Chapter 4

I gave him a cold glare but didn't respond.

Aaron then said, "The subordinate packs are in turmoil because of this. You're the pack's Luna. I need your help this time."

"Do you really think I care about being Luna?" I countered.

"I know you care more about me, but the threats to our relationship have already been resolved. If the subordinate packs all rebel against us, the Moonlight pack will suffer greatly. Please help me clear up this mess," Aaron reasoned.

His affair with Jessica had already damaged his reputation among the subordinate packs. If he just let it be, the subordinate packs would start to rebel. The Moonlight pack would then be susceptible to attacks from other packs.

I looked at him mockingly. "How do you want to clear it up?"

He calmed down and gazed at me gently. "Just say we've already rejected each other. Once the crisis is over, we can announce that we're mates again."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Sure, then let's get on with the rejection now."

Aaron's expression stiffened for a moment. Then, he stated his refusal. "No, we can't dissolve our mate bond."

I interrupted him without hesitation. "You want to protect the pack and still keep your heirs. Only if we truly reject each other will the other packs have no excuse to use this against us, right?"

Aaron shot up in anger. "Shut up! I will never agree to it."

I just looked back at him in silence. He gradually calmed down.

Aaron stepped forward and tried to hug me, but I dodged him. He paused, looking hurt.

"Ruth, you should know that I love you. Trust me, please. Once this crisis is over, I'll give you an even grander wedding," Aaron said tiredly.

I nodded silently, agreeing to his proposal. As soon as he left, I immediately took out the potion I had hidden.

After learning of Aaron's betrayal, Dad asked Landon to bring me a witch's potion. Drinking it would allow me to break the mate bond.

The potion would cause pain of great magnitude to me, but I had to leave Aaron, who had completely betrayed me and our sacred bond.

As I drank the potion, it scorched my throat and set my insides on fire. Every inch of my body burned and itched immensely. My wolf howled in agony inside me.

I almost died from the pain of breaking the mate bond. There was no time to waste. I immediately forced myself to get up. I had to leave the Moonlight pack before Aaron sensed the bond had been broken.

That night, news of our mate bond being broken spread through every subordinate pack affiliated with the Moonlight pack.

Meanwhile, I was seated in the car heading toward the Snowfall pack.

I had left the report about my miscarriage at home. As the car drove further away from the Moonlight pack, I whispered inaudibly, "I hope you don't regret this, Aaron."

The night I left, Aaron returned to the pack with the pups because they had fallen ill after moving to an unfamiliar environment. The little ones insisted firmly on coming back.

Jessica had secretly contacted the pack elders and brought the pups back.

When the elders saw Aaron, they all gave him an earful. "We told you a long time ago that Ruth can't be the Luna. That she-wolf couldn't even give birth to heirs! How is she fit to be a Luna? Look. She's caused such a mess now.

"Since you have broken the mate bond with her, just go ahead and make Jessica your mate."

Aaron grew increasingly frustrated hearing the elders slander me. "There's no way I'll do that! Ruth agreed to help me get the pack through this crisis. Once we handle this, she will be reinstated as Luna."

"Alpha Aaron, the future of our pack lies with those two pups. We can't let Ruth come back and harm them again."

"Shut up! I am the Alpha. Ruth is the mate given to me by the Moon Goddess. Only she is worthy of being my Luna," Aaron stressed with a tone of finality.

As Jessica watched from the shadows, her expression grew darker by the minute.

Nine years had passed! She and Aaron's pups had already grown up, yet he still refused to let go of me.

Jessica couldn't understand how she fell short compared to me.
