Chapter 4

Can I really forget?

Anne pov

“Ehn?” I found my lips wide open and my hands shaking on their own

“Yes…” he walked up to me and held my arm, staring deep into my eyes like he was looking at my soul

“Please…remembering that night would ruin our friendship and create awkward moments, I don't want that.” I nodded; maybe he was right, but what about me? What about how I feel? Can I really forget about last night when it was the best thing that ever happened to me?

“We need to, Anne…” he pressed on and I sighed tiredly

“You're right…we need to forget it all. Besides, tonight is your crowning night I would also want us to celebrate freely” he smiled at my words

“Thanks so much for understanding me” I pecked my forehead, obviously adding petrol to already burning flames. I couldn't stop myself from clinging to his side, he cleared his throat awkwardly making me come back to my senses

“I'll go prepare for tonight then…” I bowed and left the room.

It's crazy how hurt I feel right now. It felt as if a thousand nails were being driven into my skin and I couldn't hold back my tears as I reached the storage room.

“We're to forget everything that happened just like that? Doesn't he feel the slightest rapid heartbeat whenever I'm close to him because mine always threatened to explode, how can he just brush everything under the carpet just like that?

“Where's that filthy girl?!” Helena's voice came like a woman in labor, I quickly jumped to my feet and rushed out to answer her

“Helena…” she threw a polythene bag at me

“Prepare the cookies!” I blinked

“But my master asked me to take a day off…”

“Day off my foot, get your ass to work before I hit you!”

“She won't be working Helena…” a cold voice came from behind us totally making Helena freeze at the spot. Charles walked in coming to stand in front of Helena thereby making me disappear behind his huge body

“But Alpha prince…”

“Your opinion isn't needed Helena and last time I checked, she's my personal maid so she only attends to me” Helena was shaking in her boots

“Am I understood?” Charles asked

“Y…y…yes alpha Prince” she stammered

“Better…” he held my wrist and pulled me till we got to a large door

“You're staying here for the meantime and I'll be sending your clothes for tonight's event here, you're my special guest” he winked

“Really? This would be my first time attending a party like that” I jumped

“Sure, enjoy your day…” he smiled before leaving. I entered the magnificent room and I couldn't help but marvel…I've never entered this room before and now I get to stay here for a while…I'm so happy!

I was jumping happily when I realized something; what if he's just doing all this to apologize for last night? I'm not really worth all this, am I? I became sad again as my head hit the soft pillow.

****

I opened my eyes to the knock on my door, rushing there a maid stood with a gold box in her hands.

“What's this?” I asked in confusion

“The alpha Prince said to wear this tonight, he handpicked them himself” A smile formed at the corner of my lips as I took the box from her

“Thank you so much…” I wanted to close the door behind me but she stopped it with her feet, I looked at her to see her throwing daggers at me

“So you get to attend the party as an honored guest while we, your seniors, serve you? How magnificent, what is it you bribed the prince with? Is it your pussy cause I'm sure mine’s tastier than yours” she scowled bitterly at me

“I'm sorry about this…” she raised her palm

“Just shut up, you talking would add to my anger issues; I'm already mad as it is,” she hissed and walked off. Going to the bathroom, I took my bath and came to dress up but couldn't stop admiring the gown; it smelled of royalty and elegance…come to think of the fact, he handpicked this for me; could he have started developing feelings for me?

I picked up the glass shoe and it reminded me of the story of the omega wolf who danced with the prince in a pair of glass slippers…what was her name?

“Yes! Cinderella” I giggled.

The knock on my door made me quickly put on the shoe and rushed to see who it was…

“You look ravishing in this; I do have a great taste, right?” Charles smiled

“You sure do buddy…” he stretched out his palm

“I beg your majestic honor to be my date for tonight,” I giggled; he looked like a teenager in love. I placed my palm on his and he led me away. I could hear whispers from the maids, but I didn't care at this point; I was with the love of my life.

****

“Charles come up here!” The alpha king called, and Charles happily smiled; I kept clapping as he walked to the front of the crowd; the eldest chancellor collected the battle sword from Charles's father and placed it on Charles' palms, signifying that the deal had been signed…Charles is now the Alpha!

“Long live Alpha Charles!” the elder called

“Long live Alpha Charles!” We responded by bowing to him.

The smile on Charles's face was immeasurable; he'd waited for this day since we clocked 15, and now he's gotten it. I'm so happy for him.

Almost immediately, a bright white light shone directly at a girl who sat behind me, everyone could see the mate bond appear around her wrist and that of Charles, the room was filled with gasps, I couldn't contain my shock

“He got his mate immediately after he was crowned…”

“That's rare…”

“The moon goddess must be in support of his regime”

The crowd kept whispering; I looked at Charles, who was already walking towards her; he had the biggest smile ever. As he walked past me, I felt something snap within me and my heart became weak

“You're my mate…Gosh! You're so beautiful! Let's get married as soon as we can.” My jaw dropped at his words; he accepted her?!

I was thinking he was beginning to like me. I thought he finally recognized my feelings for him, but then it was just a way to make me forget last night?!

“Charles…” the name escaped my lips as Charles pulled the girl into a passionate kiss, and everyone cheered them; my eyes were filled with tears.

Is he not reciprocating my feelings because I'm of a lower class? I knew at that point, I couldn't swallow the humiliation anymore…I needed to do something, I needed to leave! I need to live in this place for somewhere better, somewhere I can discover myself.

“Goodbye, Charles.” I turned away from the scene and exited the palace. I didn't take anything with me, what could an orphan own except herself?

I walked into the woods, the air was eerie and creepy…I had nowhere to go but I kept walking until I felt electricity pass through my whole body. I looked around to notice a whole new place around me…

“Where am I?”

Chapter 25The Choice That Broke the MoonAnne POVThe room was silent enough to hear the King’s weakening breath. My heartbeat drummed painfully inside my chest as every wolf watched me. Some with hope, some with fear, all unaware of the weight in my throat, the knife-edge of destiny balanced inside my hands.I looked at Charles. At the man I once loved in silence. At the man I tried to forget and failed. At the man I might lose forever. His eyes never left mine, not once, not even when pain flickered behind his calm expression like lightning behind clouds. He was afraid. But he stood firm. For me.For his father. For this moment. My voice came out soft and trembling.“I will take the fourth path.”Gasps erupted around the chamber. The healers froze where they stood. The King’s eyes widened, filling with grief and gratitude at the same time.Charles stepped back as if the words had struck him physically.“No,” he whispered, almost breathless. “Anne, you said you would not sacrifice y

Chapter 24Before the Moon DecidesAnne POVI could not sleep. Not for a second. The moment the words I love you left my lips, everything inside me twisted into a storm that refused to rest. The night stretched endlessly ahead. Every hour felt like sand slipping through my fingers, faster than I could hold. The moon would reach its peak soon. And when it did, I would have to choose. The room they gave me was warm, the bed soft, the air faintly perfumed with herbs from the healer’s gardens. Yet I lay awake staring at the ceiling, counting my breaths the way doctors do to steady trembling hands. My heart had never listened to such logic. If I save the King, I risk losing Charles to death. If I save Charles, his father dies.If I save both, I lose my memories of him.Every laugh. Every pain. Every night. Every look. And the fourth option sounded like the cruelest blessing ever given. The room door creaked softly.I turned.Charles stood there without armor, without a title, only a man wi

Chapter 23A Choice With No EscapeAnne POVI gasped when my eyes flew open. The chamber burst back around me like a world rebuilt. The Alpha King lay breathing on the bed, his pulse faint but steady. Charles staggered beside me, one hand gripping the headboard to stay upright. Sweat clung to his forehead and shadows bruised the space beneath his eyes.We were back.Alive.But my heart felt like a torn page.I remembered every word the Seer spoke. Every path. Every price. Every thread I might have to cut.Charles looked at me the moment he regained balance. His voice was hoarse, stripped raw.“Do not choose that option. Do you hear me?”I swallowed hard, unable to answer. The pendant he gave me still rested in my palm, warm like living metal. Like his heartbeat made solid. The Alpha King opened his eyes weakly. “You saw her.”“Yes,” I whispered.“Did she give you the answer you needed?”A tremor ran through my body. “She gave four answers. None of them painless.”Charles’s fist tighte

Chapter 22The Fall Between Light and ShadowAnne POVFalling had no beginning or end. It felt like being pulled through water and air and fire all at once. There was no ground beneath me, no ceiling above me, nothing to grasp but Charles’s hand in mine. His grip was the only real thing in the collapsing world of smoke and broken magic. My heart battered my ribs. The rush of wind roared in my ears. I could not breathe. I could not think. Then everything stopped. Not slowly, but suddenly, violently, like crashing into silence.I opened my eyes.We were no longer inside the curse. We were somewhere deeper.A place neither light nor darkness claimed. It looked like a vast endless field of white mist stretching forever, like walking inside the heart of a dream. The world was too quiet. Too clean. Too still. My breath fogged the air even though it was not cold.Charles stood beside me, still holding my hand. His chest was rising fast, but his eyes were sharp, alert.“Do you know where we a

  • My Alpha, My Heart    The Thread that Binds

Chapter 21The Thread that BindsAnne POVNight came quietly, too quietly, like the world was holding its breath. The palace torches burned low, their flames swaying lazily in the dim corridors while wolves moved like shadows across stone. I could hear their soft footsteps, their quiet murmurs, the tension in every voice.Something was shifting in the air. A stirring. A warning.Charles stood at the balcony overlooking the courtyard. The moonlight traced his silhouette, sharp shoulders, strong stance, unmoving like a guardian carved from night. I waited at the doorway, unsure whether to approach or leave him with his thoughts. He must have sensed me, because he spoke without turning.“You are afraid.”I swallowed softly. “Should I lie?”“No,” he replied. “I prefer truth.”I walked forward, slow steps, the stone cold under my feet. The breeze brushed against my skin, carrying distant scents of wolves training below and the faint burning of herbs from the healer’s wing.“You could die,”

Chapter 20The Price of LightAnne POVSilence filled the Alpha King’s chamber. It spread slowly through the room like a dark cloud. Charles stared at me without breathing. His jaw tightened once, just once, but it was enough. I had seen that look before. The moment before a wolf either breaks or fights.I wished I was wrong. I wished I had read the curse wrong. But my body did not lie, and neither did my magic. The second heartbeat. The second soul. The connection was real. I could feel it even now, like a thread running through my veins and into his.Charles.His father’s life was tied to his.I swallowed hard. “Charles. If I push this curse any harder, if I tear it away from your father… something might happen to you.”His eyes did not soften. They sharpened instead. “Something like what?”“I do not know,” I whispered. “But the magic is not rooted in just one body. It is holding two. It is feeding between you. It feels like it will collapse if I pull too fast.”He stared at me for
