LOGINChapter 7
**Hugo's POV** "Shit!" I hurled my laptop across the room in frustration. I couldn't focus because of what had happened earlier. How dare he kiss Jheanne? "Argh!" I dragged both hands down my face. I'd waited so long to kiss those lips, only for someone else to get there first? That man was the one enjoying what should have been mine? I tried searching for him online but found nothing. Who the hell was he? There was something strange about that guy. Something off. I wanted to know more about him, but I had almost nothing to go on. I didn't even know his full name. "Ubi? What the fuck kind of name is that?" I grabbed my beer from the table and took a long swig. I couldn't stop being irritated. I didn't think I was jealous. I just couldn't accept the fact that after I ran out on our wedding, she somehow got herself a fiancé immediately. That fast? I knew Jheanne. She didn't trust men easily, especially strangers. And in the entire eight years we were together, I was the only man in her life. So how the hell did she suddenly have a fiancé? Where did that guy even come from? "Aha. Maybe... they're pretending?" A grin spread across my face. Maybe that was it. Maybe the two of them were just putting on an act. But for what? To make me think she'd replaced me just as quickly? I laughed at the thought. But what if they weren't pretending? What if they were actually getting married? My fists clenched. "No. That can't happen... not before I get Jheanne." I smirked. The office door suddenly opened, and I turned sharply toward it. "Goddammit! Don't you knock?" I barked. But instead of answering, she looked around the room in shock. "What the fuck happened here, babe?" she asked. I sneered at Janna. Sometimes she really got on my nerves. Too loud. Too dramatic. But I liked her. That was why I replaced Jheanne with her. She walked toward me, and I bit my lip when her full breasts swayed with every step. She came close and wrapped her arms around me. "What happened? Are you okay? Is this about earlier?" she asked. I shook my head immediately. She couldn't know about that. "No. Just stressed from work. Maybe I'm just lacking your affection," I said, pulling her by the waist and pressing her body against mine. I kissed along her neck. But she pulled away and looked me straight in the eye. "What did you feel when you saw them kissing earlier?" I shrugged. I had no idea why she was asking. Maybe she wanted reassurance that I no longer felt anything for her former friend. "I felt nothing, babe. Why?" I asked. "Just making sure. So... you weren't jealous?" I laughed. "Babe, I'm never going to be jealous of them. If anything, they should be jealous of us." I pulled her close again and kissed her deeply this time. I wasn't jealous. So why the hell had I been so enraged when that man kissed Jheanne? I shoved the thought aside and focused on devouring Janna's mouth instead. After what happened between us in my office, she left. She went back to work in the same building. We worked for the same company, after all. She even cleaned up the mess in my office before she went. "Babe, I need to go somewhere," I murmured near her ear. She was busy with some papers and looked up at me, frowning. "Where are you going? Should I come with you?" "No. I'm fine. I just need to visit someone. After that, I'm heading back to my condo." "Okay. Take care," she said. I nodded and left. The second I got outside, I went straight to my car and drove to where I wanted to go. The condominium building owned by the Estofa family. When I got there and found Jheanne's unit, I knocked over and over without hesitation. No one answered. I sighed. Maybe no one was home. I turned, about to leave, when they appeared at the far end of the hallway-walking hand in hand and laughing. The moment they saw me, they both paused. Only for a second. Then they kept walking until they were just a few feet away. "What are you doing here?" Jheanne asked coldly. I smirked, glancing pointedly at their joined hands. "I came to check on you." "Check on me? Ha! Are you okay, Hugo? I'm fine. Why? Do you care about me?" she asked with a laugh. "I just thought maybe you'd lost your mind, so I came to see for myself," I replied with a grin. Her expression changed instantly. Anger replaced whatever had been there before. She raised her hand like she was about to slap me, but I caught her wrist. "Bastard! My mind will never break because of someone like you! You're not a loss!" she shouted. My grip tightened around her wrist. "Ow... let go of me!" she said. But I only held on tighter. "Admit it. You're just pretending. He's not really your fiancé." "Why? Can't you accept it, huh? Hugo, accept the fact that I can replace you just as fast as you replaced me! So let go of me before I have my boyfriend drag you out of this building!" My jaw tightened. I released her hand roughly and then shoved her against the wall, pressing my face close to hers. "Are you sure?" I asked with a smirk. Her eyes widened, especially when my gaze dropped to her lips. She froze. Didn't answer. I smiled. "I think... you still love me, Jheanne." I leaned in, about to kiss her- But suddenly something heavy slammed into the side of my head. My hearing rang. My vision blurred. Jheanne shoved me away, and when I looked up, she was already in that man's arms. The guy looked furious, his fist still clenched, clearly ready to hit me again. Jheanne was the only one stopping him. "If you ever come near her again and pull that shit again, I won't hesitate to smash your face in," he said in a deadly voice. I couldn't answer. He took Jheanne by the arm and led her back into the unit. And I was left standing there, hand pressed to my ear, feeling like fireflies were exploding inside my skull from that punch.**Hugo's POV**"Fuck it!" I snarled, clenching my fists. "I'll get back at them. I'll get ba-""Shut the fuck up, Hugo!" Jana screamed in my face. She pressed the alcohol-soaked cotton harder against the bruises I'd gotten from Jheanne's man.And she was crying while doing it.Damn it.I let out a harsh breath and turned my face away from her, looking instead toward the cottage door."What the hell were you even doing there, Hugo?" she demanded. "You told me you were just going to the hotel to get the vibrator. So why did you end up in their cottage? And don't you dare lie to me, because I saw you run out of there!"I sniffed and winced because she was pressing the cotton even harder now.Why did I have to run into her earlier? Now I actually had to come up with an explanation. This woman was a pain in my ass too. Always trailing after me. Annoying as hell."I already told you-the guy is jealous of me, that's why he beat me up! Don't you believe me?" I snapped. When she pressed the al
**Jheanne's POV**I squeezed my eyes shut and prayed Hugo wouldn't go through with whatever he intended to do.I didn't have the strength to fight him anymore, and it wouldn't have mattered if I did. He was stronger than me.With my eyes shut tight, only one name came to mind.Ubi.And then someone yanked Hugo off me."You idiot!"An enraged voice filled the whole room.My eyes flew open as I searched for the owner of that voice."Ubi!" I screamed. It felt like something lodged in my chest had suddenly been ripped free when I saw him.He was my savior. My angel. He had one hand locked around Hugo's throat. He was furious. And from the look on his face, I didn't think he'd hesitate to snap Hugo's neck."She's mine!" Hugo shouted.Smoke practically came out of my ears at that. The shameless bastard had the nerve to say *she's mine* after abandoning me, cheating on me with my best friend, and almost assaulting me?"Break his face, Ubi!" I shouted in my rage. And then I instantly regrette
**Jheanne's POV**I was lying on the shore, letting the water wash over my legs while I waited for Ubi to come out. He'd gone to change earlier because he didn't want to swim in the sea. Of course, I refused to swim alone, so I kept pestering him until he gave in.I lay there staring up at the sky, one arm tucked under my head like a pillow. The sun wasn't high yet-it was only six in the morning. That was one of the reasons Ubi had wanted to stay in bed instead of swimming.I smiled when I remembered the way he'd been pouting earlier."So cute," I murmured, still staring at the sky.And then, suddenly, the sky was replaced by Ubi's face. The whole world seemed to stop.My eyes locked onto his handsome features as he leaned over me upside down from my perspective. From where I lay, I could clearly see the shape of his face and the sharp line of his nose.I couldn't stop myself from biting my lower lip, especially when my eyes drifted over his muscular body.It felt like my mouth had go
Chapter 10**Jheanne's POV**Ubi and I were staying at one of the luxury hotels in Mactan, Cebu. The truth was, Hugo and I were supposed to spend our honeymoon here. But since that obviously didn't happen, it felt like a waste to let all the money my parents had spent on the trip go to nothing. They had paid for everything and arranged it all.It was their gift to me because I'd wanted to visit this place for such a long time but had never had the chance because of work.So when Mom and Dad told me they were paying for my honeymoon vacation with Hugo at Shangri-La Hotel in Mactan, Cebu, I'd been overjoyed.Only now, Hugo wasn't the one here with me.My fake fiancé was.Ubi.As soon as we arrived and had our bags brought up to the room, I immediately asked Ubi to come eat with me at Cowrie Cove, the seafood restaurant inside the hotel. We were seated at a beautiful table for two, waiting for our food. While we waited, I poured wine into our glasses."So good," I murmured after taking a
Chapter 9 **Jheanne's POV** Mom Anne picked us up from my condo. She was the one Ubi had opened the door to earlier. Apparently, she thought something bad was happening because she rushed over right away. Well, something 'was' about to happen between me and Ubi if Mom hadn't shown up. Good thing she did. Otherwise, that kiss would've happened. My God. Speaking of him, I glanced at Ubi. He was sitting beside Dad, quietly eating. That was the thing about him. He was a beggar, but the way he carried himself was incredibly refined. I couldn't stop looking at him. I was enjoying the view far too much. "Hija, didn't you like what I cooked?" Mom asked. My eyes immediately shifted to her. "You won't get full just by staring like that, sweetheart," Dad added meaningfully. I bit my lower lip at his tone and felt both cheeks heat up because all three of them were looking at me now. I cleared my throat and flashed my brightest smile. I looked at Mom first. "The food is delicious
Chapter 8**Jheanne's POV**I didn't know why, but the atmosphere felt weird now.Too quiet.Ever since Ubi and I came back from going out and found Hugo waiting outside my unit, things had been strange between us.Now we were both in my condo, not speaking. He was sitting on the sofa watching TV, and I was at the dining table staring into space.I had tried talking to him earlier, but he wouldn't answer. He had retreated into that private little world of his again, and I didn't want to bother him. Then my phone started ringing. It was in the living room, on the coffee table in front of him.I was about to go get it myself, but suddenly Ubi was standing in the doorway to the dining area, holding my phone. He handed it to me.I smiled as I took it."T-Thanks, Ubi..."Why was I stuttering? He didn't say a word.He simply turned around and went back to his seat.I sighed. What was his problem? Why had he suddenly become so cold?My attention shifted to the phone, which was still ringing.
