her own brand.Dylan said yes without a second thought. But Eleanor’s so-called “talent” was just stolen formulas. She had no idea those formulas needed countless experiments and experience to get the ratios right. No wonder her potions tanked in the market. After that, investors wanted to pull out, and Dylan’s cash flow dried up.“I’m going to mortgage our assets to get through this. I need your signatu
