LOGINChapter 6
**Jheanne's POV** When I looked at Hugo, his eyes had narrowed as he stared at me and Ubi. A secret little thrill of victory bloomed inside me at his reaction. "Hugo, Jana-meet my fiancé. Ubi," I said with a smile. Hugo's eyes narrowed even more. I was genuinely grateful Ubi was here. Because of him, I'd been able to face them today. I slipped my arm through his and pressed my body against his while lifting my chin and looking at them both with pride. My former best friend looked at me with open hostility. So what? Tsk. I turned to Ubi. He was quiet, staring off into space again. I rested my head on his shoulder and deliberately softened my voice. "Baby, can we go? I'm hungry," I said sweetly. He looked at me and nodded. "Okay." "Goodbye, guys!" I chirped. Hugo looked like he wanted to say something, but Ubi was already pulling me out of the building. Good. I couldn't stand being around those two demons any longer. Once we got outside, we headed straight for my car. The moment we got in, silence settled between us. And then I remembered the kiss. Dear God. First I brought him to my condo. Now I'd kissed him too. Everything was happening so fast. But wait... I didn't feel any regret at all. I'd actually liked it. Ubi was the first man who had ever kissed me. I glanced at him carefully. And only then did I realize he was already looking at me. "Ubi-" "Sorry." I bit my lower lip at that. Why was he apologizing? Because he kissed me? I smiled at him. "No problem, Ubi. I'm actually thankful you came when you did. Because if you hadn't, I probably would've just stood there crying in front of those two. But because you were there, at least I got a little revenge." I even laughed, remembering Hugo's face. "Did you see his reaction? He couldn't believe I already had a fiancé, right?" I said, laughing. But my laugh slowly turned into a sob. No matter what I did, it still hurt. Maybe that was just how heartbreak worked. The pain someone you loved caused you didn't just disappear overnight. Yes, I loved Hugo. How could we have lasted eight years if I didn't? I was already twenty-eight. I'd grown older waiting for him to finally ask me to marry him. That was all I had ever wanted from him, and why I stayed all those years. I had so many suitors, but I never wanted anyone else because to me, Hugo was the man I wanted to spend my life with. So when he asked me to marry him, I was unbelievably happy. But the joy I felt that day was stolen from me just as quickly on our wedding day. "You're crying..." I blinked when Ubi reached over and wiped away my tears with his fingers. "Stop crying. He's not worth it." I smiled again at his English. There really was something mysterious about him. It was obvious he was used to speaking it. "Ubi?" "Hmm?" I sat up straighter and looked him in the eyes. "What's your full name? And where do you live?" I asked. He looked off into space, thinking hard. His brow furrowed, and he seemed unable to come up with an answer. "Don't you remember anything, Ubi?" I asked softly, beginning to understand what his reaction meant. He shook his head. "No. I-I don't know... who I am." I sighed. I felt sorry for him. And I couldn't stop wondering what had happened to him. It was impossible that he wouldn't know his own name-unless he'd lost his memory. I shook my head. My imagination was running wild again. "Forget what I asked, Ubi. Maybe one morning you'll wake up and suddenly remember who you really are. Where you came from. Come on, let's go. We're going to the mall," I said with a smile, patting his arm. Then I started the car and drove us there. When we arrived, I got out happily and opened the door for him. "Come on, Ubi." He nodded and got out too. I took his arm and led him inside. We walked around, ate at different places, watched a movie, and finally went shopping for clothes for him. "Here, Ubi, try this on!" I said, handing him the clothes I'd picked out. He looked almost overwhelmed trying to hold them all. "Go on, get in there," I said, pushing him toward the fitting room. I waited outside, sitting on a couch until he came out to show me each outfit. Almost everything I chose looked amazing on him. I couldn't stop gawking at every single look. He was seriously delicious. "Do they all look okay?" he asked, checking himself in the mirror. I was still staring at him open-mouthed. When he looked at me, I quickly shut my mouth. "More than okay!" I said. He just nodded. After we finished buying clothes, we went to the underwear section. I swallowed when I saw all the different styles of men's underwear on display. I had no idea what kind he preferred, so I let him pick for himself. "Do you really think that'll fit you?" I asked, raising a brow when he picked up a medium. I had seen what he was working with. There was no way medium was going to happen. "I don't know," he said. I sighed. I took the underwear from him and replaced it. "Do you know what size you should be wearing, Ubi?" He shook his head. "Extra large, Ubi. Because your thing is huge!" I said a little too loudly. He grimaced. A few salesladies nearby laughed. I grabbed him and dragged him to the cashier. After paying for everything, we were about to leave the mall when I noticed an older housemaid staring at Ubi. She looked like she wanted to approach him but couldn't decide whether to. I studied the woman for a second before tugging Ubi toward the car. "Come on, Ubi," I said. And I led him away. **Someone's POV** "I'm telling you the truth, Ma'am Myra! The man I saw really looked like Sir Carlos!" Ma'am Myra gave me a dismissive look. She clearly didn't believe me. She was busy with the papers spread out in front of her. "You're the one who said he only looked like Carlos, didn't you? And you just told me his name wasn't Carlos either. So could you please stop adding to my stress, Yaya? I'm exhausted. I want to rest. You can go now." I sighed at what Ma'am said. Maybe she was right. Maybe the man I saw only resembled Sir Carlos. His hair had been long, while Sir Carlos's was always short. Maybe I was just mistaken. "All right, Ma'am. I'm sorry." She nodded, and I quietly left the room. Maybe I really had just imagined it. —**Hugo's POV**"Fuck it!" I snarled, clenching my fists. "I'll get back at them. I'll get ba-""Shut the fuck up, Hugo!" Jana screamed in my face. She pressed the alcohol-soaked cotton harder against the bruises I'd gotten from Jheanne's man.And she was crying while doing it.Damn it.I let out a harsh breath and turned my face away from her, looking instead toward the cottage door."What the hell were you even doing there, Hugo?" she demanded. "You told me you were just going to the hotel to get the vibrator. So why did you end up in their cottage? And don't you dare lie to me, because I saw you run out of there!"I sniffed and winced because she was pressing the cotton even harder now.Why did I have to run into her earlier? Now I actually had to come up with an explanation. This woman was a pain in my ass too. Always trailing after me. Annoying as hell."I already told you-the guy is jealous of me, that's why he beat me up! Don't you believe me?" I snapped. When she pressed the al
**Jheanne's POV**I squeezed my eyes shut and prayed Hugo wouldn't go through with whatever he intended to do.I didn't have the strength to fight him anymore, and it wouldn't have mattered if I did. He was stronger than me.With my eyes shut tight, only one name came to mind.Ubi.And then someone yanked Hugo off me."You idiot!"An enraged voice filled the whole room.My eyes flew open as I searched for the owner of that voice."Ubi!" I screamed. It felt like something lodged in my chest had suddenly been ripped free when I saw him.He was my savior. My angel. He had one hand locked around Hugo's throat. He was furious. And from the look on his face, I didn't think he'd hesitate to snap Hugo's neck."She's mine!" Hugo shouted.Smoke practically came out of my ears at that. The shameless bastard had the nerve to say *she's mine* after abandoning me, cheating on me with my best friend, and almost assaulting me?"Break his face, Ubi!" I shouted in my rage. And then I instantly regrette
**Jheanne's POV**I was lying on the shore, letting the water wash over my legs while I waited for Ubi to come out. He'd gone to change earlier because he didn't want to swim in the sea. Of course, I refused to swim alone, so I kept pestering him until he gave in.I lay there staring up at the sky, one arm tucked under my head like a pillow. The sun wasn't high yet-it was only six in the morning. That was one of the reasons Ubi had wanted to stay in bed instead of swimming.I smiled when I remembered the way he'd been pouting earlier."So cute," I murmured, still staring at the sky.And then, suddenly, the sky was replaced by Ubi's face. The whole world seemed to stop.My eyes locked onto his handsome features as he leaned over me upside down from my perspective. From where I lay, I could clearly see the shape of his face and the sharp line of his nose.I couldn't stop myself from biting my lower lip, especially when my eyes drifted over his muscular body.It felt like my mouth had go
Chapter 10**Jheanne's POV**Ubi and I were staying at one of the luxury hotels in Mactan, Cebu. The truth was, Hugo and I were supposed to spend our honeymoon here. But since that obviously didn't happen, it felt like a waste to let all the money my parents had spent on the trip go to nothing. They had paid for everything and arranged it all.It was their gift to me because I'd wanted to visit this place for such a long time but had never had the chance because of work.So when Mom and Dad told me they were paying for my honeymoon vacation with Hugo at Shangri-La Hotel in Mactan, Cebu, I'd been overjoyed.Only now, Hugo wasn't the one here with me.My fake fiancé was.Ubi.As soon as we arrived and had our bags brought up to the room, I immediately asked Ubi to come eat with me at Cowrie Cove, the seafood restaurant inside the hotel. We were seated at a beautiful table for two, waiting for our food. While we waited, I poured wine into our glasses."So good," I murmured after taking a
Chapter 9 **Jheanne's POV** Mom Anne picked us up from my condo. She was the one Ubi had opened the door to earlier. Apparently, she thought something bad was happening because she rushed over right away. Well, something 'was' about to happen between me and Ubi if Mom hadn't shown up. Good thing she did. Otherwise, that kiss would've happened. My God. Speaking of him, I glanced at Ubi. He was sitting beside Dad, quietly eating. That was the thing about him. He was a beggar, but the way he carried himself was incredibly refined. I couldn't stop looking at him. I was enjoying the view far too much. "Hija, didn't you like what I cooked?" Mom asked. My eyes immediately shifted to her. "You won't get full just by staring like that, sweetheart," Dad added meaningfully. I bit my lower lip at his tone and felt both cheeks heat up because all three of them were looking at me now. I cleared my throat and flashed my brightest smile. I looked at Mom first. "The food is delicious
Chapter 8**Jheanne's POV**I didn't know why, but the atmosphere felt weird now.Too quiet.Ever since Ubi and I came back from going out and found Hugo waiting outside my unit, things had been strange between us.Now we were both in my condo, not speaking. He was sitting on the sofa watching TV, and I was at the dining table staring into space.I had tried talking to him earlier, but he wouldn't answer. He had retreated into that private little world of his again, and I didn't want to bother him. Then my phone started ringing. It was in the living room, on the coffee table in front of him.I was about to go get it myself, but suddenly Ubi was standing in the doorway to the dining area, holding my phone. He handed it to me.I smiled as I took it."T-Thanks, Ubi..."Why was I stuttering? He didn't say a word.He simply turned around and went back to his seat.I sighed. What was his problem? Why had he suddenly become so cold?My attention shifted to the phone, which was still ringing.
