Chapter 2

Author: Blinded By Love
I looked at the little charm Hudson kept on his desk, a stuffed bear that was not particularly well-made. I had laughingly asked him when he had started liking cutesy stuff like that.

Hudson had replied that it was a freebie he got with his coffee. I had not thought much of it at the time and even found the contrast kind of adorable.

Thinking back, the day Mia moved into our house, she had a stuffed bunny in the same style hanging from her suitcase. They were a matching set, and I had been too blind to see it.

Then there was last month's company team-building dinner. I had brought Mia along as my plus-one because I did not want her to feel lonely at home. During the meal, they served Cajun crawfish, which was my absolute favorite. Hudson put on gloves and peeled a whole bowl of them.

I was thrilled and ready to take the bowl when he casually pushed it in front of Mia instead.

"Mia hasn't had much of an appetite lately, and it's rare for her to want something spicy. Let her have this bowl first. I'll get more for you in a bit."

Everyone at the table praised him for being such a thoughtful man, taking such good care of even my best friend. Even though I felt a pang of jealousy, I forced myself to be understanding.

I even replied, "You're right. Mia's appetite has been pretty bad, so it's great when she actually wants to eat something."

I wanted to slap myself for being so stupid back then.

After thinking it through, I made my decision. Divorce was inevitable, but now was not the right time. To avoid tipping them off, I swallowed my disgust and came home right on schedule.

When I opened the door, the smell of home-cooked food hit me.

Hudson came out of the kitchen wearing an apron and carrying a pot of soup, while Mia sat at the dining table, sneaking a piece of meat.

"Honey, you're home! Go wash your hands and come eat. I made your favorite minestrone soup today."

Hudson's smile was warm and gentle. He kept putting food on Mia's plate while saying things like, "Mia, eat more. You're eating for two now. Don't worry about saving Charlotte's money, she makes plenty."

Mia shot him a flirtatious look, then turned to me. "Oh my gosh, Hudson is so good to me. Charlotte, you're not jealous, are you?"

Watching her act all innocent after getting what she wanted made me roll my eyes internally.

"Of course not," I said, smiling faintly.

I picked up a juicy piece of meat and dropped it into Mia's plate. "Eat up. You need to put on some weight for the baby."

That evening, I used work as an excuse to stay in the study. I did not come out until late into the night, moving as quietly as possible.

As I passed the guest room, I heard muffled voices inside. "Hudson… I want to…"

Mia's voice was sickeningly sweet. "The doctor said it's okay to have sex during the second trimester…"

"No." Hudson's voice was rough but firm. "What if it hurts the baby? Just hold on a little longer, okay?"

"But I want you so bad… It's been forever since you touched me… Be good now. For our baby's sake, okay? Just a few more months."

I stood outside the door, my whole body ice cold.

After a while, Hudson walked out looking flushed and frustrated.

My heart jumped, and I quickly slipped into the bedroom and got into bed. The next second, he walked in and wrapped his arms around me from behind.

His hands urgently slipped under my nightgown. "Honey… you're still awake?"

The people in the conference room gradually dispersed, leaving only me and Hudson, who was pinned to the ground by the police. He lifted his head to look at me and struggled desperately to crawl toward me."Charlotte! Honey! Listen to me!" He ignored the police trying to restrain him and crawled forward on his knees, his face covered in snot and tears."That child isn't mine! I was tricked! I'm a victim too!" He wiped his face, and his eyes actually showed a glimmer of hope."Since the child isn't mine, that means I didn't really cheat, right? I still love you, honey. Since there's no illegitimate child, let's not get divorced, okay? I'll make it up to you from now on! I'll go home right now and do whatever you want!"I looked at this man in front of me and found him utterly ridiculous.Did he think that just because there was no illegitimate child as hard evidence, his betrayal could be wiped clean?"Hudson, aren't you being a little too naive?" I asked. Then, I pulled out my p

I said, "Hudson, open your damn eyes for once and look carefully. This is the official police case filing receipt, along with the bank transfer records uncovered by the private investigator. Every single payment was transferred from Mia's account to these two."Hudson picked up the document. As he read the evidence, his face turned ashen. He rushed over to Mia and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her violently."Didn't you say you were kind? Then why did you try to ruin Charlotte's reputation?!"Mia was dizzy from being shaken. Seeing that everything was exposed, she stopped pretending altogether. "So what if I did it?!"She shoved Hudson away and pointed at me, screaming. "Charlotte had you all to herself for seven years. Why does she deserve that? I gave you a son! I'm the one who's done the most for the Darby family! A useless woman like her who can't even have a child should've been kicked out long ago. I did all this for you!"She turned and grabbed Hudson's sleeve desperately,

I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms, looking at Hudson. "You can understand? Hudson, are you even hearing yourself?"Hudson looked completely sincere as he said, "Honey, stop being stubborn. Even though you made a mistake, I don't want to destroy our family over this. Look, I made a mistake, and you made a mistake. We're even now, okay?"He pointed at the two so-called witnesses. "These two told me everything. You were the one messing around first. But I don't mind. As long as you cut off contact with them from now on and come back to me."I've already talked to Mia about it. She doesn't need any official status; she just wants the baby to have a home. The three of us… We'll make it work from now on. I promise I'll treat you and Mia equally."Mia coughed twice and spoke weakly, "That's right, Charlotte… I know you're jealous that I have a baby, so you went looking for someone else. I don't blame you. As long as you're willing to come back, we can still be best friends."The co

The moment I walked through the company doors, I could tell something was off. Colleagues who usually greeted me warmly were now avoiding eye contact and huddling together, whispering. When I looked their way, they immediately scattered and pretended nothing was happening.I frowned and walked into my office, where my assistant, Angel Ross, came in looking uncomfortable and hesitant to speak."Ms. Collins… You should check the company intranet forum and a few social media platforms…"My heart sank as I opened my computer. Several bolded exposé posts jumped out at me with shocking headlines.[Well-Known Female Executive's Messy Private Life, Will Do Anything to Get Ahead][Proof! She Falsely Accused Her Husband of Cheating When She's Been Having an Affair All Along!]The posts included several photos of me having dinner with male clients. They were clearly business meetings to discuss contracts, but in the photos, they looked intimate. There was even one misleading angle shot that m

Hudson stared at the divorce papers, looking completely shocked. "Charlotte, have you been under too much stress at work lately? Are you so exhausted you’re not thinking straight?"He added, "Mia just had a baby and needs someone to take care of her. Why are you making a scene at a time like this?"I looked at him coldly and stepped aside to avoid his hand reaching up to touch my head."Hudson, stop pretending. I didn't want to make a scene at the hospital, but do you really need me to spell it out for you? That little affair you've been having with Mia, did you really think I was blind?"Hudson's hand froze in mid-air, and his eyes started darting around nervously. "Honey, so you knew all along…"He sighed and lowered his voice, trying to use the most intimate tone to soften me up. "I just made a mistake. You know Mia had it rough abroad and came back with no one to rely on. That night was really just an accident. I had too much to drink, and seeing her cry so pitifully… But I sw

Before I knew it, the day of Mia's delivery arrived. Hudson had even calculated the timing and taken time off work in advance to stay home and wait, then rushed her to the hospital at the first sign of labor. When I got there, Hudson was pacing back and forth outside the delivery room, hands clasped together as he prayed nonstop. The moment he saw me, he immediately tried to hide how anxious he had been acting."Honey, Mia's inside. The doctor said she's having some complications with the delivery. She's your best friend, so I was really worried…"I walked up to him with a smile. "It's fine. After all, this is kind of a big moment for us too."Hudson wiped the sweat from his forehead, avoiding my eyes. "Yeah… The more support she has, the better."Just then, the delivery room door opened. A loud baby's cry cut through the awkward atmosphere.A nurse came out carrying a bundle and said, "Congratulations, the mother and baby are both safe. It's a boy, six pounds eight ounces."Hud
